This guide was created for Pokemon Red and Blue, but it works for Yellow. The only differences are in Bulbasaur/Squirtle/Charmander and Pikachu.


#001 Bulbasaur: This is a starting Pokémon, you can get this Pokemon from Professor Oak or a friend.

#002 Ivysaur: Evolves from Bulbasaur at level 16.

#003 Venusaur: Evolves from Ivysaur at Level 32.

#004 Charmander: This is a starting Pokémon, you can get this Pokemon from Professor Oak or a friend.

#005 Charmeleon: Evolves from Charmander at Level 16

#006 Charizard: Evolves from Charmeleon at level 36,

#007 Squirtle: This is a starting Pokémon, you can get this Pokemon from Professor Oak or a friend.

#008 Wartortle: Evolves from Squirtle at level 16.

#009 Blastoise: Evolves from Wartortle at level 36.

#0010 Caterpie: Found many places, try Route 2, Viridian Forest, or Route 25.
#011 Metapod: Evolves from Caterpie at Level 7 or found in many places; try Viridian Forest, Route 24, or Route 25.

#012 Butterfree: It will evolve from Metapod at level 10.

#013 Weedle: Found many places; try in Viridian Forest, Route 2, Route 25, or Route 24.

#014 Kakuna: It will evolve from Weedle at Level 7 and it can also be found in Viridian Forest, Route 24, or Route 25.

#015 Beedrill: It will evolve from Kakuna at level 10.

#016 Pidgey: Found basically anywhere in the open, but try Routes 2, 25, 5, 6, and 7.

#017 Pidgeotto: Evolves from Pidgey at Level 18, or find in Routes 14 and 15; the area to the right of Fushcia City.

#018 Pidgeot: Evolves from Pidgeotto at Level 36.

#019 Rattata: Like Pidgey, it can be found anywhere in the open. If you can't find it, try 1, 2, and 14.

#020 Raticate: Evolves from Rattata at Level 16, and it can be caught on routes in Routes 16, 17, and 18.

#021 Spearow: Found in many places. Check around Routes for higher-leveled ones. 17, 18.

#022 Fearow: If you want, evolve it from Spearow at Level 20, or find on Route 23 or several other places.

#023 Ekans: Red Version Only. Check in the patch of grass in between Mount Moon and Cerulean City.

#024 Arbok: Red Version only. Can be found in the Unknown Dungeon or on Route 25 I think. It will also evolve from Ekans at Level 22.

#025 Pikachu: It is somewhat rare in Viridian Forest; you can find higher-level ones that are more common in the Power Plant.

#026 Raichu: The easiest way to get one is to use a Thunderstone on Pikachu. You can also get one at the Unknown Dungeon and the Power Plant.

#027 Sandshrew: Only found in the Blue version. It is found in most of the places that you find Ekans; look after Mount Moon, before Cerulean.

#028 Sandslash: Blue version only. Check for one in the Unknown Dungeon or catch a Sandshrew and level it up to Level 22.

#029 Nidoran (F): Found in the Safari Zone or the little patch off grass to the left of Viridian City where you fight your Second rival battle.

#030 Nidorina: Safari Zone, or you can evolve it from a Nidoran (F) at level 16.

#031 Nidoqueen: Use a moon stone on Nidorina, and Nidorina will evolve into Nidoqueen.

#032 Nidoran (M): Same Locations as Nidoran (F).

#033 Nidorino: Found in the Safari Zone, and it evolves from Nidoran at level 16.

#034 Nidoking: Use hard-to-come-by moon stone on Nidorino and you will get a Nidoking.

#035 Clefairy: They rarely appear at Mount Moon. If you don't find one, just get one from the game corner.

#036 Clefable: Use the Moonstone on one and there you go.

#037 Vulpix: Blue version only. Found in the burned out lab on Cinnibar and Route 7.

#038 Ninetales: Blue version only. Get a fire stone from the pokemart in Celadon city and use it on Vulpix to get a Ninetales.

