| The Crane Family of Newark, NJ descended from Jasper Crane, an immigrant from England. Jasper originally settled in the New Haven Colony of CT, removed to nearby Branford, CT, then became one of the founding fathers and influential men of New Ark, NJ. He was friends with the Reverend Abraham Pierson, who upon hearing that the New Haven Colony was to be under English rule, moved his entire congregation in Branford to settled Newark. The Puritans of the time did not agree with the separation of Church and State. The Jasper Crane Family is often confused with the Stephen Crane Family of Elizabethtown, NJ. The descendants listed here are related to the Woodruff Families of Elizabethtown and Westfield, NJ. 1.
