The Crane family of Elizabethtown and Westfield, NJ descended from Stephen Crane, one of the original Elizabethtown Associators. Crane Genealogy believes Stephen was born about 1630 in England, and he died in 1710 in Elizabethtown, NJ. He may have been a son or a relative of Jasper Crane who settled in the New Haven Colony then Newark, NJ.