#039 Jigglypuff: Found on route 3. It is kinda rare, though.

#040 Wigglytuff: You can evolve it from Jigglypuff with a Moon Stone, but don't waste one on it unless you duplicated Moon Stones. Instead, catch one in the Unknown Dungeon.

#041 Zubat: Found in different places. Check in a cave area like rock tunnel and mount moon.

#042 Golbat: Get one in Seafoam Islands or evolve on from a Golbat.

#043 Oddish: Can be seen many places, but in the red version only. Check routes 5, 6, and 7.

#044 Gloom: Red version only. Check routes 14 and 15 if you want a Gloom. You can always evolve one from an Oddish at level 21.

#045 Vileplume: Red version only. You have to buy a Leaf Stone from the Celadon City Department Store. Use it on Gloom to make it evolve.

#046 Paras: Find in Mount Moon and the Safari Zone.

#047 Parasect: This Pokemon will evolve from Paras at level 21. You can catch one at the Safari Zone or catch one in the Unknown Dungeon.

#048 Venonat: Get the stronger ones at the Safari Zone or on Routes 12 and 14.

#049 Venomoth: You can evolve one from a Venonat by getting it to level 31. The easiest catch is the Safari Zone, but for the people wanting more of a challenge you can always catch one at the Unknown Dungeon.

#050 Diglett: Kinda obvious, it is found in Diglett's Cave.

#051 Dugtrio: Found somewhat rarely in Diglett's Cave. It is very hard to catch. One time I had one that had 6 HP left, it was sleeping, and it took me 7 ultra balls to catch. You can also evolve a Diglett at level 26.

#052 Meowth: You can only catch a Meowth in the Blue Version. Check Routes 5 and 6.

#053 Persian: This can only be caught in the Blue version. You can not catch them in the wild, you must get a Meowth up to level 28.

#054 Psyduck: Fish in the Safari Zone or Cerulean City. They are found in the wild in Seafoam Islands.

#055 Golduck: It will evolve from Psyduck at level 33. They are very rare, but sometimes you can catch them in the Seafoam Islands.

#056 Mankey: This Pokemon is in the Red Version only. Check on Routes 5 and 6 for one.

#057 Primeape: This Pokemon can not be caught in the wild. You must level up a Mankey to level 28 to get one of these.

#058 Growlithe: This Pokemon is in the Red Version only. Catch one on Routes 7 and 8 or the burned out lab on Cinnibar Island.

#059 Arcanine: This Pokemon is in the Red version only. It doesn't appear in the wild. Use the Fire Stone on a Growlithe to get it to become an Arcanine. If you plan to use your Arcanine, make sure you wait until level 50 before evolving Growlithe so it can learn all its moves.

#060 Poliwag: Get it by fishing in Miscellaneous places. Use the good rod or the super rod in Pallet Town if you can't find one.

#061 Poliwhirl: Use the Super Rod in the little lake in Celadon City. If you can't find one, you can always get a Poliwag to level 25.

#062 Poliwrath: Use a water stone on Poliwhirl to make it evolve into Poliwrath. The popular rumor is that Poliwhirl evolves when you trade it. It doesn't.

#063 Abra: Catch one on Route 7, the one above Celadon City and before Bill's House. They are hard to catch, you might just want to buy one at the casino.

#064 Kadabra: You can catch a strong one in the Unknown Dungeon, or you can get a Abra to level 16.

#065 Alakazam: Trade your Kadabra to a friend. When they get it, it will evolve into an Alakazam. Trade back and now it is yours.

#066 Machop: Only found in caves. You think that it wouldn't by the way it looks. Check for one in Rock Tunnel and Victory Road.

#067 Machoke: Train a Machop to level 28 to get it to evolve. Also, you can just catch one at Victory Road.

#068 Machamp: Trade your Machoke to a friend. When they get it, it will evolve into an Machamp. Trade back and now it is yours.

