These are reports of from kids who have been to Nature's Classroom if you have a report then send it to me. This is a report I made.
Monday
When we arrived on Monday we met Hanna on our bus (There were three busses. Two transportation busses, one luggage)who said that we did not have to do the luggage line because the school bus was parked right next to the recreation hall due to the rain. So instead Hanna led us to the other side of the recreation hall where we met Larry and played Dragons Treasure. After the luggage was unloaded we all grouped up by cabin and brought are stuff to there after we found out who everyone is. The people who brought us to our cabins were Larry and Brian. They told us how they were brothers and they also told us about the rules of the cabin, and conserving heat, hot water, and energy. They also told us what to do in case of fire. Right after the speech about fire we had a fire drill. We headed toward the lunch hall and learned about the rules of the lunch table. We then were called in the lunch hall by table number. At our table we learned about the salad bar and the peanut butter and jelly bar. Another we learned about was waitrons. Waitrons is a Natures Classroom word that means waiter. We then had to sign up for waitron duty. Then we had pizza for lunch. I also went to the salad bar. After lunch was done we learned about the Ort Report. Ort is food that we put on are plate and did not eat. They would weigh to see if we were making the right choices. Are weight for Monday's lunch was 2 and a half pounds. After lunch we then went to cabins for a short transition time and then to the cafeteria to find out are field group leader and have field group. Are field group leader was Nicky. She is from England. She told us how she broke her leg and has to go to Therapy. Then she tried to find out are names of every kid in our group. After, we played a game of Tribuluescense where we hid and tried to not become found. We then signed up for classes. I chose Grossology for a class. After field group we had a short transition time. Then I went to Grossology who was taught by Adam. In Grossology we learned about how boogers protect us from germs, but if the germs get by the boogers than they are stopped by antibodies, and if they get past the antibodies the germ has to fight the white cell. After we learned that we played a game that showed us how it worked. We also learned about blisters and are dermis and epidermis. When we were finishing up class we made fake blisters. We had also made gelatin snot for dinner. After class we headed to our cabins for transition time and then dinner. When we were entering the cafeteria I held the door so I got an IALAC bead. You get an IALAC bead when you are doing a good deed. At dinner we ate macaroni and cheese. I also had a salad from the salad bar, then my gelatin snot from Grossology class and Jell-O for desert. We had 3 and a half pound weight for ort Mondays dinner. I thought the dinner and lunch were both good meals. Larry said that if we made it to the lodge before 7:30 that night for the dance. We went to the cabins for transition time and then left early for the lodge. Every one was there early so Larry wore a dress to the dance. At the dance we listened to stories that the counselors made up to go with the dances that we did. One of the funniest parts was when we did the dance that we had to freeze when the music went off. If we moved when the music was off the person who moved would be out. The hard part was that the counselors tried to make us move by doing funny things. After the dance was done we had a quiet sing and then went back to our cabins for the night. In our cabin at night he told us a couple of jokes. Then we went to bed. I liked today and I do not feel homesick at all.
