Name: Tsukasa Sex: Male ( In The World) Female (In Real Life) Eye Color: Grey/Blue Hair Color: Whitesh-Grey Weapon: Wavemaster Description: Tsukasa is the central character in the story of .hack//SIGN. Unlike other players, Tsukasa is unable to log out of The World. He is even unable to reset his computer. Tsukasa becomes stuck in The World and almost becomes a part of it himself - he has the ability to smell perfume and to feel pain. As a result of his ability to feel pain in particular, Tsukasa rarely fights. Rather, he chooses to avoid fights (and thus, most other characters as well). It takes a while for Tsukasa to trust other players. It takes him quite a lot of convincing to become friendly with Bear and Mimiru. Despite Tsukasa's apparent weakness when it comes to pain and such, he has apparently received protection from a "Guardian". The Guardian is incredibly powerful and seems to appear whenever Tsukasa is threatened. Perhaps due to Tsukasa's own status in The World, his Guardian performs unusual damage to those that it attacks. Rather than simply having the player's character die, the player himself actually receives injury in the real world. Sometimes the injury is as light as a temporary headache or memory loss. But sometimes players in real life are actually knocked into a coma from being attacked in The World. Tsukasa appears to have no memory of his past. The World seems to interfere with his personal emotions and memories. However, he appears to have a unique relationship with two characters; Maha (a "cat" player) and Aura (a white girl who's face cannot be identified). Maha usually appears when Tsukasa is near Aura. Aura floats above a bed and never talks to Tsukasa directly. When Tsukasa touches her, he has flashbacks from his past. He also experiences odd dreams/delusions about himself and Aura. Name: Mimiru Sex: Female Eye Color: Green/Brown Hair Color: Brown Weapon: Heavy Blade Description: Mimiru is a bright and bubbly player in The World. Her cheerful nature is what ultimately causes Tsukasa to be her friend, as well as Bear. Initially, she is unable to convince Tsukasa to go with her and discover some important truths about The World. And despite Tsukasa's frequent rudeness and dismissive attitude toward her, Mimiru does not give up. Mimiru's bright attitude and determination pay off in the end; Tsukasa warms to her and eventually learns to trust her. Mimiru also seems eager to interact with others, unlike Tsukasa. But despite her friendly nature, she is certainly not a pushover. She frequently reminds Tsukasa of his rudeness and she occasionally scolds Tsukasa for his dismissive and unproductive attitude. Mimiru has a great deal of energy and constantly seems ready to go on another adventure. Her energetic nature occasionally gets her into trouble though (especially when she meets another player who is much less experienced - and goes into several battles alongside her). Throughout this anime, there are often some depressing and insightful moments. Mimiru is a valuable character in the sense that her bright personality (and her naiveté to some extent) provides an important offset to the darker tones that underlie the primary story. Mimiru is essentially a comic relief in some situations, although this never compromises the courageous and serious side of her character. In the real world, Mimiru is a 15-year-old girl in senior high school. Her real-life work ethic and perfectionism are reflected in her virtual personality. Name: Subaru Sex: Female Eye Color: Brown Hair Color: Terquice Weapon: Heavy Axe Description: Subaru is essentially a system Administrator. She is the head of the Scarlet Knights, which are the "Moderators" of The World. Obviously, this role is incredibly important and one that she takes very seriously. She seems to be a very independent and thoughtful individual who rarely has time for fun. She takes her role in The World seriously and makes strong efforts to understand the situation surrounding Tsukasa. Subaru also appears to have some kind of personal relationship with Krim. Of course, it's hard to tell exactly what the relationship is within The World itself, but the implication is that the pair are (or were) a couple in real life. Name: Bear Sex: Male Eye Color: Brown Hair Color: Brown Weapon: Blademaster Description: Bear is one of the biggest stabilizing forces in .hack//SIGN. He is a 40-year-old novelist in real life and his personality inevitably transfers over to his online personality. Bear's superior knowledge and experience are often useful in The World. His knowledge allows him to