#069 Bellsprout: Can be found many places in the Blue Version. The first place you will see them is on Routes 7 and 8.

#070 Weepinbell: This Pokemon, being the counterpart to Gloom, is in the Blue version only. Check for one on Routes 14 and 15. You can always train an Bellsprout to level 21 to make it evolve.

#071 Victreebell: This Pokemon is in the Blue Version only. Use a Leaf Stone on a Weepinbell and it will evolve into a Victreebell.

#072 Tentacool: Found a lot of places. You will come across many when surfing from Fushcia to Seafoam Islands.

#073 Tentacruel: This Pokemon will evolve from Tentacool at level 30. You can also catch one in some spots of the Unknown Dungeon when surfing with the Super Rod.

#074 Geodude: Found in cave settings only. Get one in Mount Moon, Rock Tunnel, or Victory Road.

#075 Graveler: You can catch one at Victory Road or get one by getting a Geodude to level 25.

#076 Golem: Trade your Graveler to a friend. When they get it, it will evolve into an Golem. Trade back and now it is yours.

#077 Ponyta: The only place you can get this Pokemon is the burned out Pokemon lab on Cinnibar Island.

#078 Rapidash: Rumor has it that you can find one of these in the Unknown Dungeon. But, if you are like me and have never seen one, you can train a Ponyta to level 40.

#079 Slowpoke: You can find this Pokemon by fishing in many places, but try the Safari Zone. You can also find them regularly in Seafoam Islands.

#080 Slowbro: Sometimes you can find them in Seafoam Islands. You can also get them by fishing in the Unknown Dungeon with the Super Rod. Slowpoke will evolve into Slowbro at level 37.

#081 Magnemite: You can find this Pokemon in the Power Plant.

#082 Magneton: They are somewhat rare in the Power Plant. If you can not find one their, you can go to the Unknown Dungeon or train a Magnemite to level 30.

#083 Farfetch'd: In the building near the Pokemon Fan Club in Vermillion City, you can trade someone a Spearow for a Farfetch'd.

#084 Doduo: You can find the two-headed bird on Routes 17 and 18 or in the Safari Zone.

#085 Dodrio: You can find high level ones in the Unknown Dungeon. If you don't have the effort to catch one you can level up a Doduo to level 31.

#086 Seel: You can trade for one on Cinnibar Island, or you can catch a wild one in Seafoam Islands.

#087 Dewgong: Train the seel you traded for one level, and it should evolve if your Ponyta you traded was over level 33. You can also catch a wild Dewgong in Seafoam Islands.

#088 Grimer: The only place you can catch these is in the burned out Pokemon Lab on Cinnibar Island.

#089 Muk: To get a Muk you have three options. You can (1) catch one in the burned Pokemon Lab on Cinnibar Island, (2) catch one in the Unknown Dungeon, or (3) train a Grimer to level 38.

#090 Shellder: You can get these in Seafoam Islands or by fishing in different places.

#091 Cloyster: Use a water stone on Shellder to make it evolve into Cloyster.

#092 Gastly: You can only get this Pokemon at the Pokemon Ghost Tower in Lavender Town.

#093 Haunter: You can catch this Pokemon at the Pokemon Ghost Tower in Lavender Town, or you can train a Gastly to level 25.

#094 Gengar: When you trade a Haunter to a friend, it will evolve into a Gengar. Trade back and now you have a Gengar.

#095 Onix: You can find Onix in mid-late game caves; Rock Tunnel and Victory Road.

#096 Drowzee: You can only find Drowsee on Route 11.

#097 Hypno: You can catch a wild Hypno in the Unknown Dungeon. You can also train a Drowse to level 26 to make it evolve.

#098 Krabby: This Pokemon is found in the wild in Seafoam Islands, but you can also get one by fishing basically anywhere. Try Routes 4 and 12 if you are having trouble.

