| It was a late stormy night at the legacy house when Rachel is talking on the phone with Kat trying to get her to go to sleep. Rachel can't go home because of the rainy weather and had to stay there. Rachel gets off the phone and sits on the couch next to Alex as they talk about Nick. Rachel and Nick were working on a project but have not returned yet. They start to pick on Nick in a funny way. (I have a quote, which I think is very funny). "Neither rain or sleet or snow or gloom of night," said Alex as Rachel cut her off. "Will stop him from getting from 0 to 60 in under 8 seconds," said Rachel as her and Alex laughed. Nick driving through the rain is tired and coming back to the house. But he doesn't know that there is someone on the grounds. A women is being chased by a man, she rushes over the fence as Nick's car hits her. Nick rushes out of his car to ask if she is okay, as she keeps saying stay away from me. The women is frightened to death and Nick just hit her with his car. Then suddenly there hear a horn, Nick pulls into the house and brings the women inside as Rachel tends to her. Derek comes out and asks what has happened. They are all in the living room, as Rachel checks her to see if she is okay. She is okay but she wants to leave very badly but Rachel insists that she get some rest as Derek offers her to stay, and of course he will not take no for an answer. Nick shows her to the guest room, Nick shows her around the room and then leaves. But when Nick shuts the door the mysterious lady reaches for her bag that she was carrying. She dumps everything out of it like; Holy Water, a Cross, etc. and starts to pray: "Lord of heaven, Lord of hosts. Guarders the sign of the demons of the pit and the corruptors of the soul. Give us the strength, (then she pauses), Lord of heaven, Lord of hosts, Guarders the sign of the demons of the pit and the corruptors of the soul." Then she suddenly back flashes to a women she was arguing with and then a women fly's out a window. Back downstairs in the living room, Rachel is folding a blanket as Alex walks in. Derek asks Alex if she found anything on the security tapes. Her reply was no and that the man that this women was mysteriously saying was chasing her did not show up on the security tapes either. Derek assumes that the women, Mary Rogers, was not being chased by anyone but then Rachel cuts in saying that Mary might have thought she was. Nick walks in and is curious on what Rachel meant by "maybe she thought she was". Rachel explains that they don't know anything about her, and that her terror was genuine, that the man that was chasing her is just a figment of her imagination and that she could be suffering from a hallucination. But then Derek makes a very good point by implying one simple thing, maybe that was her only way to get into the house. Back in Mary's room, she goes to her bathroom and as she goes into a purse (pouch or a little baggy, something you could stuff little things in) and pulls out some medication but then she hears a voice saying, "I'd sell my soul, I'd sell my soul"; she thinks it is someone behind the bathroom curtain; she pulls it but no one is there. Then she goes to take her medication. It is directed for a patient named Emma Scott; the drug is Diazepam. She took one and then she heard another voice. "Time growing short Emma, Have you remembered to say your prayers." Mary started to freak out and throws the glass at the window as she has a flashback of a women flying out the window. They were having a conversation about a mother, their mother, it was her sister. Then she snapped out of it. Nick was in his room, writing in his journal when suddenly Mary comes knocking on Nick's and walks in. Franticly, she tells Nick that she can't go back into her room. Nick tries to calm her down but when he does; she catches Nick off guard as she passionately kisses him. Nick is paralyzed, then he snaps out of it. Mary wants to kiss him again but Nick says no, he says that she might not know what she is doing but when she replies that she does Nick says he doesn't and tells her that he will go get some blankets, so he will sleep on the couch as she sleeps on the bed. Nick puts his journal on the side of his dresser and walks out as Mary frowns in disappointment. Mary goes to his dresser and picks up his legacy journal to open it when she sees a man in the mirror (there is a mirror connected to Nick's wooden dresser). A man is sitting there in Nick's chair, as he gets up saying, "You can run Emma, but when will you learn? You cannot hide." Mary turns around to find that no one is there. Yet she hears a frightening laugh from the room. The next morning, Mary is walking to Nick as he is fixing his car. She slept in late and was embarrassed because she usually doesn't do that. Then she got curious and started asking questions about the house and where she is. Nick got defensive and also got curious in her. She confesses about the man that was chasing her and how she has been running for her life then she says that for once in a long time she felt safe again. Then Nick gets serious and puts Mary on the spot telling her to tell the truth. But she doubts that they will understand, and then she confesses to Nick who she really is. Inside that house, at the library Alex is making her way down that stairs as they start to talk about Mary. Alex found out that she made a phone call late last night to a Monastery, called Hadley Bay. Derek knew the place because it was run by Brother Brandon an old friend of Derek's. But Alex and Rachel held disappointing