Issue #64

Hi readers. I continue to feel patriotic and in the mood to continue to fight against terrorism, but I also continue to believe that our fight is God's fight too. So I am asking you all to bear with me if I continue to show my country's colors. I am not forgetting that the rest of the world is fighting the same war with us. God bless you. Let's go to:

GUEST CONTRIBUTIONS
STORY TIME
SACRIFICE HAS GREAT REWARDS
Sent by Sharon Rose Written by Donna Pilkey

Today, while I was at work, a woman came in and asked me to mix her three gallons of paint. I have watched this same woman, for the last ten years, bring her son with her to the store. Her son is now 12. He is always in a stroller, due to major mental and physical challenges. I hate the word disability really, so I choose to refer to it as a challenge.

As I mixed her paint, I watched her son, who has always hand moments where he suddenly screams and jerks around. As he sucked his pacifier, he played with some small thing in his hands. My heart nearly exploded. For years I have fought the urge to say something to this woman. For years I have wanted to say so many things. After I got her paint ready, I asked if I could help her carry it out. She said no, that she thought she could manage. Now, remember this is a woman with a 12 year old son in a stroller, three gallons of paint, and no shopping cart with just her two hands. Again I asked her if I could help her, assuring her that I didn't mind at all. She smiled and said, "What if someone else comes needing paint?" My reply to her was, "They will wait." She accepted my offer.

As we walked to the front of the store, I mustered up a bit of courage and, fighting a nervousness inside of me, I looked at her and said that I wanted to say something to her, and that she could smack me if she wanted, but that I had something I needed to say to her. Keep in mind, I do not know this woman personally. I have seen her many times, yes, but we are not acquainted. She smiled and said, "Okay". With my newly found courage, I looked at her and said, "I admire you". She smiled again and asked, "Why?"

I explained to her that I admired her for bringing her son with her so many times, not matter how difficult: no matter what other people thought or how they stared. I explained to her that so many people would not be so brave. We laughed some and talked about the things her son would do at times. She shared with me that when her son was very small that she had prayed to God to spare his life, no matter what life it was, because she loved him. She shared that her and her husband did all they could to make him comfortable for the time God allowed them to have him. Or, as she put it, "for whatever time he has to be with us." Choking back tears, I looked at her and pointed to the boy and said, "Those are the special ones." She again smiled and agreed.

After her merchandise was paid for, I carried it to her vehicle. "ME", still trying to help HER. We continued to talk about her son. About how he had, just the other day, broken his first jar of food in a grocery store. We laughed as she told how he would pull tags off clothes on racks if she put him too close. In the end I put her stuff in her vehicle and she looked at me and said, "Thank you". She went on to say that few people were ever so nice, and very few ever offered to help her.

The MORAL of the story........ No, the moral is not for me to be bragging on my good customer service. Not at all. This is a story about many things, but it is not about myself. This morning, my only thought was to help this woman carry out her paint, because for her, it clearly was going to be difficult. I just wanted to help. As we said goodbye, I realized that she had helped me far more than I helped her.

She reminded me that sacrifice has great rewards. She reminded me that we can be overcomers. Not only that, she reminded me that though we want to try to make it on our own, that it is ok to accept help. And in the end, she reminded me to be thankful. As it was, I was seeking to bless her in some small way, and she blessed me immeasurably.

POETRY CORNER
IT'S TIME TO LOVE AND CARE
By Fred D. Jarvis

What would you think of a life guard
Who always joked around,
And wouldn't lift a finger
To help a child who drowned?

What would you think of a fireman
Who wouldn't move an arm,
In spite of smoke and blazes
And loud and long alarm.

What would you thing of doctors
Who let their patients die,
Or mothers so hard hearted
They let sick babies cry.

These things can't be imagined!
And neither is it right
For us to hoard the gospel
And monopolize the light.

Our Solemn obligation
Is far beyond debate.
Let's quickly spread the Gospel
Before it is too late!

We must not let them perish!
It's time to give and share,
And show the lost and dying
How much we love and care.

FROM THE WORD OF GOD

Matthew 5:5 "Blessed are the meek, for they
shall inherit the earth."

It is time to get back to talking about the Beatitudes which I started to do a few weeks ago. This one is particularly appropriate considering the state of the world at this time. You may think that this particular Beatitude calls on us to be weak, but that is not true. Common sense may tell us that only the aggressive and ambitious could inherit the earth, but Jesus is talking about an attitude-a very spiritual attitude.

Jesus is telling us that we cannot force ourselves or others to change. Meekness is necessary to gain understanding of yourself and others, and this comes about when we get our ego out of the way and keep ourselves from forcing our thoughts and emotions into a pattern in an effort to progress. We must foster the following traits in ourselves if we are to progress spiritually:
First we must be patient and wait for Jesus to show us how to change. This is hard because when we begin to develop a relationship with Him or even with someone else, like friends or family, as soon as it shows progress and we get excited and want to move ahead as quickly as possible. Then when it doesn't go the way we think it should, we get frustrated or angry and maybe even annoyed. This kind of pushiness can have a very negative effect We have to remember our limitations and also remember who is our guide. Satan tend to tell us that our lack of progress is because we are weak .
Secondly-Meekness suggests that we should be open to life, accepting the risk of being hurt or disappointed. Too often we overprotect our feelings not trusting God or friend or family to deal fairly with us. We shut ourselves away so that we don't get hurt instead of accepting the disappointments that make us strong in the power of God's might.
Finally- Meekness suggest a willingness to be led. If we are continually anxious or trying to push forward with ambition, we will not feel the guiding nudges and God's still small voice will not be heard. Spiritual meekness asks us to surrender our own absolute power over our lives and give it to the Lord. We must recognize that our egos do not have the answer to all our problems and be willing to wait patiently, be open to the still small voice of God, and allow Him to lead us through the trials of this life, searching and praying for His gentle nudge instead of looking for a surge of powerful emotions.

This past few weeks has shown us what happens when we give in to emotional power over ourselves. We become angry and brutal. We allow the emotion to get us carried away on satan's roller coaster ride of anger and frustration resulting in vengeance and hatred for our fellow man. The peace of mind leaves us and in it's place is evil. I am praying for all of us.

Dear Lord, Help us to recognize Your voice. Give us the willingness to turn our struggles over to You. Helps us to rest in Your promise of peace and love. Lord, we pray for these persons in our world who are so filled with hatred and fear that they strike out at the innocent. We pray for someone to be in their lives that will lead them to Your truth. Help them to remember that all your prophets have said that they are to Love one another, that they are not to harm a fellow human being. Lord, give our leaders Your gentle nudge so that they all turn to You in submission and faith. Thank You for loving us so much that You allowed Your Son to pay the price for our sinful existence.
In His Blessed Name. A-men