#099 Kingler: You have three options. (1) You can catch one in Seafoam Islands. (2) You can fish with the Super Road in the Unknown Dungeon. (3) You can train a Krabby to level 28.

#100 Voltorb: Found in the last patch of grass on Route 9 before Rock Tunnel. You can also catch one in the Power Plant.

#101 Electrode: You can catch an Electrode in the Power Plant or in the Unknown Dungeon. If they are difficult to catch and keep using self-destruct/explosion, train a Voltorb to level 30.

#102 Exeggcute: You can catch one of these Pokemon in the Safari Zone in Fushcia City.

#103 Exeggutor: To get Exeggcute, get a Leaf Stone from the Celadon City Department Store and use it on Exeggcute. It will evolve into Exeggutor.

#104 Cubone: They are rarely found in the Pokemon Ghost Tower in Lavender Town.

#105 Marowak: You can catch a Marowak in two places, Victory Road and the Unknown Dungeon. You can also train a Cubone to level 28.

#106 Hitmonlee: After you beat the Saffron City Fighting Dojo, the leader will let you pick a Pokemon. One of the Pokemon is Hitmonlee.

#107 Hitmonchan: The other Pokemon in the PokeBall at the Saffron City Fighting Dojo is Hitmonchan.

#108 Lickitung: You can trade a Slowbro to another trainer for a Lickitung at the Route 18 guard tower.

#109 Koffing: The only place you can catch a Joffing is in the burned out Pokemon Lab on Cinnibar Island.

#110 Weezing: You can also catch Koffing's evolution at Cinnibar Mansion. Or, you can train a Koffing to level 35.

#111 Rhyhorn: Rhyhorn can only be caught in the Safari Zone in Fuschia City.

#112 Rhydon: You can catch a Rhydon in the Unknown Dungeon. Rhydon evolves later then many Pokemon; it will not evolve from Rhyhorn until level 42.

#113 Chansey: You can catch a Chansey in the Safari Zone. You shouldn't spend a lot of time trying to get one though, because they are rare and always run away. Wait until you get to the Unknown Dungeon to catch a Chansey.

#114 Tangela: You can catch a Tangela on Route 21, but you can also trade with another trainer for one.

#115 Kangaskhan: The only place to catch the hard to catch Kangaskhan is in the Safari Zone in Fuschia City.

#116 Horsea: You can find this Pokemon by fishing in many places. Try fishing in Celadon City. You can also catch one in the Seafoam Islands.

#117 Seadra: You can catch a wild Seadra in the Seafoam Islands. You can also get one by fishing with the Super Rod in the Unknown Dungeon. You can also train a Horsea to level 32.

#118 Goldeen: You can get one by fishing in many places. Try fishing on Route 4. You can also catch them in the Seafoam Islands.

#119 Seaking: You can catch a Seaking in the Seafoam Islands. You can also get them by fishing with the Super Rod on Victory Road or in the Unknown Dungeon. Seaking will evolve from Goldeen at level 33.

#120 Staryu: You can find them by fhising in the waters around Seafoam Islands, or you can catch one in Seafoam Island.

#121 Starmie: To evolve a Starmie from a Staryu, use a water stone on Staryu.

#122 Mr. Mime: On route two, another trainer will trade you a Mr. Mime for an Abra.

#123 Scyther: This Pokemon is red version only. You can catch one in the Safari Zone in Fuschia, or you can get them from the Game Corner in Celadon City.

#124 Jynx: In Cerulean City, you can trade someone a Jynx for a Poliwhirl.

#125 Electabuzz: This Pokemon is in the Red version only. You can catch them in the Power Plant.

#126 Magmar: This Pokemon is in the Blue Version only. You can catch it in the burned out Pokemon Lab on Cinnibar Island.

#127 Pinsir: This Pokemon is in the Blue version only. You can catch them in the Safari Zone in Fuschia City or buy them with Coins from the Celadon City Game corner.

#128 Tauros: The only place to get this Pokemon is in the Safari Zone.

