1: How should the Family Network operate in future?
A: Perhaps a structure of (regional/geographical) advisory boards, with one member designated to speak for that region. Interested participants could communicate via email, rather that extensive travel. Not that there is anything wrong with travel, but it can get expensive. I think if we used email more, there could be better communications.
B: It seems to me, if I understand the question, that the family network is working quite well...using both email and postal means for contacting family members.
C: I am not sure if I have to many ideas for this, but a nice idea might be some kind of open forum.
D: Personally, I like the Internet although I realize that not all family members do have access. As far as who handles the "meat" of the business, we must rely on volunteers. While Miles and Moshe would like help, I fear that many others would not have their dedication... I hope that I'm wrong.

2: Which (kind of) activities should the Family Network offer (you)?
A: The current activities like reunion and "Open Door" are great. To a certain extent, individuals should be creating their own activities. Through the reunions, Gazette and Open Door, invitations and introductions have been made. Individuals should now feel comfortable to writing to or visiting other family members. Any activities that serve to open up lines of communication between family members would be worthwhile.
B: If it were possible, I'd attend all family get-togethers
C: Reunions are nice, but I think they would get kind of old after a couple. History in general would be nice as well as people's personal stories of their part of their family history.
D: Perhaps in addition to world-wide reunions, we should have smaller ones within each geographic region. Expand the "Open Door" situation and each of us offer his/her expertise to family members, according to our own skills and abilities.

3: Would you pay $ 180 for three years membership of the Shealtiel Family Network, including the Shealtiel Gazette, your personal family tree, our "Open Door" offer fro travellers and our many other advantagesexclusively for all our family members...?
A: Yes.
B: Unfortunately, being on an extremely low "income", I am not able to financially contribute to membership. However, a cost of $180 per three years (I expect) is a very fair price for most.
C: I would be sceptical to do this, with 3 years of graduate school coming up.
D: $180 is not to much. To sell this though, I suggest including a list of advantages of participation.

4: Would you like to come to another internation Shealtiel family reunion in Spain in the year 2000? ...why?
A: Yes, we will be there. The experience in Thessaloniki was wonderful. We can't imagine not participating the next time.
B: I would love to visit the Shealtiel family reunion in 2000 CE if I could. Why? To meet others in the family. To learn more about our "roots" to pre-inquisition Spain. And... I've traveled in a number of West European countries, but never in Spain. Actually, if possible, I'd attend the reunion...then also travel trhoughout the peninsula. It would be a wonderful opportunity for many reasons.
C: I might consider this. Spain is a great place to visit for any reason. Also, there are some people I would be curious to meet in person.
D: I have not made either of the two previous reunions but would attempt to be in Barcelona if the timing were right and the leadtime adequate.

5: In what way would you be able to help the Family Network as a volunteer?
A: Contact family, editing articles, organize reunions, handle banking. Any of these, I would be happy to help with.
B: My health goes through ups and downs, often daily, and it is impossible for me to make commitments as a family network volunteer. If that changes, though...
C: At this time I have very little free time, but if I had to pick one area it woul be in the more technical area (my expertise) helping out with the website, etc.
D: My best help could be in the form of editing and/or proof reading (English of course). I've always been a "nit-picker" and my wife teaches English.

6: Are there other issues which you think our family should discuss at the meeting in Paris?
A: I think that if you cover everything you discuss here, you'll accomplish a lot and not have much time to anything else. Good luck and thanks.
B: No, I'm sure that is adequately covered.
C: Clarification of the organizational structure. Is there any? Who's running what? How does this change? Who decides who makes the decisions, etc?
D: Can't think of other issues... |
