INFORMATION ABOUT THE STRUCTURE OF THE SHEALTIEL FAMILY NETWORK

ASSOCIATION DES FAMILLES SALTIEL
This association was founded in Paris on 2nd February 1998. The object of the association is to investigate the origine of the family: to establish the genealogy of people with the family name Saltiel, and determine the historical position of this family in social life. Another aim is to develop cultural activities and social contacts between members of the family. The association is situtuated with Michel Saltiel, email: saltielmi@aol.com. (Source: Trait d'Union 98/1, p. 7)

INTERIM COMITTEE
Since March 1998, the Shealtiel Family Network also has a interim coordinating comittee, which will assist the family network with its consilidation. The interim comittee consists of the following people: Rob Sealtiel (Israel), Miles Saltiel (England), Philippe Saltiel (France), Herman Bredl (Germany), Loukia Saltiel (Greece), Moni Saltiel (Israel), Lynette Grave (New Zealand), Francesca Carasso (South America), Moshe Shaltiel and Joseph Saltiel (USA). (Source: Trait d'Union 98/1, p. 6)

OUR PERIODICALS: THE SHEALTIEL GAZETTE AND ASOVRINDAR
The illuminated Shealtiel Gazette is published twice a year. The aim is to publish interesting articles about the genealogy and (oral) history of the Shealtiel Family, at a scholarly level, enabling us better to understand our own history, and to act as an international medium of communication between members of the family, to support the re-establishment of ties between us. The Figo Loco section is the forum for personal reminiscences, lighter stuff and creative writings by members of our family, giving all the opportunity to put their talents to display. The Asovrindar section is intended to be the forum for the exchange of family news, advice of forthcoming events of interest to members of the family, and reports of newly discovered members or branches of the family, as well for announcements by the GROup which operates for the organisation of co-operative endeavours. We hope to be able to add abstracts in French and Hebrew and maintain contact with organisations in the field of Sephardic Genealogy and History, like the Internet website of Jeff Malka and ETSI Genealogical Society. Non-subscribers to the Shealtiel Gazette will receive the free Asovrindar newsletter once a year.

YOUR PERSONAL FAMILY TREE
As we have compiled a family tree with more than 5000 names (Saltiels, Sealtiels, Shaltiels, Chaltiels and descendants of these families), we may be able to find the link between your family and almost any other S(he)altiel family in the world. We have found at least 30 different branches of the family, but we are working hard in combining all these branches into three or four different trees. Your personal family tree can give you the information who was your great-great-great-grandfather, and the people who were his descendants. Maybe you will discover that you have some first or second cousins whom you did not know yet! If the track of your ancestors was lost through rounds of emigration, the Shealtiel Family Network and your personal family tree give you the clues that will lead you back to your roots.

OPEN DOOR ARRANGEMENT
Many of our adolescent sons and daughters want to see the world, which can be of great value for their education and personal development. Many older people have an active life, for all that they have stopped their professional activities. Several of them want to travel and see the world, now when they have more time to realise themselves. Would you like to help by making a permanent Open Door arrangement and give the young people (and the not so young) in the family hospitality on their travels? The purpose is to give your S(he)altiel relatives overnight accommodation and hospitality, when they might visit your country, and show them those aspects of your domestic environment that could be of interest to them. One in ten of the members of the Family Network are participating in the family's hospitality exchang scheme.

Comments by family members: "I am very delighted to hear of your "Open Door" project and am writing to say that I am exited to participate. Please sign me up!" "I find the idea of exchanging visits in the family very exciting and would like to support it by opening my home to members of the family..."

THE GROUP
The GROup (Genealogy, Research and Outreach Group of the Shealtiel Family), was founded in 1998. The aim of the GROup is to gather the family members who are interested in our family history, and who would like to research and support family researches and local activities. The GROup has cooperated in compiling the family tree of all Saltiels of Salonika. We now have a family tree with more than 5000 names. We also cooperated during the discovery of the Brazilian branch of the descendants of Baron Von Saltiel. The report of our researches was published in the Shealtiel Gazette. New discoveries of the GROup will also be published at the website http://maxpages.com/donadeli. The GROup members who do not have access to the Internet will receive news through regular mail. The coordination and publication of the activities of the GROup takes place through the Asovrindar newsletter and at the website http://maxpages.com/donadeli. The future projects of the GROup:

GENEALOGY
*Find links between new found families and the Shealtiel family tree
*Discuss the possiblities for a reconstruction of the Salonika tree back
into the 18th and 19th centuries.

RESEARCH
*Continue the researches on the history of our family and share
our discoveries with each other.
*Publish articles about the history of our family in the Shealtiel Gazette

OUTREACH
*Find volunteers who will each make contact with 15-20 families in their local area
*More subscribers to our family publication the Shealtiel Gazette
*To establish regular contact with more members of the family

If you have decided that you would like to join the GROup,
Please send an email to vibekeolsen@yahoo.com and let me
know which projects you would like to help with.
