NEW DISCOVERIES ON THE INTERNET
The Shattil family created their own family website and is also hosting family reunions. Their organisation seems inspired by our own Family Network. They have a link to our family website and this is how they describe the Shealtiels: "This large and widely dispersed family claims to trace their roots to an individual who lived in 600 B.C. Although their family name is similar to ours, so far we haven't found any definitive links to them. Too bad, because they seem to throw some wild family reunions."
This is the very interesting story how Mark Abolofia went on A journey back to Turkey and discovered the roots of his Great-Great Grandmother Zimbul Saltiel.
Enjoy Saltiel's tea service next time you come to the big apple!

10 year old AHJED SALTIEL lives in Thessalonika, Greece
She wrote in "The Torch" in 1996: PARROT TALK by Ahjed Saltiel "I would like to have an Indian parrot as a pet because it is big and quite beautiful. It has bright green and red feathers. I know that most of these parrots kan speak and this is the reason I would like to have one. Of course I know they can't have conversation, but they can learn to pronounce words and phrases like "Hello! How are
you? What's your name?" They even call people by their name. These parrots can live up to 100 years and you can feed them easily.
I would also like to have a pet dog because dogs are men's best friend and they make good company. But I would be very sorry if after a few years (about 15 years) it died because it would be old. I also know that a dog needs great care and that sometimes you can get into trouble if it start playing in the house. That is why I prefer a parrot to a dog".

SALTIEL JOURNALISM

Cultural bridge by RACHEL AMADO BORTNICK
Bay Area singers Judy Frankel and Aron Saltiel were a big hit in Dallas recently when they performed separately and together in a concert of Sephardic songs at the Jewish Community Center.
Hispanics, Muslim Turks, Jews and non-Jews of many backgrounds filled the 500-seat Zale Auditorium to capacity, giving proof to the fact that Sephardic music is a beautiful bridge between cultures -- especially when performed by such talented and beautiful people as Frankel and Saltiel.
