description: My Fire Pokémon can bring down almost every Pokémon in one hit, but I am worried about my Pokémon running out of Energy and fighting against Water Pokémon. So I put in 3 Zapdos, but is it enough? My normal Pokémon are not strong, but they are good for getting my strong Pokémon up fast. Cleffa can draw new and better cards for me. I added Focus Band cards so my weak Pokémon have a chance at living. Super Scoop Up cards will get my strong Pokémon out of trouble. I hope to get tips from you.

Gengar says you need the power of purple, but Gengar always says that. He also says you need one more card in your deck to make 60 cards, which is always good news! J D Gloom and I recently were kicking around an idea for a deck similar to this one using Base Set ElectaBuzz and the Base Set Charizard. We have named it "Turbo Boost" or, like Gengar likes to call it, "Buzzard." I'm going to recommend some radical changes to this deck based on that concept and the use of Boost Energy and Charizard. You can take all of these suggestions, Andrew, or just grab the parts you like for your deck! Just keep in mind that if you do some of the card substitutions, your deck won't be eligible for Modified play.

Tweaking the Deck

Let's start with the Pokémon. I like the Bench damage potential of the Zapdos. What worries me about that Pokémon, though, is the 30 damage it takes for a result of tails and the cost of 3 Energy. I recommend changing Zapdos out for Base Set Electabuzz. Electabuzz can hit the first round and possibly cause the Defending Pokémon to become Paralyzed, as well. Next I would get rid of the Dragonair and Dratini cards and replace them with the Aquapolis set Sentret and Furret cards. Furret's attack is not bad and its Pokémon Power lets you search for Special Energy cards. Finally I would put in Base Set Charizard as your big hitter.

So, I would drop these Pokémon:
2 Charmeleon (Legendary Collection)
1 Charizard (Expedition)
1 Shiny Charizard (Neo Destiny)
4 Dratini (Legendary Collection)
2 Dark Dragonair (Legendary Collection)
3 Zapdos (Promo)

I would add these Pokémon:
3 Charizard (Base Set)
3 Electabuzz (Base Set)
3 Sentret (Aquapolis)
3 Furret (Aquapolis)

Now let's take a look at the Trainers. I'm going to take out the Energy Restore cards and add Power Charge to get back the Special Energy cards I'm adding. I think you also can benefit from some more card drawing, so I'm going to add some cards there, as well.

Take out these Trainers:
3 Energy Restore (Expedition)

I would add these:
2 Copycat (Expedition)
1 Pokémon Breeder (Legendary Collection)
2 Pokémon Nurse (Expedition)
4 Power Charge (Expedition)
2 Professor Elm (Neo Genesis)
1 Town Volunteers (Aquapolis)

Now on to the Energy! Here is where this deck really benefits. It can become extremely fast with the addition of Boost Energy and it becomes easier to retreat with Warp Energy.

So, take out these cards:

16 Fire Energy

Add these cards:
4 Boost Energy (Aquapolis)
10 Lightning Energy
4 Warp Energy(Aquapolis)

Here is what the final deck looks like.

Dynamite Deck

Pokémon (19)
4 Charmander (Legendary Collection)
1 Charmeleon (Legendary Collection)
3 Charizard (Base Set)
2 Cleffa (Neo Genesis)
3 Electabuzz (Base Set)
3 Sentret (Aquapolis)
3 Furret (Aquapolis)

Trainers (23)
2 Copycat (Expedition)
3 Focus Band (Neo Genesis)
3 Gold Berry (Neo Genesis)
3 Pokémon Breeder (Legendary Collection)
2 Pokémon Nurse (Expedition)
4 Power Charge (Expedition)
2 Professor Elm (Neo Genesis)
3 Super Scoop Up (Neo Genesis)
1 Town Volunteers (Aquapolis)

Energy (18)
4 Boost Energy (Aquapolis)
10 Lightning Energy
4 Warp Energy(Aquapolis)

Okay, Andrew, this is how this thing works! Use the Electabuzz as your first hitter. Get that Defending Pokémon Paralyzed and buy yourself some time. Get the Charmander going as soon as possible, and don't even think about attacking with it if you have no Fire Energy! Attach 1 Lightning Energy to the Charmander, and then use Pokémon Breeder to evolve it into the Charizard. On turn 2 it is possible to attach a Boost Energy to it then use Energy Burn to change it into Fire Energy and then use Fire Spin to cause 100 damage. You have to discard 2 Energy cards to do that, so discard the Boost Energy that you have to discard at the end of your turn anyway and one of the Lightning Energy cards. Use Warp Energy to retreat the Charizard or use the Super Scoop Up cards to get you out of trouble until you can power Charizard up again. The Furret's Pokémon Power can get the Special Energy cards from your deck, and the Power Charge can put used Boost Energy and Warp Energy cards back in your deck. Use Pokémon Nurse to take the damage off a Charizard with no Energy on it!

You might need some help getting basic Energy back into your deck, but I think this deck has some real potential! Good luck, and thanks for the deck, Andrew.
