| So what are YOU doing for President's Day? |

| I wasn't planning on writing today, but when yahoo.com alerted to me that it was "President's Day" this mourning, I just couldn't resist writing about another useless holiday. I don't want to bore you people and get too much into why this is another inane holiday, you know, filled with all the typical commercialism, car sales, three day weekends, vacations, cheap memorabilia, decorations, etc. Since this is "President's Day", we can't leave out those OH so important documentaries on C-Span. However, I will mention something I found hilarious when doing some research on this so-called holiday. On January 1st, 1971, The United States Government signed an act into law called "The Uniform Monday Holiday Act". The Act moved Memorial Day, Washington's Birthday, and Veterans Day from fixed dates to designated Mondays and created a new holiday, Columbus Day, which also falls on a Monday. The law was designed to give federal employees more three-day weekends. They basically did this to create "President's Day" and so they wouldn't have to acknowledge Lincoln's birthday and have any more controversyas named by some, "Washington's Day".(Maybe something about being part of the confederacy and "having" slaves would have to do with this? Liberate the people my ass!) But, that's not what I get out of all this mumbo jumbo. The thing I find hilarious is that the government, basically made up holidays from general ideas JUST SO THEY COULD GET MORE THREE DAY WEEKENDS!!!! Hmmm I can see how their thought process was unfolded: *Guy in charge of making lame holidays* "Hmmmm How about we make a day where we honor veterans and all they did for us and our country. It will be another commercialized holiday which we can make millions off of. Oh wait, I got it! We can call it.....wait for it.....Veteran's Day!" *Intern to guy in charge of making lame holidays* "That's genius guy! But, ummm, do we get an extra three day weekend?" *Guy in charge of making lame holidays* "Fuck yeah! Why the hell would we make a new holiday if we couldn't have more day weekends?" Ok, so that's a little exaggerated and they did this all back in the 70s, where commercialism obviously isn't insane as it is today. But still, you know these fuckers were planning ahead. Memorial Day? Columbus day? If these regular days of the week are so important to get their own holiday, then shouldn't they be in our lives every day? Isn't that what history and education is for? I understand that you want to pass down and be able to keep track of history for generations and generations. But are we just going to create a special day whenever something "spectacular" or "Courageous" or "Tragic" happens? If that's the case, then we might as well expand our current calender because I'm sure their will be tons of these type of days happen in our society and world in the future. Are these "important" dates really going to be forgotten? Their just dates. A form of time, created by man. EVERY DAY should be important. Thus, EVERY DAY in a sense, is a HOLIDAY. That's how I see it anyhow. So what am I doing for "President's Day" you ask? Well besides doing absolutely nothing and ranting and *gasp* "bitching" about these "holidays", I thought I'd share some funny "President's Day" videos I found. Enjoy. Later on this week, I'll be talking about the whole "Anna Nicole" situation and it's effect on society.(God, I can go SOOOOO many ways with this) Until then, Prodigy out?
