East River Community Recreation and Education on the Water
1. East River C.R.E.W. will celebrate as the OpSail 2000 Tall Ships come down the East River on July 3rd from 11am to 2 pm north of the east 90th St. fireboathouse pier on the Bobby Wagner Walk esplanade. Please join us for free refreshments, interactive science fun for kids and a photography contest for the best East River picture of a Tall Ship. Volunteers who work 2 hours or more will receive a free t-shirt. For more information, contact vg33@columbia.edu.
2. Join us also for our 2nd annual Hook Row on July 30th, 2000. We will row from Red Hook, Brooklyn to Horn's Hook at E.90th St. beginning early in the morning. Free rowing at Horn's Hook will be available to all community members who are willing to sign a release and wear a life vest, no previous experience is required- you will be rowing with more experienced rowers who will help you. Children can also row if accompanied by a parent or guardian.
3. Our exhibition on Rowboats on the East and Harlem Rivers: Past, Present, & Future will be on display at HSBC Bank on 86th Street and 3rd Avenue from July 8th to the 29th. Our photography contest winners will also be features. Stop by and learn something about our local waterfront history.
4. We are also working to rebuild a boathouse and envrionmental learning center at 90th Street and East End after the pier is recreated. We need volunteers to help us gather signatures. Contact us to see how you can be a part of this effort.
Stay tuned for more information on our work and Thanks! |
