Skandor Akbar began his wrestling career in 1963. Lou Thez gave Akbar his start in the sport.
Danny Hodge & Skandor were Tag Team Partners for 5 years. During that time they were the United States Tag Team Champions.
Skandor tag teamed with Ox Baker in 1972 & they held the Georgia Tag Team Titles. |
Skandor Akbar & Danny Hodge held the United States Tag Team Title in 1967.
Akbar held the Australian Heavyweight Title for over a year. Skandor was like a National Hero in Australia. A lot of the transplanted folks there are from Lebanon.
Skandor & Ox Baker held the NWA Georgia Tag Team Belts in 1972..
Akbar & Rocket Monroe held the Maco Tag Team Belts in 1972 also.
Skandor held the NWA Heavyweight Title.

Heat is what we call the pressures brought to bear on Akbar & his stable.
During the oil embargo & chrunch that followed, "The General" announced to the fans, that if they didn't quit booing his talent,
He would cut off all the oil to the United States. Skandor had to wear a bullet proof vest to the Superdome in New Orleans, due to death threats called into a local TV station!
A woman at an Arkansas event once threw her baby at Akbar in the ring. The child was unhurt even though it landed on the floor.
I had my car shot up by angry fans after they followed me home. They used a machine gun!
We often had to run for the car when angry fans threw rocks, sticks & whatever they could pitch at us. |
