The very first episode of DBZ was a special reunion. Everyone except Yamcha was invited there. They had a little party, food, and Goku even brought his son, Gohan. But all of a sudden, someone dropped in to crash the party. His name... Raditz. A very powerful Saiyan from the planet Vegeta. After we all found out who Goku really was and where he was from, he ordered Goku to join him and his friends... or else lose his son. He kidnapped young Gohan and ran back to his ship.
An Unlikely Pairing...
Goku was getting ready to do battle with Raditz, when, of all people, it was Piccolo who offered to team up with him (Notice that Piccolo and Goku were still enemies then)! Together, the duo went out and attacked Raditz head-on. Raditz was in complete control of the battle. He flew up in the air and showed Earth's Strongest Team how to fight... by launching 2 Standard Energy Blasts out of each hand. Goku was able to dodge the blast. Piccolo, on the other hand, wasn't as lucky...
Gohan... power level 710?!?
Piccolo, wounded by the blast, still fought, but he had one hand. Piccolo came up with an idea, and told Goku that he could kill Raditz with a special move known as the Special Beam Cannon. Goku fought Raditz head-on for 5 minutes, which was what Piccolo had asked him to do. Goku attacked Raditz with a Kame-hame-ha, but the blast wasn't strong enough. Raditz cancelled it out, but then noticed something else... Piccolo had finished gathering the energy! Raditz dodged the blast, but still got hit in the shoulder. After that, Raditz beat the crap out of Goku.
When everything seemed hopeless, Raditz's scouter started to show something. Gohan's power level was now even higher than before! Gohan busted out of the ship, and hit Raditz right in the chest head-on with a power level of over 1300. Raditz was steamed, and knocked Gohan unconscious. Right before Raditz had a chance to kill Gohan, Goku came around and had Raditz in a full Nelson. Now it was all up to Piccolo to charge up that cannon!
Double Death
Piccolo had charged up the cannon, but then Goku had just remembered something - how was he gonna dodge the blast? Goku at that point didn't seem to care, and kept his hold on Raditz stronge. Piccolo fired the cannon, and Raditz couldn't break the hold. The blast went through both him and Goku, keeping both men on the ground in pain. If it wasn't for Gohan, Raditz would've been able to break the hold, probably killing everyone. Right before Raditz died, Piccolo made a dumb mistake and told Raditz about the Dragon Balls. Why was it a mistake? The scouter Raditz was wearing was also a communicator, and two Saiyans overheard the entire thing. Once aware of that, Piccolo killed Raditz instantly.
A minute later, Krillin, Bulma, and Master Roshi landed to try to give Goku medical attention. Unfortunately, Goku was in too bad a shape, and died in two minutes. Piccolo regenerated his arm, and took Gohan with him for training. Goku was dead, but that wasn't the last we saw of him. We then saw Goku in the Other Dimension, with Kami. Kami was asking King Yama (He's sorta like God in DBZ) for permission to go taake Snake Way and try to reach King Kai's place before the 2 Saiyans arrive. He was allowed, and Then the final part was Goku running on Snake Way.
For the next couple weeks, Goku is running on Snake Way, Krillin, Yamcha, Chiaotzu and Tien are training at Master Roshi's, and Gohan is training with Piccolo. Eventually, Goku makes it to King Kai's place in the Southern Galaxy and trains Goku for 88 days or so. Gohan starts to master Piccolo's training, and the others on Karin Tower go down to earth a day before the Saiyans arrive. Goku finishes his training a day before the arrival of the Saiyans, gets wished back and goes back on Snake Way so he can get back to Earth in time. Of course, being Goku, he doesn't make it back before the Saiyans arrive, and the Z-Fighters must defend against them.
The Arrival
Vegeta and Nappa arrive on Earth, and head straight for Gohan and Piccolo (This being because they are the first ones they picked up on the scouters). The Z-Fighters gather round, and face their first obstacle - Nappa's green Saiba-men. First up is Yamcha. He seems to be winning the fight so far, and does a move that kills the Saiba-man (or so he thinks). But the Saiba-man is still alive, and does a suicidal attack that kills both he and Yamcha. Bulma, who was watching the fight on TV, goes into shock and starts crying a river for Yamcha, while Puar passes out.
