WAL-MART

Know someone who works at Wal-Mart? Direct them to http://www.walmartworkerslv.com/ so they can organize their store. They can also submit authorization cards on this website. And above all else, stop giving your money to Wal-Mart! They are one of the biggest anti-union employers in the world.

MT. OLIVE PICKLE CO.
(Also sold under the brand names Food Lion and Harris-Teeter)

In North Carolina, Mt. Olive Company CEO William Bryan refuses to bargain with FLOC. He says he is not responsible for the pay and conditions of farmworkers since they are employed by the farmers. But company contracts with farmers control every aspect of the crop, including price.

Why boycott Mt. Olive? Farmworkers are exempt from most of the major legislation affecting other workers, including the National Labor Relations Act of 1935. This act guarantees workers' protection when organizing. For example, workers in other industries can strike without fear of losing their jobs if conditions or wages are bad. Farmworkers are not granted this right. If they strike, they can be fired on the spot and replaced. For this reason, consumers must be proactive in supporting farmworkers. Boycotting will hopefully put enough pressure on Mt. Olive for them to enter into negotiations with farmers and farmworkers.

DIAMOND WALNUT COMPANY
Please visit www.unionlabel.org for the full story (and because it's a great site!)

Diamond workers, most of whom are women and minorities, struck in September 1991 when they could not reach accord on a contract in which they sought to recover just a small part of their 1985 standards. The growers were adamant in insisting on an average of only a 10-cent per hour increase, no seniority rights, and, most cynically, a health plan that would than wipe out the proposed increase.

To add insult to injury, strikers were forced to train their own permanent replacements.