news for Derek. Brother Brandon was almost killed when a beam from the roof of the church fell on him, almost crushing him to death. Derek disturbed was curious on what Mary Rogers wanted with him. Rachel initiated a search in that area and found some pretty "bizarre" news. Meanwhile, Nick and Mary were walking down a road talking about the truth. Mary was frightened and felt like she was not safe anywhere because no one believed her except Nick. At the library, Rachel discovered that Mary Rogers died last week. Mary Rogers was a long-term patient in a sanitarium in Oakland, yet this was the same place where a woman named "Emma Scott" escaped. Emma Scott was sent there after be diagnosed that she could not stand trial and was accused of killing her sister. Emma claimed that someone came in and pushed her, but the police found no clues as to a burglary. Emma had a doctor named Doctor Protorius. Back at the road, Nick and Emma were talking about how her sister died and how no one would believe her. Nick said that her doctor could surely help but Emma denied saying he couldn't. Emma explains how everyone that has helped her has failed, then Nick embraced her with a hug as she had a flashback of her sisters horrible death; flying out the window, hearing a scream and seeing nothing but herself. Later, at the control room; Nick walks in as Rachel and Alex were working on something. Nick asked them if they have seen Derek, Alex doesn't know but asks why. Nick wanted to talk to Derek about the girl, and then Rachel speaks out saying that he doesn't exactly know her. But Nick replies saying basically that he does know some about her. Nick and Rachel end up getting into a fight about how to help Emma. Rachel insists that she go to the police or her doctor. Rachel keeps trying to say that the legacy should not get involved but Nick says they should. He walks out with a comment of just helping Emma. Later that night, in the dining room, everyone is eating dinner and are talking to the girl Emma Scott. Derek and Rachel are beating down on her pretty hard insisting that she should have told the truth about who she really was and should have not lied to them. Emma said that they were her last resort, but Nick makes a comment saying that she is in bad shape if so. Rachel tells Nick to cut it out, but Nick says that for the last half an hour it has been nothing but an inquisition. But the conversation is broken when the janitor, Dominick walks in saying that they have a visitor. Derek looks at the card, Dominick asks if Derek would like him to come in but the mysterious visitor comes in anyway. It is Emma's doctor, Doctor Samuel Protorious. Emma starts to freak out and grabs Nick. She keeps saying to keep him away from her. Using Nick as a shield she makes her way out of the room saying the Doctor Protorious is the one, the one who killed her sister. Emma leaves the room with Nick, as Doctor Protorious gets a glass of water. He explains himself and how he made the entrance. He didn't mean to be rude it's just that he needs to get Emma, he said how he should have alerted the police but he hopes to avoid all that. The Doctor asks to sit down but Derek says lets go into another room. Upstairs, Emma takes Nick into her room. Emma says that Nick has to help her, but just him. Nick tells her that she is not going to go anywhere, but when he brings up Doctor Protorious she says that, the man downstairs is not Doctor Protorious. Nick tries to understand but he could not because he didn't know everything. Nick tells her to tell the truth and all of it. She explains that her sister was dieing and in constant pain. She says that one night when she was praying, she said she would do anything to ease her sister's pain. She made a deal, she said that she would give her own soul and that thing downstairs is here to claim her soul. Back downstairs; Doctor Protorious is talking to the others about Emma. Derek curious is she had made any progress under his care. He replies no. Upstairs, Nick does not understand. He says that since her sister is dead that the deal is off. But Emma says that he has it wrong. Emma implies that he "the thing" tricked her, that it spared her sister from pain by throwing her through a window. Nick is trying to make sense of this, he says that the man downstairs is a devil sent to seal her deal. Emma says that he is right and that is why he must go and destroy it. But Nick can't just go downstairs and "pop" the guy. Emma then gets angry and says why not, that if he can't then he will kill everyone. Downstairs, the Doctor explains her conditions and family life to everyone. He said that Emma lost her father in a freak accident; her mother lost touch with reality and her sister took control. But Emma did not like that so there was a lot of jealousy. Derek implies to say that she committed murder is sort of a stretch from rebellion against her sister. The Doctor explains that is why she can't face it, which is why she blames him for her sister's death. Derek again raises the thought that Emma said that the Doctor did it. But the Doctor denied and replied saying some ridiculous. But as they go deeper into the conversation, the Doctor raises up that he asked for religious help. They called Brother Brandon. As soon as they mentioned him (Brother Brandon) he had a vision; Brother Brandon looking up, he yells then the ceiling collapses and Emma screams in terror, a man casts a shadow but Derek cannot see him. Derek snaps out of it and the Doctor asks if he is all right. Derek gets up and says he is fine but has