2. Why A Sonic The Hedgehog FAQ?
--------------------
Sonic the Hedgehog is a brilliant game, and the first game off the Sega
Genesis System. Over time, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, S&K, 3D Blast, and more
came out, with the somewhat new release of Sonic Adventure. Well, I
figured everybody will write about the new games, so I will do an old favorite.
--------------------
3. Characters
--------------------
Sonic the Hedgehog:
You need to know this guy. He is the hero, and the guy you control. In
other words, if you move the controller, he moves. Amazing, isn't it?
Dr. Robotnik:
This guy is the bald, fat guy. He is Sonic's enemy. He captured all of
the Mobius inhabitants and turned them into his mindless workers.
Mobius Inhabitants:
These birdies, piglets, and penguins you free at the end of each zone.
--------------------
4. Items
--------------------
Rings:
These are basically what your life depends on. They are found all over
all of the zones except for the Final Zone. If you are attacked or fall
on spikes, you lose all your rings. If you get hit with no rings, you
lose 1 life.
Monitors:
These give you whatever is on the box. See below for a chart.
Ring: Ten rings
Sonic Head: 1 extra life
Boot: Power sneakers
Stars: Invincibility
Blue Circle: Shield
Lampposts:
These blue posts you pass and they turn red. When you die, you will
start at the last lamppost you touched. You will start with the time
you hit the post with, and 0 rings.
Springs:
These shoot you into the air.
Prison Eggs:
You free the Mobius inhabitants by jumping on the lever on top of these
at the end of each zone except for Scrap Brain Zone and Final Zone.
Levers:
You never know what these will do.
--------------------
5. Moves
--------------------
Run left and right: D-PAD left and right
Spin attack: A, B, or CLook up: D-PAD upCrouch/Look down: D-PAD down
Roll: D-PAD left or right, get going, and push down
--------------------
6. Green Hill Zone
--------------------
This is basically the tutorial level of the game. There are 3 acts in
each zone. At the end of act 3, there will be a boss, one of Robotnik's
fantastic creations. This is set in a valley of Mobius. Watch out for
spikes, which are mainly at the bottom of the zone floor.
--------------------
7. Marble Zone
--------------------
In this zone, you are in an ancient temple-like area. Fire is the main
hazard here. Push blocks by running into them. Watch out for the fire
chase in act 2. Don't get crushed by the chandeliers. Take the rare
invincibility monitors to your advantage. In act 3, there is a hidden
room that can screw you up nice, but there is a hidden block as well.
Good luck.
--------------------
8. Spring Yard Zone
--------------------
The very first carnival zone made! This fun zone is brilliantly done.
Watch out for the 2 Rollers in act 1 and act 2. The Crabmeats can cause
a problem in some of the block area. Be careful on the moving blocks.
Watch for the maceballs in the indoor areas. When the big green block
follows you, spring when necessary to get tons of rings. Otherwise,
keep running! Roll into certain places to unlock secret rooms with
monitors. Have fun.
--------------------
9. Labyrinth Zone
--------------------
The first underwater zone made in history. This zone is torture if you
don't have enough skill. If there is a spike popping up, do not go to
it full-on! Walk to it, walk back, and the Burrobot will pop up, but
you can get it back! Orbinauts are pain-in-the-butts. Watch out dearly
for them. When riding the escalators, you will see pig heads shooting
fire. Do not attack, you cannot harm them. White lance-spikes will
hurt you. Watch for levers and hit them quickly, because you can
survive about 30 seconds without air, even with invincibility. Take care.
--------------------
10. Star Light Zone
--------------------
My favorite zone in the game. It is also the easiest in my opinion. It
took me what, 4 minutes to complete this zone? Very simple, but be
careful. Bombs cannot be destroyed. Windmills are good for a boost,
but you cannot go against the draft. Take a break when you drop down a
shaft and the game rolls very, very fast. When there are catapults,
jump on the opposite side of the spike, and stay there! It will launch
you. You need good timing to do this well, because you need to do it
for the boss. The music is cool in this zone. Bon appetite.
--------------------
11. Scrap Brain Zone
--------------------
The mechanical zone. No more Mr. Nice Guy in this zone. Pure challenge
for beginners. The levers are tricky, watch out. Platforms that drop
and return are tricky, so run! When on the gears, push right to go
fast, while pushing left will slow it down. Jump to get off. Watch for
electrical faucets, slicing blades, the cup-with-the-mace-on-the-bottom-
half-of-it, and the flamethrowers. Ball Hogs are dangerous, jump the
bombs and hit the pig. In act 3, you are underwater. Jump the platform
to take the hard path, while stay on to take the easy path. Watch for
the spikes like in Labyrinth Zone. Then, at the end, spring up and go
to the Final Zone.
--------------------
12. The Final Zone
--------------------
This could have had a neat name, but Sega had to give it the bland
nameless "Final Zone". See the Final Boss section for this one.
--------------------
13. The Chaos Emeralds
--------------------
The Chaos Emeralds are the things that make the world go 'round. There
are 6 of them, and Dr. R. wants these bad. You get them in special stages.
-------------------
14. Special Stages
--------------------
There are 6 special stages, each one different for each emerald. In
order to get to any special stage, you need to get 50 rings at the end
of act 1 or 2 in any zone, except for Scrap Brain Zone and the Final
Zone. Jump in the giant ring. Jump farther for more points. You can
get from 10 points to 10,000 points per jump marker. In the special
stage, you can hit any one of the following spheres.Blue Blocks: They do nothing
Red/White Blocks: Jump off theseClear Red/White Blocks: Jump through these
Goal Blocks: Ends the special stage
Multicolor Blocks: Loosen their tension as you hit them.
Sonic Head Blocks: 1 Extra LifeR Blocks: Reverses direction of stage
Up Blocks: Makes speed go fasterDown Blocks: Makes speed go slower
Emerald: Ends stage
--------------------
15. Badniks
--------------------
Motobug: Hit them on the top or spin into them
Fishbot: Hit them on the side
Ball Hog: Hit them on the top
Orbinaut: Hit them after they attack
Jawz: Hit them on the top or bottom
Burrobot: Hit them on the top or back
Crabmeat: Hit them on the top before they attack
Bomb: Cannot be destroyed
Roller: Hit when not moving
--------------------
16. Bosses
--------------------
Green Hill Zone: This area has 2 platforms. Robotnik comes in what I
call the wrecking ball. Avoid the ball and hit the cockpit 8 times.
Marble Zone: This area has 2 land pieces. Robotnik comes in a
flamethrower/fireball dropper. Avoid the fire by jumping from platform
to platform and hit the cockpit 8 times.
Spring Yard Zone: This area has about 10 blocks. Robotnik is in a
spike-like machine. Avoid the spike, stay on the blocks, and hit the
cockpit 8 times before all 10 blocks are gone.
Labyrinth Zone: Robotnik is in just a cockpit. He has a maze full of
booby traps where you must stay above the water and have rings. No hits needed.
Star Light Zone: This area has 3 catapults. Robotnik is in the bomb
dropper. Use the catapult to hit Robotnik 8 times.
Scrap Brain Zone: No boss.
--------------------
17. Final Boss
--------------------
Robotnik is in 4 turbines. There are no rings here, so good luck! Stay
to the side, then if he is on your side, hit the turbine. Avoid the 4
homing electricity balls, then repeat to have 8 hits. Watch Robotnik
run, and you are finished with the game!
--------------------
18. Codes
--------------------
Bonus Points:
For extra bonus points, pass any zone in a certain amount of time. For
the best bonus, enter the Debug Mode code. The clock will freeze and
you'll always score a 50,000 point bonus!
