Piccolo
Well, when I got my starter deck with Piccolo in it I was very elated. But
my excitement was somewhat lessened when I saw his power level.... 7700 max!
Yikes, Nappa OR Vegeta at level 2 are better then his level 3 card. With
that said, I would recommend only playing with Piccolo if you are a veteran
gamer, like myself.
The key to building a Piccolo deck isn't power. You will never win with
power. You need to strike fast and strike hard. I don't know how most
players out there play, but when me and my brother or me and my friend play 1
on 1 the hero gets to start at level 2 completely powered up (like it
suggests in the rule book.) So in that case choosing a level 1 Piccolo is
inconsequential. But if you do need to choose a level 1, use the one that is
thick and shiny. Piccolo needs any advantage he can get and the ability to
get an extra card... from your DISCARD pile just rocks.
Ok, now into the technical part. What cards do you want in your deck? In
some of the deck strategies I've seen on Planet Namek, people suggest using
more physical defense then energy. So lets just increase the number of
physical attacks.... WRONG!! My Piccolo deck is based mostly on energy
attacks (and I don't claim a favorite fighting style.) If you use a lot of
energy attacks some good things will start to happen:
1. You're the hero, you go first, if you grab an attack that does 6 life
card draws on the first turn, damn...
2. Many people aren't afraid of Piccolo because of his power level,
well... they're gonne be off guard when the energy attacks start coming.
3. I win EVERY TIME with my Piccolo deck.
Cards you should use 3 of in a Piccolo deck are: Piccolo's Revenge (this is a
SWEET card, 6 life card draws!!), Piccolo's Energy Attack (it costs 5, but it
packs a PUNCH), Black Front Kick (Raises your anger by 2, I like it a lot),
Black Knife Hand Strike (protects you or hurts him), Black Fore Fist Punch
(only costs 2 energy levels and does 6 DRAIN!!), Black Turning Kick (Raises
your anger by 1, a good card.)
Now, what non-combat cards do we put in? ANY CARD THAT RAISES YOUR POWER
LEVEL!!!! Your energy cards suck the life out of you so you need quick ways
to get it back.
A final note:
It may sound like I don't like Physical Combat, but I do. And I'll tell you
it's place in a piccolo deck. Piccolo is usually going to end up hitting for
0 on the chart so you need the + cards. Red cards have a lot of +3 stuff,
and a good card to have 2 of is Blue Neck Restraint Drill. It does +3 damage
with any Physical attack. That means that even if your power level is at 0
from energy attacks, you can still do 6 stages of damage. On another note,
Piccolo is all about suppression. Add in a lot of cards that lower the
opponents anger level because he COULD beat you if he powers up quick enough.
And finally, playing the Piccolo deck is the fun part. When you're at level
2, you can use his Special Beam Cannon. ALWAYS use it first. This puts the
opponent in a pickle: should he block it, or wait to see if a stronger one is
coming? It's all about mind games. With that, I turn you all loose into the
wonderful world of Piccolo!