solve more complex puzzles and his experience is useful in terms of deciphering the meaning of various events. Bear often reflects on the events of the day and seems to often talk in a very philosophical way. He has an eagerness to solve puzzles and understand The World, which is probably why he is so interested in Tsukasa's plight. Being a novelist, he already has a strong imagination and this quality seems to benefit him greatly in The World. In addition to his personal skills, Bear enjoys providing guidance to younger players and newbies. He tries hard to keep a cool head and despite his often serious nature, he is also capable of making jokes and seeing the lighter side of a situation. His age, combined with his unmatched experience makes him a kind of "big brother" to many characters, including both Mimiru and Tsukasa. Bear advises them when possible and seems to be genuinely interested in those around him. He comes across as a kind person who is always eager to lend a hand when needed. Name: BT Sex: Female Eye Color: Green/Yellow Hair Color: Blonde Weapon: Wavemaster Description: BT is a somewhat secretive character. Initially we see her alongside Bear. Apparently the pair were in some kind of team or battle group initially. But soon after, BT goes out on her own and has a couple of encounters/confrontations with Sora. BT also seems to build a relationship with Krim. She seems to be intent on finding the Key of the Twilight and ultimately unlocking the mysteries of The World. Even though the Key of the Twilight is essentially a myth, BT appears to be willing to search for it. Her motives for doing so are not entirely clear and generally speaking, she does seem to be a good character. However, BT seems to "join forces" with multiple characters during the series. Despite this, BT ultimately seems to have the strongest link to Bear. She and Bear often discuss The World and their ideas of what Tsukasa's circumstance means. There is also an implication that perhaps BT and Bear are romantically involved in real life (there is one scene that shows BT and Bear laying together in a forest, having a philosophical discussion of sorts). Name: Krim Sex: Male Eye Color: Brown Hair Color: BLue Weapon: Long Arm Description: Krim was formerly part of the Crimsion Knights. However, he seems to have quit at some point in the past (though it is unclear why). Krim seems to be a headstrong individual who is just as curious about the Key of the Twilight as BT is (which leads to various conversations between the pair). In addition, it is implied that Krim is/was involved romantically with Subaru in real life. Even though the pair seem to like each other, there is also a slight sense of unease whenever they meet. Krim is known as "The Red Lightning" and finds himself in some humorous situations throughout the series. He is a relatively carefree character who also appears to posses quite a high level. In other words, his online character is very well developed and powerful. Name: Sora Sex: Male Eye Color: Brown/Yellow Hair Color: Green Weapon: Twin Blade Description: Sora, like many of .hack//SIGN's characters, is incredibly odd. Throughout most of the series, Sora seems to be the only true "villain". He frequently chases down players in an effort to extract their "information" (which might include their address or something else). He is also known as a Player Killer, which makes him stand out from others in The World. Of course, The World is mostly about cooperative gameplay. And so, Sora's focus on killing fellow players is odd and tends to pit him against just about everyone. Sora has a sarcastic nature and is also incredibly arrogant. He seems to be interested only in his own personal goals and he constantly takes advantage of his high character level (which also seems to make him almost unbeatable for most players). Name: Silver Knight Sex: Male Eye Color: Red Hair Color: Wears A Helmet Weapon: Blademaster Description: Silver Knight is Subaru's loyal servant and seems to take everything very seriously. He is also absolutely devoted to the rules/laws of The World. In some cases, he advises Subaru of the rules and what actions might be appropriate for the Crimsion Knights. And often, Subaru's slightly softer nature ensures that Silver Knights hard-line stance is somewhat tempered. Early in the series, Silver Knight is struck down by Tsukasa's guardian. As a result, he suffers a short-term memory loss. However, this does not deter him from doing his job and ultimately he continues in his quest to enforce The World's rules under the leadership of Subaru. |
