| Total Entrants: 137 Finalists: 8 Winner: Jackie Chun (Musten Roshi) Runner-up: Goku The 21st Tenkaichi Budoukai takes place about three months after Goku thwarts Lord Pilaf's plans for world domination. The 8 finalists were decided by an eight block preliminary battle round. Each block consisted of approximately 17 fighters. A total of 129 preliminary matches took place. The preliminary rounds were held in a room concealed from the Tenkaichi Budoukai spectators. The 8 finalists fought in an open square in the center of a small stadium. In the final round, after a long and furious battle in which Goku even transforms to his Ozouru state, Jackie Chun (Musten Roshie) nearly loses the battle. After both being knocked out of the ring, Goku stares at the full moon while held in place by Jackie Chun's electrical attack. Goku transforms into an Ozouru, but disaster is quickly averted when Jackie fires a Kamehameha, destroying the moon. As the match continues, the fighters are dead even. Near the end of the fight, both fighters exchange jump kicks and knock each other out. Neither fighter is able to stand after the ten second time limit, so it is decided that whoever can stand up completely, smile, and say "I guess I win" will be declared the winner. After nearly succeeding, Goku falls back to the ground, and Jackie claims the win.Total Entrants: 182 Finalists: 8 Winner: Tenshinhan Runner-up: Goku The 22nd Tenkaichi Budoukai takes place about four years after the beginning of Dragonball. This time, the tournament attracts a very large crowd as the previous years tournament was extremely exciting. The 8 finalists were decided by an eight block preliminary battle round. Each block consisted of 23 approximately fighters. A total of about 174 preliminary matches took place. The preliminary rounds were held in a room concealed from the Tenkaichi Budoukai spectators. The 8 finalists fought in an open square in the center of a small stadium. During the battle with Tenshinhan, Jackie Chan throws the match by stepping out of the ring in order to allow Goku to face Tenshinhan. After knocking Tenshinhan out in midair, Goku attempts to slow his fall using his last ounce of energy in a Kamehameha. Unfortunately, a truck hits Goku as he falls, speeding his decent just enough so he hits the ground only an instant ahead of Tenshinhan, causing Tenshinhan to win the tournament. |
