Goku is the main character in both DragonBall and DragonBallZ.
He is one of the last Saiyans existing.
Goku was adopted by an old man called Gohan.
After Goku hit his head by falling off a mountain he forgot his'program' to destroy the Earth. After this he became a 'good' saiyan but still having the desire to fight.
After Kame learnt that Goku will turn into a huge gorilla while looking at a full moon reacted by his tail, His tail got permanently cut off.
He was the 1st saiyan to become a Super Saiyan in over 3000yrs.
He turned into a super saiyan after he was furious at Frieza when Frieza was defeating Gohan and Piccolo.
At the beginning Goku was a weakling, even his son had a higher power level than him! After he died and was trained by King Kai, he was strong enough to be in the Saiyan elite at top Power Level 45000.(Using Kaeyoken times4)
This is nothing compared to what he became after he trained hard for 6 days in the capsule while going to Namek. Top power Level 180,000!!!
After the first time he became a SuperSaiyan during Frieza battle he was 3,000,000
In the Cell Saga Goku dies again but is revived.
To defeat Cell Goku and Vegeta fuse to make Vegeto.At Power Level 9,000,000!
In the Buu Saga Goku and Vegeta fuse to become Gogeta.
 Gohan is the 1st son of Goku and Chi-Chi. Named after his 'grandfather' Gohan is the strongest non-merged character. He represents the amazing strength of Saiyan and Human. He defeated Vegeta in the Saiyan saga and defeated Cell in the Cell saga. Gohan is the first Saiyan to reach SuperSaiyan2. He learnt how to become Mystic-Gohan.
Gohan starts out as a weakling, scared of violence and his enemy. He showed Nappa the Kick of a lifetime. Later on Gohan goes to about where Vegetas power level is and have an intense fight.
Gohan and Piccolo gain a special bond with each other. Gohan does all he can to wish Piccolo back.
Gohan got all the power he could get in the Cell game when Gohan unleashed a Kame-Hame-Ha upon Cellcausing it to kill him only because Goku put more confidence in him then himself.After the Buu Saga Gohan fullfills his mums dreams of becoming a scholar.
Piccolo is the strongest Nameks in the universe. Once Goku's arch enemy Piccolo allied with Goku to defeat Raditz. Piccolo sacrifices himself when Nappa used an attack to kill Gohan to protect Gohan.
Never remembering his home planet and what he was, Piccolo went to Namek and merged with Nail and got the ultimate power. After that he had to fuse with Kami so that he became stronger.
Trunks is the son of Vegeta and Bulma. He reached the SuperSaiyan technique at a VERY young age. He has a blade he uses in fights. He is the only saiyan purple hair because of Bulma unless in SuperSaiyan. Trunks cuts Cyber-Frieza in half. Trunks fuses with Goten to turn into Gotenks.Trunks plays a major role in The series and becomes very strong after going back in time.
Goten is the second son of Goku.
Goten is an almost complete replica of Gokus young self.
He reached Super Sayain at the age of 5 totally surprising his big brother, Gohan.In fact he's the first ever Saiyan to become a Supersayian naturally.
He became one as he was training.
Krillin is the probably the strongest Human alive. He was Goku's best friend all the way from the beggining. He's a bald, short man. He is usually underestimated by his size.
Krillin is determined in what he's doing and will always make the right decisions.
In DragonBall/Z/GT he has the record of dying the most times.
Vegeta is one of two full Saiyans left in the universe. He first came to Earth to find the DragonBalls. When he arrived he and Nappa had a battle between the Z fighters. When Gohan and Goku (With help from Krillin and Yajarobe) defeated Vegeta Goku let him off. They found him in Namek and allied. Vegeta then becomes a permanent friend of Goku. After this Vegeta marries Bulma. Bulma was the first to 'tame' Vegeta.
He may act like he hates Goku but deep inside he also 'cares'.
Vegeta is jealous of Gokus powers and also admires and is impressed by it.
Vegeta finally became a SuperSaiyan in the Cell saga. Bulma then invents a gadget that enables Vegeta reach SuperSaiyan4.
Bulma is probably the most irritating, smartest and most shown Female around.
She was in love with Yumcha and then went off and married Vegeta.
She was scared out of the brains when she saw Vegeta in the beggining but now it looks like that Vegeta's scared of her. Bulma was also the first person to 'tame' Vegeta.

Chi Chi is Goku's wife and mother of Gohan and Goten.
Chi Chi is a very worrying mother and husband. She's was first shown in the original DragonBall series and when Chi Chi asked if Goku'll marry her Goku replied 'Why not?' Chi Chi wants her two sons very smart (She sort of succeded).