Tuesday
On Tuesday morning we went to the cafeteria to have French Toast with syrup for breakfast. For Tuesdays breakfast ort we had less then a pound. After breakfast we had field group. During field group we signed up for classes. I signed up for Science Explosions with Nicky. We then played Tribolumenesence and walked around until we stopped at a truck that was stuck in water from the rain. We pushed the truck out of the water and headed to the lodge. At the lodge we joined up with a different field group and played the Game of Life. After we played the Game of Life we did Natures Classroom Sumo Wrestling. After we played Sumo Wrestling we headed to our cabins for transition time and then to lunch. At lunch we had chicken Patties and fries. Tuesdays Ort Report was another close to zero report but it was about an 8th of a pound. Since it was Tuesday we got to have two classes that day. So after lunch we met with our field groups and signed up for classes once we were done we headed to our cabins for transition time. After transition time we went to our classes. I went to Science Explosions where we saw a lot of awesome science tricks. One of the tricks was to make a can crush without even touching it with your fingers. It started where you got an empty can of soda put water in it and then with tongs we put it over an open flame and let the water boil. When the water was done boiling we flipped the can over very fast into a bowl of ice water. Right when the can hi the ice water the can crushed. Another trick we did was watch a tea bag fly in the air after we burnt the whole thing. We also played with magic mud. The reason why it was called magic mud was that when you rubbed it in your hands it would be solid but when you stopped rubbing it turned into a liquid. We learned a trick about something that helps you see well. One the of the last tricks we did was that we set fire to a twenty-dollar bill but it did not burn. The trick was to put the bill in some water and let it get wet. Then let it get just a little wet with rubbing alcohol, then light it on fire. The bill would be on fire but it would not burn to ash because the water was blocking it from burning. Near the end of class we had a chance to win a twenty-dollar bill. If we could hold are feet and jump over the twenty-dollar bill without letting go of our feet then we go keep it, but it was scientifically impossible. When class was over we headed to our cabins for transition time. After are transition time I went to Adams Mega Structures class. In Adams class we rolled newspapers up and made them little tubes. When we had 60 rolled up newspapers we started making little pyramids once we made ten little pyramids together we combined them together to make one giant one. In that class we learned that the triangle was one of the strongest shapes in nature. Our pyramid stayed in the dining hall until we left. After class we went to our cabins for another transition time. After the transition time we headed to the cafeteria for dinner. At dinner we had some tacos. I think all the meals we had today were very good. Tuesdays dinner Ort Report was a quarter of a pound. We then went to our cabins to get ready for the night hike. When we were prepared to go we went to the lodge for the night hike. At the lodge we sang a few songs. Then we heard a story that helped anyone who had a fear of the dark. We then started are night grouped up in our field groups. In our field group we played a game of bat and moth. Then we went to a dark shed where we learned a trick on how to make someones head disappear. We also learned about the cones in our eyes and about tribolumenesence. Another that we learned was that lifesavers make light, quartz rocks rubbed together made light, and how we painted our nails with glow in the dark nail paint and made a pretty neat picture when all of are right thumbs painted. Then we finished night hike by being brought to our cabins.
I think that day was very interesting especially the Science Explosions class.
Wednesday
Wednesday morning started with breakfast where we had eggs and bacon. I also went to the cereal bar and had some Rice Kirspies. We ended breakfast getting 0 ort.
We then met with our field group to sign up for classes. I signed up for International sports with Kim. After we signed up for classes we had a short transition time. Then we went to our classes. In International Sports we learned all the basics and history about cricket. We learned the reason why cricket isnt too popular in the US because it was taught during war. Afterwards we played a real game of cricket. Our team beat the other team in a close game the final score was 29 to 43 our victory. I had fun in that class. We then went to our cabin for daily transition time. Then we went to lunch with are field group and had assorted sandwiches that we could make. After lunch we headed to the field to play a couple of different games and broke a Natures Classroom record for electricity. Then after the games we started are afternoon hike. We learned some environment rules such as what you pack in you pack out, and leave the trail there is do not go off the trail and make the trail bigger. When we were walking up we tried to figure out a riddle. When we got to the top we saw all the beautiful scenery and learn some interesting facts about rock formation on the mountain. After we had a snack and heard the interesting information we headed back to the camp. After some transition time after the hike we went to dinner. At dinner we had I had chicken, mashed potatoes, and some salad from the salad bar. Once again we got 0 ort at dinner. I think most of the meals were good except breakfast. The bacon tasted a little funny, and the eggs werent good with cheese After dinner we headed to our cabins to get ready to go on the Underground Railroad. We then got on our jackets and headed for the recreation hall for some facts about the Underground Railroad. We learned how serious it actually was. When all the information was told we were on our way on the Underground Railroad. We bumped into a slave catcher and did not get caught. We went to different places avoiding the slave catchers and made it through the mud and woods to a safe house where the sheriff and her deputy came in looking for us, but we were so quiet we didnt get caught at all. After the safe house we were on are way to Canada. (a.k.a. the lodge) When we got there we listened to a couple of stories about slaves. When everyone made it to Canada we had are quiet sing. After are quiet sing we headed to our cabin and went to sleep.
I think today was a pretty good day. We had some good exercise, we had fun classes and a good night activity.
