The 2002 American Eagles Baseball Club commenced play in the Great Barrier Reef Baseball Tournament in Cairns, Queensland on Friday, August 2, 2002. The Eagles have two squads (Eagles RED & Eagles BLUE) competing.

AUGUST 1. THE EAGLE HAS LANDED! ALL WENT SMOOTHLY ON THE LONG TRAVELS TO CAIRNS AND THE TRAVELING PARTY OF 40 PEOPLE HAVE ARRIVED SAFE AND SOUND. THE WEATHER HAS BEEN BETTER THAN PERFECT, WITH BLUE SKIES AND TEMPERATURES IN THE HIGH 70'S. PRACTICE WAS HELD AT THE SITE OF THE BARRIER REEF TOURNAMENT, THE TRINITY BEACH SPORTS COMPLEX. EVERYONE WAS IN BY THE MIDNIGHT CURFEW AND ENJOYED THEIR FIRST NIGHT IN TROPICAL NORTH QUEENSLAND.

AUGUST 2. The Eagles Blue Team came from behind to beat the Queensland Cobras by a score of 8-7. Down 7-0, the Blue squad rallied for 6 runs in the 5th inning and scored twice in the 6th to win. Shane Stidman pitched the last two innings of shutout ball to keep the hopes alive. Clint Preisendorfer pitched in relief of starter Jordan Reich and struck out six batters in two innings. Chris Dorazio was 3 for 3 at the plate with a double, 2 singles and a walk. Joey Hetherington went 2 for 2.
The Eagles Red Team dropped their opener to the Cairns Cyclones by a score of 12-2. The 10-run mercy rule ended the game in the bottom of the 5th inning. The Cyclones hit three home runs to take command early.
AUGUST 3. The Eagles Red Team lost their first game of the day to the Townsville Steelers by the ten-run mercy rule, 12-0. Jake Kucheck got the only hit for the Eagles Red. Six fielding errors contributed to the Red side's woes.
The Eagles Blue team lost their morning game by a score of 2-1 to the mighty Cairns Cyclones. In a classic pitcher's duel, the Eagles Blue lefthander Joey Hetherington pitched a complete game and struck out 9 Cyclone batters in a valiant effort. Unfortunately, Carins' pitcher Greg Wicks got the better of the Blues with a complete game of his own, while allowing only 4 hits. Chris Dorazio was 2 for 4. Joey Hetherington and Peter Fanning contributed the only two other hits for the Eagles Blue.
The afternoon game pitted the two Eagles sides against each other, with the Eagles Red side winning 3-1. Winston Jaco tossed a complete game to keep the Red squad in contention for the tournament championship. On his 17th birthday, Jaco pitched brilliantly to limit the Eagles Red team to only 4 hits and while striking out 12 batters. Jaco was also 1 for 2 at the plate with a run scored.
AUGUST 4. The Eagles Blue team beat the Townsville Steelers 14-1 behind a pitching gem turned in by Eddie Cook. Cook tossed 9 K's at the Steelers and didn't walk a batter or allow an earned run. Scott Manteuffel was 3 for 4 with a homerun, double, single and 4 RBI's. Chris Dorazio was also 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI's.
The Eagles Red team beat the Queensland Cobras 4-1 to advance to the Championship game, Eddie Browne pitched a complete game with 11 K's and no walks. Chris Watson lead the offensive attack going 2 for 3.
The Blue squad won the third place game by beating the Cobras 9-2. Casey Dill pitched a complete game with 5 K's. The Blue team had 13 hits total. Eddie Cook and Andy Holt went 2 for 3. Theron Cueva, Brian Serocke, and Chris Dorazio were 2 for 4. Serocke had 2 doubles & 3 RBI's.
In the Championship Game the Eagles Red Team was once again beaten soundly by the Cairns Cyclones by a score of 13-4. Winston Jaco lead the team offensively, going 2 for 3.
Winston Jaco was awarded with the tournament Most Valuable Pitcher plaque for his effort to get the Red team into the finals.
Wade Dutton of the Queensland Cobras won the tournament Golden Glove award for his defensive play at SS, while hitting .625.
Scott Peace of the Cairns Cyclones won the best batting average for the tournament, hitting .714.
Masa Endo of the Cyclones was named the tournament MVP for his two pitching victories against the Eagles Red Team.

AUGUST 5. The Eagles enjoyed a realxing day with great weather on the Great Barrier Reef at Fitzroy Island.
AUGUST 6. The Eagles flew from Cairns to Brisbane. In a night game against the Queenlsand Junior State Team the Eagles Blue Team was beaten 20-8. The Eagles gave up 12 hits and made 6 errors. Brian Serocke was 4 for 4 with 2 doubles. Dorazio, Manteuffel, & Cueva were 1 for 2.
AUGUST 7. Morning sightseeing at a Koala-Kangaroo sanctuary. In a night game versus the Queensland Junior State Team the Eagles Red Team won 9-6. The Reds came back from a 2-run deficit in the 4th for a well-played victory. Chris Budelli started on the mound and was picked up by Mike Sebourn in relief, who was credited with the win. Budelli, Winston Jaco, & Adam Jacobs lead the offensive attack.

AUGUST 8. Coach transfer to the Gold Coast for the Major League Baseball Academy Tournament. After checking into the Courtyard Marriott in Surfers Paradise the Red squad dropped the first game of the tourney to the Australian Academy Team 6-3. Winston Jaco picked up the loss as the starting pitcher, but turned in two defensive gems playing right field, including a diving catch in foul territory. Chris Watson delivered some offensive punch with 2 hits in 3 at bats, and 2 RBI's.
In the evening game, the Blue side avenged their previous exhibition game loss to the Queensland Junior State Team by a scored of 9-8. Theron Cueva pitched a complete game with 11 K's and only 2 walks. Peter Fanning went 2 for 3 and scored 2 runs.
AUGUST 9. The two Eagles squads vied against each other for the second time on tour, with the Blue team winning 3-1. Eddie Cook pitched a 4-hitter against the Reds in 7 complete innings. Andy Holt went 2 for 3. Chris Dorazio and Brian Serocke each doubled.
AUGUST 10. The Eagles Red picked up their first tournament win on the Gold Coast by beating the Queensland "Maroons", 5-3. Eddie Browne picked up the win in a complete-game effort on the hill, striking out 8 batters and allowing 6 hits. Adam Jacobs was 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's and Winston Jaco went 2 for 2 with a double and 2 runs scored.
The Blue squad dropped their game to the Australian Academy Team 8-1. The Eagles Blue only had 2 hits, with Clint Preisendorfer going 1 for 2. In the losing effort, the Blues did turn two double plays representing the only highlights of the game for the Americans.
AUGUST 11. The Eagles Red Team lost in the Consolation Round for third place to the Queensland Maroons, 15-5. The Reds were only able to muster up 4 hits and committed 4 errors. Mike Sebourn, Eddie Browne, Tom Gray, and Adam Jacobs accounted for the only hits.
In the Championship Game, the Australian Academy Team showed their skills and won with an undefeated record by a score of 7-1 over the Eagles Blue. Joey Hetherington pitched a complete game for the second-place Eagles Blue Team, but picked up the loss allowing 7 runs on 7 hits, with 4 SO's and 5 BB's. Chris Dorazio, Brian Serocke (only Eagles RBI), and Scott Manteuffel garnered the only hits for the Eagles.
The Eagles Blue Team's Eddie Cook was awarded with the tournament Golden Arm Award for his efforts on the moung to keep the team in competition for the tournament championship.
2003 will see the Eagles vernturing once again to Australia in search of tournament Championships. Other 2003 trips will include Sweden and Cuba.
