Robert May Simmers (b 3/24/1845 - d 5/2/1934 to Daniel W Simmers and Julia Guest) married Mary Elizabeth Jones (b 9/1848 - d 1/26/1920).
They were married on February 11, 1869 at the bride's parent's house by Rev. Joseph W. Porter, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Phoenixville.
Robert died at his daughter, Mrs. Andrew Malin's Residence.
Robert and Mary are buried at Zion Lutheran Church, Spring City, Pennsylvania
Robert was Commander of Post 45 and Commander of Josiah White Post, G.A.R. of Phoenixville
He served in the Civil War. Wounded in battle at Fair Oaks and his shoulder was affected.
He served in 13 major battles, including Yorktown, Williamsburg, Chicahomony, Fair Oaks, Seven Pines, Chancellorsville, Savage Station, Seven Day Battles, Malvern Hill, Harrison's Landing, Second Bull Run, South Mountain, First Fredericksburg.
At Fredericksburg he contracted typhoid fever.
Wounded at the battle of South Mountain in 1862.
He served three years and three months and was discharged on September 14, 1864.
He retired from the PA Dept. of Agriculture on June 15, 1925 where he was the Pure Food Agent