Thursday
This morning started off with us headed to the cafeteria for some breakfast. Today we had pancakes for breakfast. They were so good are asked for 15 more pancakes when we had seconds. Today for ort we had nothing. After breakfast we met with our field group to practice are Thursday Night Live skits. We did are skits in what appeared to be a house. Are skit was commercial advertising Fat Fast. It started where we would walk out with pillows or to make are stomachs bulge. Then we said what are weight used to be then we would tell how much it is now. After we had practiced are skit we went to a place near the lodge and went on to a rope swing across some ground. We were on bad island before, but if we crossed on the rope swing without touching the ground and staying on the log that brought us over to Candy Island. If you didnt stand on the log or touch the ground everyone would have to start over. Then, after we were done doing that, we headed over to the Birm a Bridge to climb it. After we were done walking on the bridge we signed up for classes. I signed up for Mini Structures with Kim. After we signed up for classes we headed to our cabins for transition time. After transition time we went to lunch and I was the waitron for todays lunch. We had some corndogs with tatter tots. Since we got 0 ort again for lunch, we got challenged by Larry. He said if we got 0 ort all the other times, he would shave off his beard. After lunch was over we went to cabin transition time then to our classes. I went to Mini Structures where I once again learned that the triangle is the strongest shape in nature. After we were told that I had a building contest to see whose building was the highest. My building won, but the only problem was that I didnt build supports on the building so it kept falling down. We then made a town with every building we made. We also labeled the town map with are building names. My buildings name was the Leaning Tower of Michael. After our classes we had a short transition time to get ready for Predator/Prey. We started out by heading to the lodge finding out what animal we would be. I was a stink bug with Bryan. The rules of the game was that we had to get food, water and shelter for our group to survive. The other animals such as snakes, frogs and hawks would try to tag our group in a little bit of time. When we started we got attacked by a few groups catching some of us. When we were down to the last three kids, and the last thing we needed me and some other kid got caught so we had to join the frogs. Since there were no other kids in the group besides one kid we all had to go to the bull frogs. We helped the bullfrogs get all the things they needed to have. Then we ran into the hawks where I just missed getting tagged by one because I ran in the river. After we were done getting attacked by the hawks the game was over because time was up. We then went to the lodge where we learned about pesticides and how bugs reproduce fast so they do not get extinct. After that we headed to our cabins for transition time. When transition time was over we went to dinner and had roast beef with some salad from the salad bar. When we got 0 ort again Mr. Allen, one of our chaperones, said that he would also shave off his beard if we got 0 ort the rest of the time we were here. After dinner we had transition time to get ready for Thursday Night Live. At Thursday Night Live the counselors did a couple of funny skits as well as some other kids from different field groups. We did our fat skit. Im not sure what people thought about the fat skit. Then we saw a skit by our teachers and chaperones that we thought was funny. After Thursday Night Live we had a quiet sing and went to bed.
I thought today was a pretty fun day, but Im getting a little tired and Im losing my voice so Ill be ready to just get home and relax.
Friday
On Friday we had to get up early and pack. Lucky for me I packed a lot the last night. After the packing was over we had eggs and bagels for breakfast. We had 0 ort again and we could tell Mr. Allen and Larry were scared. After are breakfast we went to our cabins to clean them up with Larry and Bryan. We had to pick up a lot of things off the ground because Bryan said the vacuum did not work well. We also sprayed are beds with green stuff and brushed off all the dirt on them. After we cleaned the cabins for a quick and easy survey. After the survey we had are last field group. At field group are field group leader gave us IALAC beads to keep. After she gave us the IALAC beads, she us the story called the giving tree. Then we learned a few tricks that we could do. She taught us if we bit and held are finger nails for ten seconds it would sting when stopped biting. We also played Tribolumenesence two times. After field group was over we had the buffet for lunch. I had a corndog, some macaroni with sauce, and some salad. When lunch was over we found out that we had 0 ort! So Larry and Mr. Allen had to shave off their beards. Everybody took pictures and some of us were laughing. Then we went the recreation hall while we were piling chairs in the cafeteria. In the recreation hall we (the bus I was on) had to do the luggage line because we played a game in the beginning. Once we were done packing we said are final good-byes and went on the bus. When we were leaving we shouted I want to be a Natures Classroom counselor. The bus ride went by quick and when we arrived a the school everyone participated in the luggage line. I waited a while when the luggage line was done and then went home with my mom. I think this was the best week of my life. I think its good that we had our Natures Classroom experience in sixth grade. Because in sixth grade you meet a lot of new people.
