My Recommendations-
For beginners I recommend you start out by learning a soul grind, it's the simplest grind and you can do it with any pair of skates. I would recommend you use a pair of Roces or K2's. Only use the K2's if you don't plan of doing any really big air tricks because on many styles of K2's the boot isn't too strong and you can injure your ankles easily. I really like to use skates that have a flat grinding sole. So more area of the boot is touching the rail when you grind, it helps you control your speed. Start out slow, try grind on the lowest rail on a bike rack, then you can try things like lunch tables, benches, whatever you can find. The order I suggest you learn your tricks is: soul, mizzou, frontside, and backside. Those are the basic tricks, once you learn those it shouldn't be too much work learning anything else.
