LETTER OF WELCOME TO A NEW-FOUND FAMILY
Dear cousins,
Have you ever wondered what was the origine of your Saltiel family name? Did you consider the possibility that you might have remote cousins in your country of origine? Maybe you have heard about the Shealtiel family network. Did you already know that our family network has now discovered more than 700 Saltiel, Shaltiel and Chaltiel families living in 26 countries?
Today I would like to share with you some of the interesting facts about our family and the family network. I would like you to know what the family network could mean to you. First let me tell you that the Shealtiel family network is a non-profit organization, run entirely by volunteering family members who hope to be able rediscover our history and strenghten family ties between us. We believe that all Saltiels, Shaltiels, Sealtiëls, Chaltiels, Scialtiels, Schaltiels, Saltels, and Saltellis are our family; we all originate from a Sephardic Jewish family who emigrated from Spain to Greece, Turkey, France, England and whose descendants now live all over the world.
We have had international family reunions in Amsterdam in 1994 and in Thessaloniki, Greece in 1997. At each reunion more than 150 family members came from all over the world. We got to know each other and learned more about the fascinating history of our family. The Shealtiel Gazette is the family publication where you can read about the history of the family, personal reminiscences of family members and ongoing projects in the family. One of these projects is the Open Door Exchange Program, where family members offer you hospitality during a visit to their country. Read more about the activities of the family network at our website http://maxpages.com/donadeli
Another of our family projects that I would like to invite you to participate is the Shealtiel Family Book. Each family has a personal page in this book where they introduce themselves to all the family. You can contribute to the family book by entering a description of your family online at http://maxpages.com/donadeli/familybook
The Shealtiel family tree now goes back to France, England and Greece in the 18th century, with more than 5000 names. If you wish, you can now receive the information who was your forebears, who are your distant cousins, and where they live. Another new project is the creation of the Shealtiel home page. You will find this informative and fascinating fascinating website at the URL http://www.shealtiel.org with lots of background information about the Shealtiel family. All information about your family is available for free, but if you want to join the family network and receive the Shealtiel Gazette twice a year, we charge a nominal fee to cover our expences. You are most welcome to contact the voluntary contact person for your area or email vibekeolsen@yahoo.com
Did you know???
...The Saltiels had their own family synagogue in Salonica (Thessaloniki) which was burned in the fire of 1917?
...This synagogue was nicknamed Figo Loco because of the wild fig tree in its courtyard, which grew in a hot spring and carried figs in the winter!?
...The oldest member of the Saltiel family (Han Bochor Yoseph Saltiel) reached the age of 140 years?
You can read about the situation of our family in Salonika early in this century! A member of our family has told his youth memories in the interview "Memories of Salonika". You will find this interview and a lot of information about our family at http://www.shealtiel.org/moresal.html We hope that the Shealtiel family network is of interest to you. You can find more information about the family network at http://maxpages.com/donadeli/structure. We are happy that we have been able to contact you and hope that we will be able to welcome you as a member of the family. Please reply to this letter to indicate your interest in the family network.
With my very best wishes,
Vibeke Sealtiël Olsen
