Vince Askey, Eagles Director
International Ambassador in Baseball

Vince Askey has been involved with the American Eagles since 1985. He first began as the Eagles' international tour coordinator through the auspices of Sports Promotions International and the USA/Australia Baseball Exchange. He organized the Eagles' many trips coached by Jack Hodges to Australia, Sweden, Holland, Denmark, and Hawaii. In 1988 Askey also assumed head coaching duites and lead the Eagles to a tournament championship at the 1988 International Youth Friendship Series in Sydney, Australia. In 1990 Askey became the Executive Director of the Eagles and still serves in that role today.

After a four-year collegiate playing career (& 1978 team captain) at the University of California at San Diego, Askey became the youngest head coach at the collegiate level at the age of 21, heading up the program at his Alma Mater - UCSD.

Before he turned 25 Askey had also had head coaching stints (as a player/coach) in Mexico, Sweden, and Australia. During two seasons in Sweden (1980 & 1982) Askey served as an assistant coach on both the Senior & Junior Swedish National Teams and played for the 1982 Swedish Senior National Team in international exhibition games.

In 1988 Vince Askey was one of the founders of the Australian Baseball League (the first national professional league in Australia) and of the Brisbane Bandits Baseball Club in Queensland. Askey served as the Bandits' Diretor of International Operations for 12 years and liaised with Major League Baseball. He coordinated and oversaw the affiliation arrangements with the San Diego Padres, New York Yankees, and Milwaukee Brewers. In addition, Askey assisted with all aspects of the Bandits' daily operations.

From 1991 to 1993 Askey also worked as a color commentator for national television broadcasts of baseball for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). He was slected every year for the ABC post-season broadcast team.

Since 1984 Vince Askey has assisted and managed over 1,000 baseball players with international tours and represented scores of players with individual placement on foreign teams. He has been recognized on two separate occasions in the United States of America Congressional Record for his contributions to international baseball.

In 2008 & 2009 worked as a consultant to the Australian Baseball Federation and Major League Baseball for the Australian national championship season (a.k.a. "The Claxton Shield").

In August of 2009 Askey looks forward to taking yet another American Eagles Baseball Team to compete in Australia. 2010 trips will most likely include Australia again, and possibly Sweden.