#129 Magikarp: Get this Pokemon by Fishing anywhere with the old rod. You can also buy one for ¥500 from a strange man in the Mount Moon PokeCenter.

#130 Gyarados: You can get a Magikarp up to level 20, or you can catch a wild Gyarados in the Unknown Dungeon by fishing with the Super Road.

#131 Lapras: After you fight your rival on the seventh floor of Silph Company, talk to the man in the room. He will give you Lapras.

#132 Ditto: Ditto is found on routes 13-15, and in the Unknown Dungeon. Catch one of these Pokemon easily by making it transform into a Magikarp.

#133 Eevee: In Celadon City, go up so that you are in back of the buildings. Enter the back of Celadon Mansion. Go up the stairs and you will come to a room with a man and a PokeBall. Inside the PokeBall is Eevee.

#134 Vaporeon: If you use the Water Stone on Eevee, it will evolve into Vaporeon.

#135 Jolteon: If you use the Thunder Stone on Eevee, it will evolve into Jolteon.

#136 Flareon: If you use the Fire Stone on Eevee, it will evolve into Flareon.

#137 Porygon: If you get 9999 coins, you can get a Porygon from the game corner in Celadon City.

#138 Omanyte: If you chose the Helix Fossil at Mount Moon, you can take it to the Scientist in the Cinnibar Island Lab and he will put it in his resurrection machine. After you leave the lab and come back, he will give you a Omanyte.

#139 Omastar: Train your Omanyte to level 40 and it will evolve into an Omastar.

#140 Kabuto: If you chose the Dome Fossil at Mount Moon, you can take it to the Scientist in the Cinnibar Island Lab and he will put it in his resurrection machine. After you leave the lab and come back, he will give you a Kabuto.

#141 Kabutops: If you train your Kabuto to level 40, it will evolve into a Kabutops.

#142 Aerodactyl: Go to the Museum in Pewter City and cut a bush so you can get in the back. Get the Old Amber from a Scientist there and you can take it to the Scientist in the Cinnibar Island Lab and he will put it in his resurrection machine. After you leave the lab and come back, he will give you an Aerodactyl.

#143 Snorlax: You must wake up a Snorlax on route 12 or 16 to progress in the game. When you wake one of them up, catch them.

#144 Articuno: Articuno is found in Seafoam Islands. Go to the room where the is about 5-7 boulders in a group. Push 2 down the hole and fall in. You will automatically start surfing. Surf up and you will see Articuno on a little island. Talk to it to fight it.

#145 Zapdos: Right before you exit the Power Plant at the ending, you will see Zapdos sitting there by the exit. Talk to it to fight it.

#146 Moltres: Found in Victory Road. On the third Floore, go to the top left corner. Go up the stiars, and you will be on the second floor. In the room you are in now, you will see Moltres sitting there. Moltres will be near a trainer and a Guard Spec.

#147 Dratini: If you fish with the Super Road in the Safari Zone, you might get one. I personally think it is easier to buy one at the Game Corner.

#148 Dragonair: The only way to get a Dragonair is to train a Dratini to level 30.

#149 Dragonite: The only way to get a Dragonite is to train a Dragonair to level 55.

#150 Mewtwo: This Pokemon is at level 70 and is at the end of the Unknown Dungeon. It is the hardest Pokemon to catch in the game. This is the one I would use my Masterball for, but for those of you who want a challange, try to catch Mewtwo the regular way with Pokemon under level 50.

#151 Mew : There is a lot of rumors and speculation about this Pokemon. No, you can't find this Pokemon near the SS Anne. No, you can not catch this Pokemon without GameShark. The only ways to catch this Pokemon are to use GameShark, (the code is in the Pokemon Secrets Section) win the Nintendo Power Contest, (which is long over) or to get it traded to your from the Nintendo booth things. They had over a year ago when they had a tournament for Pokemon Red and Blue. Good luck finding one now!
