SAT

ACT

The ACT and/or SAT are required for admission to most four-year colleges and universities and some two-year institutions. The tests are ,most often taken by students in their junior year of high school. Test scores are submitted to colleges and universities where students are considering enrolling.

The best preparation for the ACT and SAT college assesssment tests, as well as any other pre-college admission test, is long-term preparation. This means taking a solid high school program - courses in English, math, science and social stidies, and taking your school work seriously. Focus on reading effectively so you understand what the author is saying, improving your vocabulary so you can figure out new words from the context in which they are used and developing your problem soling abilities.

BE PREPARED!
Prior to taking the test, you should also focus on short-term preparation. This includes the following specific test-taking tips and techniques:
Know what to expect on test day. Read all the information in your registration packet and follow all instructions carefully.
Take the practice tests that are available through both the ACT and SAT.
Learn how to pace yourself as you work through the test.
Get plenty of rest the night before.
On test day, eat the kind of breakfast that will give you the energy you need for 3 1/2 hours of intense concentration.
Dress comfortably on test day. Some test centers are warmer or cooler on weekends than during the week. Consider dressing in layers so you will be comfortable no matter what the room conditions.
Read the test directions carefully.
Answer the easy questions first.
Guess smart. If you can rule out one or more answer choices as definitely wrong, your chances of guessing the right answer improve.
Don't panic if you can't answer every question.
Omit questions you really have no idea how to answer.

Gaining Points
Your test scores will probably go up a little higher if you take the test more than once. But a gain is not guaranteed. The higher your first test score, the less likely you are to improve and the smaller the improvement is likely to be. Also, taking the test more than a couple of times will not bring about continued score gains=. Improving your overall abilities through long-term preparation can result in higher scores.