Next up is Krillin, who gathers energy for a very slow but powerful attack. The attack is like an overgrown Standard Energy Blast that goes up and then showers into many Energy Blasts. Krillin killed all the Saiba-men, and then sent one blast to the Saiyans. Unfortunately, the Saiyans are too powerful, and block the attack with ease.
The Z_Fighters vs. Nappa
First up at bat is Piccolo and Krillin, who do the tri-form technique (This is a move that splits a person into three images. Piccolo is seen doing this technique about three times). Vegeta is impressed at this move, saying it's pretty cool. Nappa makes quick work of the two, and slams the Krillin's and Piccolo's back into each other. Tien attacks next, but winds up getting beat terribly. He winds up losing his left hand, and takes a time-out. Chiaotzu comes up to bat and hits a fly ball. He jumps onto Nappa's back and does a suicidal attack. The attack is powerful, but not enough to hurt Nappa. That's one out for the Z-Fighters.
Tien comes back in the game and goes all out against Nappa. Enraged by the loss of Chiaotzu, he gives it his all against Nappa. Tien runs out of juice, and kicks the bucket. That's two outs for the Z-Team.
Last up to bat is Krillin, Piccolo and Gohan. Before Nappa goes in for the kill, Vegeta calls a time-out! Vegeta is starting to wonder if this, "Goku" is Kakarot. After he finds out that Kakarot is Goku, he decides to take a three hour break, then whether or not Goku comes, the fight will go on. Nappa, unfortunately, doesn't know how to be patient like Vegeta, so he decides to go out and have some fun with the military. Of course Nappa wins, cause Earthlings are just too weak in DBZ.
The three hours ended, and Goku still wasn't at the battlefield (but he was heading there). Piccolo came up with the idea to have Krillin attack Nappa head-on for three minutes, then he'd grab Nappa's tail and make Nappa beg for mercy, leaving Nappa open for an attack from Gohan. Part one worked ok, Krillin lasted five seconds against Nappa, and Piccolo grabbed Nappa's tail, which made him beg for mercy, right? Wrong.
Nappa and Vegeta were no ordinary Saiyans. They got rid of that little weakness of Saiyans, and Piccolo took one hard elbow right in the cranium. Gohan was gonna run away, but Nappa decided to have a little fun. It backfired on him, and Gohan kicked him in the head with such force that it sent him back into a boulder, breaking it. Nappa charged up for a minute, and let loose the final blast that would kill Gohan instantly. Right then, Piccolo's metamorphosis from a villian to a hero was complete, and out of love for Gohan he put himself in the way of the blast, which wound up killing both he and Kami. That's three outs. Nappa then sent a punch to the ground that was gonna kill Gohan, but he vanished! Gohan looked down, and we all saw Flying Nimbus. You know that can only mean one thing...
Goku vs. Nappa - A quick duel
Goku went over to Gohan and Krillin. He gave each of them a half a Senzu Bean, restoring their health almost instantly. But Goku had a little problem... Nappa. He went over to the big doofus and showed him how strong he had become. Vegeta's scouter was reading around 9,000, so he had a hissy fit and broke the scouter. Since Nappa was only 4,000, we knew then that Goku was more than his match. Nappa attacked Goku, but he was too quick. We saw Goku standing on Nappa's head. He got mad and try to attack Goku again. Didn't hit him. The whole fight was basically Nappa trying to attack Goku, and he got beat up pretty bad. Vegeta was embarrassed at Nappa, and ordered him to stop. The fight was over. Or was it?
Nappa did something we thought he'd never do, and he accepted defeat. But then, he went after Gohan and Krillin! Goku was at the other side of the battle field, and couldn't catch Nappa. Goku was forced to use the Kaio-ken, and slammed Nappa into the ground. Nappa begged for Vegeta to give him a hand. Vegeta lifted Nappa up, threw him in the air, and killed Nappa with a standard energy blast. Vegeta and Goku decided to go to the Badlands for their fight, so now it's time for...
