The inside was almost completely dark, except for a small dimlit candle. There wasn't much except for a table with the candle, meat and bone scraps, and little bed made of leaves and twigs. "Hmmmm," Daina said, "I wonder how we can kill this thing." "Kill?" I asked in surprise. I just wanted to get away from it, not kill it. "We have to," Daina said, putting a hand around my shoulder. "D-daina," I stuttered. The Midnight Wolf bursted into the hut, clearly steaming mad. "Run!" I wanted to say, but it was blocking our only exit. Daina thought quickly and grabbed the candle aiming it towards the wolf. It looked afraid, and took a step backward, but then Daina stepped forward. Though it was only one movement of the feet, it was backed out of the hut. Daina motioned for me to stand with her. I gulped as she lit the hut on fire. Thw wolf actually roared and tried to blow out the fire. Daina and I ran as fast as we could to where the ship was. I gasped. It was gone! It was on its way to the amusement park! "What do we do?" I asked Daina. She waved her hand at me. "Earth to Claudia- the wolf has I boat I saw. Geez, you don't have to get so freaked out." "Yea I do!" I protested. "You act like this happens every day!" Daina shurgged. "In a way, this is what you wanted, you know?" I thought about that. I never wanted to be a weird wolf's victim, but I knew what she meant. All the time when I saw alien and horror movies and things like that, I was always like in my head, "Why do these cool things happen to them? Why not me? It would make life more interesting!" And now, I was totally regretting it. Daina led me to the boat. It was a small little thing, with only two oars. Just sitting in it could probably break it! "Hurry up, Claudia!" Daina shouted. "I'm not going in there!" I exclaimed. She sighed. "Don't you trust me?" I snorted. "Oh, come on, fraidy cat Claudia,: she said, and pulled me into the boat, handing me an oar. I didn't make a sound and started to row. "Darn," Daina suddenly said. "He's catching up to us!" I dropped my oar. I didn't even know he was chasing us in the first place! Daina sighed. "Claudia! Look what you did. Now we only have onw oar! How stupid can you get?!!" I pressed my lips together. Daina was acting awfully bossy- as usual. "Well, don't just sit there!" she yelled. "OKay, okay," I mumbled, and started to row with my hand. (That didn't help much, no offense to Daina. Wait a sec, lots of offense to Daina!) "None taken," Daina muttered. I doubletaked. Daina sheepishly smailed. "IT's so easy to read your mind by looking at your face." I smiled evenly and looked back. The Midnight Wolf was practically drowning, so we were almost home free. "Cladia," Daina saod, panting, "this isn't working. Let's row to the coast of this lake." I nodded. "Good idea." Once we reached the grassy lands, Daina pushed the boat forward and we jumped off. "Now what?" I asked."The amusement park isn't for another two miles or more!" Daina shook her head sadly. "Claudia, it's called taking the bus." I blushed. This Midnight Wolf bussiness was getting to me. I followed Daina to the bus stop. "I wonder what happened to the Midnight Wolf," Daina said, as were waiting for the bus. "WHo cares?" I said. "We're away from it." "But what about everybody else?" Daina protested. I snorted (yes, for the second time that day.) "Daina, get a clue. We need to get back to our class. The world doesn't need us to save it." "Whatever," Daina mumbled. The bus came and we hopped on. Daina and I rode in silence. I had nothing to say to her anyway. "What happened to your legs?" Daina asked, suddenly concerned. I winces. "I was getting away from the wold in the closet and well...." My voice trailed off. It was hopeless. We didn't say anything more for the rest of the ride. "Oh, we're here," Daina said quietly, as it appeared into view. We slwoly got off. "CLAUDIA! DAINA!" I heard somebody shout. I turned around. Janet, Elizabeth, and Katherine were running towards us. "Janet!" I creid happily. "Elizabeth! Katherine!" I was so unbelieveably happy to see them. "What happened?" Elizabeth asked as soon as they were near. Daina filled them in with details, while I was just too glad for words. "So how'd you get here and all?" I said, desperetly wanting to change the subject. "We finally got back on track," Katherine explained. "We wanted to tell them to wait for you guys, but no one would listen. When we arrived here, Mrs. Happerel relized Melissa and you guys were missing." "So we said you to just went to the restroom," Elizabeth said. "No one knew where Melissa was, so Mrs. Happerel is sending out a search party." "Everyone is wainting over there for parents to come," Janet said, sheliding her eyes from the sun. Daina's eyes danced. "Did they call our parents?" Elizabeth shook her head. "Good," Daina said. "I'll tell one of the Bumblebees to say we left, while we sneak inside to see the Coolers." "Daina, are you crazy?" I asked, as calmly as I could. "What?" she said. "I thuoght you were game with the plan." I shook my head stressfully. "I was. But really, the Midnight Wolf id out there!" "I thought you wanted to kill it," Daina said, smirking. "I don't!" I said, trying to defend myself. "It's just that we'd be safer if we're all home." Daina laughed dismisively. "Claudia, listen to yourself! Who cares about the Midnight Wolf? We gotta see the Coolers!" "She right, Claudia," Janet said. "So are you coking out not?" Katherine asked impatiently. I sighed, long and hard. I didn't have a choice! "FIne," I said, giving in. "Great!" my friends bursted out. "It's not like I have anything better to do anyway," I mumbled. "Okay, where is Wensy?" Daina asked Katherine. "Ummmm," KAtherine answered. "Uhhhh......" Daina rolled her eyes. "You're lots of help. O wait, she's over there!" We started walking towards Wendy, Kandy, and Tricia. "Hang on!" Daina suddenly said. "Oh my gosh, I think Kandy is.....I can't believe it...wait...but........" "Spit it out, Daina," I said. "Kandy is crying!" Daina exclaimed. "Well, no duh!" I said, annoyed. "How would you feel if you lost your only twin and didn't know what happened to her? No wait, you'd have a party." "Shut up," Daina said, and walked over to Kandy. "Kandy, are you alright?" Daina asked softly. She looked up. "Not really." They talked quietly for a few minutes, while the rest of us watched in awe. Then Daina got up, a little teary eyed. "Okay, guys, let's go." I dropped my mouth open a little in surprise. I never saw Daina talk to a Bumblebee like that. It was nice to know that she could be like that though. We carefully made our way to the gates, making sure Mrs. Happerel or any classmates saw us. After we had entered the park, I gasped in horroe. "What's the matter, Claudia?" Janet asked me, worried. "The Midnight Wolf," I whispered. "He was there." Daina laughed. "Yeah right. You are like SO over reacting!" "He's there," I said, still whispering. "Please believe me, guys." "Claudia-" Katherine started, but she was interrupted by a burst from the bushes. "The Midnight Wolf!" I screamed, joined by my friends. I couldn't move. It grabbed me by the throat. "Noooo!" I managed. No one would help me, they were too shocked and scared. It started to strangle me, and I tried to get away. I then relized that I had no chance. THer was no happy ending.... It bit hard into my arm and blood rushed out.....Two more things- One. I wished that I never made fun of movies and books with happy endings..... owww ... ohhh ....cause I need one right now......owww.....the painnnnnn... The last things is.....no more breath left..... too late.....................I'm sorry Daina.
