SW Fan Gets Life
by Don Miles
The Star Wars community is in uproar today after one of its most revered members, Martin Thompson, woke up today and got a life.
"It happened kind of suddenly," the 27-year-old cashier said. "My mom called down to the basement, which is my room, and told me breakfast was ready. I got up and started to put on my C3PO t-shirt, and I just couldn't do it."
According to Thompson, his discovery of a life came as a real surprise, especially since the night before he had attended three screenings of Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace.
"A friend of mine is an usher at the Cineplex and he lets us in for free. I've seen Episode One at least thirty times thanks to old Lowie." The name Lowie, according to Thompson, is a nickname for Charles Robbins, who owns all of the Star Wars books in first edition hardcovers.
Thompson says he had felt "kind of weird" while attending the screenings, and he attributes that to the fact that a member of the opposite sex approached him while he was trying on tuxedos at the mall.
"My sister is getting married, and I'm in the wedding, so she made me get a haircut and try on a tux," Thompson said between bites of a foot long chili cheese coney. "A girl recognized me from Shop N Save and asked me if I ever came around Putt and Golf, where she works."
This unusual occurrence has never happened to Thompson before, according to Marla Thompson, his mother.
"I've never seen or heard a girl talk to him before," she said while folding Martin's underwear. "I don't know what he's going to do next, but he should probably clean up his room."
Thompson said after breakfast he went back down to the basement and listed all 243 of his Star Wars figures for sale on his Star Wars fan site, right below a message indicating he was shutting the site down.
Thompson's epiphany does not sit well with members of the Star Wars community.
"He's a traitor," said one member who wished to be identified by the name Rogue One. "I can't believe he would turn his back on us, right after I gave him my limited edition Star Wars pushpins. I think it has something to do with me beating him in that mock lightsaber duel."
Rogue One also said that Thompson's discovery has sent ripples all the way to the top.
"I just can't believe a fan would do this," says George Lucas, creator of Star Wars. "Without his contribution to the purchase of Star Wars memorabilia, I'll never be able to afford that ivory backscratcher."
