The Magick Circle
Practitioners of the magick arts have always used the
circle as thier place of spiritual and inner reflection. The circle
has become a universal symbol of totality, wholeness, and original
perfection, not to mention ancient wisdom. The circle has no
beginning and it has no end. When used in magick, the circle
creates and becomes a "neutral" zone where the witch can
practice their craft in a safe environment, where balance is needed.
When creating a circle you must remember that you are not creating
a cylinder with lines and edges, but you are creating a sphere of
power with half of the circle 'below' and the other half 'above'. This is
why you will commonly hear old-age practitioners say something
like, 'as above, so below'. The circle not only represents cyclic
unity and the everlasting strength of Nature, but the circle also
provides a boundary, or a limit in the creation of sacred space.
When the circle has been properly cast, it serves a
two-fold purpose:
One: it acts as a shield or a wall of protection to keep
negative energies out and retain 'good' ones.
Two: the circle serves as a meeting place for the
energies that the witch raises.
I must say that the circle is truly the perfection of Nature
at it's best.