his suspicions. Back in Emma's room, Nick is going downstairs to talk to everyone. Nick walks into the dining room where everyone was eating. Dominick, the janitor, was about to pick up a glass as Nick says to put it down. Dominick hands Nick a napkin as Nick picks the glass up. In the living room, the Doctor insists that he takes charge of Emma's care again. The Doctor tries to go and see Emma but Nick stands in his way saying that he is not. Rachel gets on Nick's case for acting so rude but Derek calls him out into the hallway to talk before he could punch the good Doctor's face in. In the hallway, Nick tells Derek that he does not trust the Doctor and Derek agrees. Derek has a funny feeling about the Doctor and tells Nick to look up on him. Meanwhile, in Emma's room. She is throwing everything she has in her handbag and is trying to run. As she goes in the chore to pick something up the Doctor appears behind. Emma freaks and turns around to find that he disappeared. Emma looks into the dresser mirror and has a flashback; she was talking to her sister as her sister says that she claimed the house (Emma's mother just passed away and the house belongs to her and her sister but her sister does not want to share) Emma got furious and angry at her sister as she says the words, "I'd sell my soul to see you dead." Next thing she knows her sister is flying out a window. In the control room, Nick is analyzing the glass that the Doctor supposedly drank out of. Alex is talking to him but hey are at each others throat. Derek walks in and Nick is done analyzing the glass and finds out that there are not prints on the glass that the Doctor left. But then Alex discovers something. Alex discovers that the Doctor Protrious is actually dead. The alarm goes off and they find out that Emma is trying to runaway from the house. Derek tells Nick to go to Brother Brandon, as long as he is still alive he will know how to keep Emma safe. The plan was while Nick went with Emma, Derek and the rest of them will keep the mysterious Doctor at bay. Emma was at the dock where the boat was when Nick came and found her. She said she had to leave immediately and Nick agreed. So the they were off and went on there way to the church, where only Brother Brandon could save her. Meanwhile in the house, the Doctor is talking with Rachel about Emma's condition. As the Doctor is about to leave, Derek makes up an excuse on why he must stay. But the Doctor suddenly changes. He showed his face. It was a demon, a demon that Derek knew, the demon that killed his father. The demon says on how if Derek would like him to say hi to his father, Derek furious slams him up against the wall and he disappears. Then he says, "Leave Emma to me." Everyone hurries and rigs the chopper; Rachel called the monastery to tell them that they are coming. At the monastery, Nick and Emma make it. They knock on the door, a Priest lets them in. There in the back of the room lies Brother Brandon. In bed, and can barely speak. Brother Brandon is telling Emma that her soul is still in danger, that the demon is close. Brother Brandon cannot finish what they were doing in the chapel, so Nick must do it. In the chopper; Derek and the others are running into some bad weather. Derek cannot see so he asks Alex to locate a good landing spot for him. As they make a turn, lightning hits the side of the mountain. Nick and Emma run into the chapel and hurries to find the book with the blessing to free Emma's soul. When they enter the chapel, everything has been torn apart. The ceiling had caved in and everything was in ruins. They start to look for a book with a prayer that Emma and Brother Brandon were doing before the roof suddenly collapsed on him. They find the book under some old table, they hurry to search through it and find the prayer. Emma gets on her knees as Nick starts to read the prayer, Emma recites. As Nick starts to read a roar comes out of the darkness of the chapel. It is the demon that is after Emma's soul. "Must we go through this again?" Nick looks around the room with his flashlight, but Emma tells him to hurry. As Nick starts to read the demon interrupts again by finishing the prayer. Then in the darkness a man appears. It is Doctor Protorius. The demon talks about the prayer, the prayer of Penitence; "but why bother", Nick is holding the book in his hands and it catches on fire. Emma screams and tries to put the fire out. The demon comes forward to claim Emma, the demon wants her soul that was the deal, Emma wished her sister dead and in return she gave up her soul. Emma asks what he wants from her, and he says again her soul. But then Emma points to Nick and says to take him, to take everyone but her. Then the demon appears beside her and flicks his snake tongue out; scaring her, she runs out the chapel. Nick tells her not to run and runs after her. Nick tries to tell her that we could stop him, but she ran out the door and before Nick could reach her the demon sets the doors on fire. The demon tells Nick to let her go and don't worry about her. He disappears through the flames of the burning door. The flames disappear and Nick walks out of the chapel. The monastery monks are standing round as Nick asks where did she go. Rachel, Alex, and Derek come running to him. Nick feels defeated and Derek tells him that it was to late. That she made a deal, and honest deal and there was nothing they could do about it. The Prayer of Penitence is only words; she must believe it in order for her soul to truly be free. Until then she will be running to the rest of her life.
