Two weeks ago on March 11th, Day Light's Savings time came 3 weeks early and a great many of people, who may or may not be retarded(I'm going with the Latter) were concerned.
Some people thought that a mini Y2K might happen. They were saying it could effect anything from stocks, to airline schedules, to even your personal computer and other electronic devices. Software created by this new law mandating the change passed in 2005 is set to automatically advance its timekeeping by one hour on the first Sunday of April, not the second Sunday in March. Congress decided that more early evening daylight would somehow translate into more energy saving.
Well is that so? That's pretty much the most ridiculous thing I've heard since I recently found out that you can now sit on the Easter Bunny's lap at the mall and tell him what you want for Easter. What the hell is that? Apparently a big "Fuck You" to Mr.Clause and another way for 40 year old sick fucks to get a hard on.(Which I don't endorse by any means)
Seriously though, how is this conserving energy? I guess the argument is that energy will be conserved by people having more light in the evenings, then this conservation will be exactly negated by people having to get up in the dark and consuming electricity while going about their daily morning rituals. From that standpoint, Daylight Savings time is completely useless in conserving energy.
Originally, Daylight Savings Time was used for farmers to make their lives easier since they have to wake up early every day. But many farmers oppose it. They just maximize their workday by commencing work when its light enough out and stopping when it gets dark, irrespective of what the clock hands say. Another point, do farmers even exist any more? Any hardcore farmers that is? I'm pretty sure that they make up less then a quarter of a percent of the population and that this old argument is pretty futile.
One more thing that most people don't mention about why Daylight Savings Time is useless. Time is a concept created by man. Day Light Savings Time and the concept of Time Zones were created by man. Clocks were created by men. Watches, sun dials, any measurement used to tell "Time", other than the son, was created by man. So how is pushing a man made concept, "Time", ahead or back an hour suppose to save energy? I don't see it. Time is a tool. A concept. Energy is neither. Time is used to help physics to make accurate predictions about our current world. Take that concept away and theses equations no longer work. So it exists from the standpoint that it is a concept and a tool of measurement in this world. It's just a man made invention to keep track of the Earth's NATURAL cycles.
So with all that being said, Daylight Savings Time is pretty much worthless since people adjust to this "Time" change and doesn't seem to me that it really conserves energy in the grand scheme of things. If I missed something, please let me know. This concept is just mind boggling to me.
With that note, I'll leave you with some funny videos via YouTube about Daylight Savings Time.

This is kind of funny
