Slavery
Slaves exist in abundance in Concordia, forming the nucleus for their economic state. The life of a slave is extremely arduous, yet some have natural advantages which allows for greater benefits and an easier life. Several factors play a role in a slave's lifestye and duties. These include:
1. Who is their master.
2. Which province does the slave reside in.
3. Is the slave male or female.
4. What race is the slave.
Human slaves have it the worst. Most humans are forced to work in difficult and often harardous concitons, such as in mines, digging trenches, building walls, or in the fields. They are fed just enough to keep them working, while being housed together with large groups of other slaves-often without proper ventilation and sanitation. Humans are known to reek with the pungent odor of excrement and sweat. A typical human slave owner has underlings give orders to his slaves, preferring to avoid the foul creatures whenever possible. Other owners enjoy tormenting, beating or even killing human slaves out of pure hatred for the raace. Humanoids also serve as slaves in many provinces. These slaves receive similar treatment, but are garnered a bit more respect, and also entertain the possibility that they may one day buy their freedom. Many of the humanoid slaves were captured in one war or another, then imprisoned and allowed to survive in exchange for slavery. It is common for these slaves to work within citizen's homes as servants, as well as to fight in the gladiator or arenas. Another type of servant, kobolds, also quite often find themselves prisoner of slavers or bounty hunters. The dogmen are lazy slaves, but their inherent cowardlyness makes them easy to control and manipulate. They are also quite popular in the arena, where they make easy victims for the peoples' chosen champions. Female slaves usually serve as concubines until they become undesireable, at which point they are transformed into house servants or are taken to work in the fields. When a slave is born or captured, they are marked with a premanent magical tatoo which signifies their status as a slave. This mark is placedd on the forehead by a high level mage, and will only be removed if the slave is given their freedom. Most often the mark depicts the slave owner's personal brand, which makes the slave easier to identify.Such brands could include the white skull demonstrating they are the property of the city of Deadlan, or a red helment show the slave to be owned by "joe" the Oathtaker. |
