What is a Digimon?
Ever since the original Tamogochi's came out several other companies have been trying to find the most original idea for a virtual pet. Finally the makers of the original (Bandai) came up with Digimon, the virtual pets which can fight other ones, they were designed to appeal more to boys. The idea was to have a pet in which how well you looked after it actually mattered because the better you look after it the more fights you would win. Digimon is short for Digital Monster, think of it a a cross between a virtual pet and a Pokemon.
Getting Started
The ideal way to understand the game is read the small booklet that comes with it, but in case you haven't got one or need a greater understanding here goes.
The first think to greet you once you have switched it on is a curious little egg that some how manages to move. Before it can hatch you will have to set the time, to do this, first press the B button, the time menu should now appear. You can now set the hour by pressing A and the minutes by pressing B. When you have finished press C and the egg should hatch after 5 minutes.
Now it is a little black thing and it will be wanting much attention for the first hour, don't worry, it won't be wanting this much attention all the time. For the first hour you will have to feed it about every two minutes and the same with training, now you can learn the basic skills. You go through the menu by pressing A and can select things by pressing B and cancel by pressing C. There are some other useful key combinations:
When nothing is selected press A and then C with your finger still on A. This should turn the sound off
When nothing is selected press B. This will get you into time mode.
In time mode press A and then C with your finger still on A. Now you can set the time again.
In the menu, the first icon, you can find out everything you need to know about your Digimon. First you should see the age and weight screen, the age changes every day and the weight changes when you feed him and play with him. Next is the hunger screen, every time a heart goes empty it means he wants more food, the next is the strength screen, every time a heart goes down here it means he has less strength and you need to either train him or give him vitamins. The last two are the energy screen and the victory screen. The energy bar shows how much energy you monster has. This should stay at zero until he is two, the victory screen shows how many fights you have won. So if you have won 2 fights out of 4 then it should be at 50%.
Getting The Digimon You Want
There are 4 factors which effect which Digimon you get. They are: Hunger Hearts, Strength Hearts, Alarm Responding, and Waking Up Call. However you respond to these four factors will determine how your Digimon evolves. For example, if you train a lot, feed a lot, correct alarms quickly, and don't wake up your Digimon you are more likely to get a stronger Digimon. There are 3 categories for Digimons: Low, Medium and High.
Low: To get a low digimon, you must feed him very little, train him very little, respond to alarms VERY slowly, and Wake him up while he's asleep.
Medium: To get a medium digimon, you must fill up all his strength and hunger hearts, respond like normal, and wake ups can go either way.
High: To get a high Digimon, you must feed your digimon even though all his hunger hearts are full, train him even though his strength hearts are full, respond VERY quickly, and never wake him up at night.
It is true to say that some luck is involved in getting each digimon. Also be sure to check the evolution chart, because the evolution steps are sometimes different with each digimon.
Agumon: Medium, High
Betamon: Low
Greymon: High
Airdramon: High
Darkmon: High
Mermon: Medium
Seadramon: Medium
Tyranomon: Medium
Numemon: Low
Remember though, that getting a good level 4 digimon usually means that your level 5 won't be as good. So take a risk and try the Numemon. That's the only way to get a Teddymon.
