I know many of you reading this now is thinking "God how does this muppet know how to chip a dreamcast." All of this info I got from dc-uk issue 14. If you decide to do this then do it at your own risk.

STEP 1: Turn your Dreamcast over with the control ports facing away from you.

STEP 2: Unplug modem from bottom right hand corner (you will need a firm grip). Then unscrew the screw which holds the Dreamcast lid on. WARNING: AS SOON AS THE SCREW IS REMOVED YOUR WARRENTY IS INVALIDATED.

STEP 3: pull out the power board but be carefull because the capacitors hold a long static charge a long time after the Dreamcast has been switched off.

STEP 4: Next up is the laser assembly which sits on a suspension mounting above a shielded board. The laser is connected via a ribbon cable that is short run so you better use gloves.

STEP 5: The next component to be extracted is the joypad module. This is connected to the fan and the mother board. unclip the fan cable first, then the ribbon cable gets gently pulled out.

STEP 6: At the bottom of the dreamcast casing is the heavy shield which protects the motherboard from grease electrostatic charges etc. Gently lift the shield up.

STEP 7: you then need to look at the motherboard carefully, find the graphics chip and solder a self boot chip to it.

STEP 8: Carefully put every thing back 2gether.
