HOW TO DRIFT How to Mentally Drift How to use drifting to get somewhere without having to feel the effects of boredom. Many people can make use of a technique called "drifting". It is useful when you want to get somewhere without having to wait to get there. Examples of this include being impatient to walk home from school to play a game, or waiting in the doctor's office. You don't become bored when you're drifting and you lose track of space and time, which is why it is like teleporting. Drifting does not affect the world around you, just yourself. It is kind of a personal teleport; time still passes, but it seems to you that the time you spent in the state of "drifting" is a fraction of a second. Once you master the art of drifting you will be able to use it in your every day life. Steps Determine your destination point (where you would like to drift to). Straight paths are usually the easiest to drift through, for they don't use the brain and don't get out of the mental state which is needed for drifting. Enter a mental state (see "Tips" on drifting), where you think of nothing except your destination point. Once you are in this state of mind you will begin to drift, all the way to your destination point. Destination points are important, sometimes you sill forget your destination point and will continue drifting in a straight path until you bump into something and awakens you from your trance. Drift in time. Drifting just so that time passes without you feeling the effects of boredom, is much easier then drifting to places. This type of drifting does not require you to have a destination point, but you do, however, need a sort of mental alarm clock. You will need to think of a sound or a touch that will wake you up once you enter the mental state. For example, you can set the alarm to be someone calling you name. Clear your mind, and enter the state needed for drifting and you're done. Tips Clear your mind and empty it of all thoughts. (Having a little chant or mantra may help. For example, try saying "1,2,1,2,1,2...." it usually clears a mind so that you are able to drift. Drifting is easier in noise-free environments. While drifting, please refrain from thinking as it disrupts the art of drifting and you may not feel the full soothing effects of drifting. Drifting is a little similiar to meditating, except for the fact that you are moving. So if you are have trouble drifting, it may help to try it without moving. Warnings Make sure that the path you are drifting through is free from objects which you might bump into while drifting, for this will awaken your mind and you will exit the state of drifting. Also if you drift too much and get too accustomed to the required state of mind, you might find yourself doing it involuntarily, which can be dangerous when driving for long distances or such. Learn how to snap out of it when you are doing an important activity requiring concentration. A Speacial thanks to chris bunning and joe wilmoth for the drifting tips :) :)
