The mighty djinn Boo has awakened from his aeons-old slumber! As Boo's reign of terror begins, even the mad wizard Bobbidi and his allies question whether such an uncontrollable being should have been set free. With all the universe's greatest champions dead, petrified, or beaten into unconsciousness, only one hero remains to put up a fight...Vegeta. Will he win...or will Boo be free to turn the entire population into sweets and gobble them up?" -Back of Volume description.
I purchased it yesterday and I enjoyed it. However, fans should note that Viz chose to change "Majin Buu" to "Boo the Djinn". To break this down for you... (thanks to Julain from DaizenshuuEX for explaining this in the latest Podcast)
"Ma' basically means magic, demonic, or magic & demonic.
"Jin" means "person" or "people".
"Boo" or "Buu" are just two different spellings of his name.
So you get "Majin Boo" or "Magical evil person Boo" or something of that variation. This name is used in the original Manga, Japanese Anime, and even the FUNImation dub.
Now..."Djinn" is not a Japanese term, but actually an Arabic word. It means something like "Free wandering magical spirit". Much like "Majin" these both suit the character well.
The problem comes in with the "M" on Bobbidi's henchmen and Boo's belt. One assumes it is there to connect with "Majin" (though I heard some jazz about Bobbidi's original name pronounciation starting with an M?) and since "Majin" has been used for every other version, the only explanation is that Viz...changed it completely for no reason.
But, if this isn't a problem for you, much like me (for the time being) then pick up this excellent product from Viz and give it a read. It's the best and only legal English translation you will find!
