| You want em' The Ogre has em' |
Send me your rumors! But they better be good or the Ogre will get mad! And we don't want that now do we?
Now lets get started.
Southend's S.W.I.N.E. may still be a ways off, but another big steel UK coaster is in the works, so we're told:
...according to the Daily Telegraph, a newspaper in London, England. A heading that says a British park [has been] given permission to build "biggest roller coaster in the world". It will be called Odyssey2001 and it will be the star attraction at the Magical World of Fantasy Island in ingoldmells, England. When completed in 2001, the ride will be the world's tallest and longest looping roller coaster, with 4500 ft. of track and loops exceeding 197 ft. The cost 28 million pounds.

More excellent euro-coaster news:
Well I hate to say this, unless B&M is building 4 new coasters in the US and more elswhere, but again as I wrote last week from my lap top, I am in Italy; just visited Gardaland, then went to the bigger park Mirabilandia, and like I said with 2 B&M coasters in the US (Kraken and SFFT's floorless) then we can check off number three. The park confirms it, the new B&M inverted is called "Katun" has 6 inversions and is the largest inverted in Europe.

Yes, Six Flags Fiesta Texas' floorless coaster is well on its way, but the rumor of an SFFT hypercoaster continues to percolate as well:
Well it is confirmed about the floorless, and people are saying there are two colors of supports there, could this be a Giavanola Hyper too? at Fiesta Tx?

Last week, we were informed that Six Flags Great America's Iron Wolf stand-up coaster might move to Six Flags Over Texas. A "current employee" writes to clear up a number of recent SFGAm rumors:
...Iron Wolf is staying right where it is. The park cannot afford another coaster, considering that park attendance was awful this year. The waterpark was going in by the greenhouses (next to Shockwave), so they were tearing everything down after the surveying and marking was done. This is still in the park NOT ACROSS THE TRI-STATE. It finally came down to the wire, and Premier failed to come through with the money. So, there is no waterpark, and the grounds workers have to move back into the greenhouses. Yes, we are getting rid of Sky Whirl. The main bearing is cracked, so once it goes, the park will get rid of it. In it's place will be a new flat ride from Chance Rides. And, Shockwave is on the list of attractions the park wants to get rid of. All of this is straight from the horse's mouth...

The gossip down in Texas seems to further indicate that the Wolf ain't about to roam:
The only problem is that a coaster of Iron Wolf's size simply wouldn't fit anywhere at SFoT. I talked to a very open guard at the park 2 weeks ago, and I asked her what she knew about what's in store for next year and about our upcoming hypercoaster. She said she's afraid that the coaster won't come for another year or so because they have to completely redo the front entrance around the lake where the cars come in. I'm thinking they'll move the entrance to the other side of the lake where the pre-parking exit is now so that they can rip out the current entrance and put the coaster station and such down there. She also said they've been talking about ripping out Air Racer (finally) and putting a new ride there, perhaps a turbo drop or space shot combo like the SCREAM @ SFFT or Supreme Scream @ Knott's. Also, they plan on adding a few flat rides to update the older ones, hopefully ones such as the Sombrero and....well....that's pretty much one of the only flat rides we have! A bunch of flat rides would really do SFoT some good. Also, the family coaster from Zierer sounds likely, it's just a matter of where.

Gettin' back to SFGAm's future, the crystal ball seems to be awfully cloudy:
There have been a lot of weird rumors going around about SFGA so I asked a friend of mine who works there what was going on. Well he said that even the park managers do not know for sure what is going on because Premier is not making any promises to any of their parks. The story starts at the time when all the Mr. Freeze failures were happening. The park went to B&M and signed a three-coaster contract. The order form was a hyper coaster, a launched coaster and eventually a large stand-up coaster. The hypercoaster came first and everything went smoothly. The plans for this year were to create the water park and next year would be the second B&M or even possibly the year after that. Now the water park has been delayed and Premier is supposedly offering a Joker's Jinx coaster for the area where the Clipper is now. The large stand up coaster would come the year after the water park opened. Still the park is fighting for a custom launched coaster and Premier is not very helpful considering the less than huge turn out for Raging Bull...
What is all this about lower-than-expected attendance? After the installation of a B&M hypercoaster? What's the world coming to?!;)

According to these two guest observations, the "new" Six Flags America is still very much a work-in-progress:
On Friday, I visited Six Flags America for a couple of hours. The Alpine Bobs and the Polyp were assembled, but not operating. Superman is still in pieces in the back of the park. The Alpine Bobs are incredibly out of place in Gotham City... why bother spending so much money on extensive theming on the Joker's Jinx only to cram the Alpine Bobs next door?

I just got back from SFA's Fright Fest (formerly known as HallowScream) and had a pretty darn good time! It was "Chrysler Family Night" so the parking lot was half-closed for test drives of new Chryslers. That's creepy enough in itself! Everything is as campy as usual and very family-oriented -- except for one thing: Alice Cooper's Brutal Planet. It takes a lot to scare me (after all I am a thrillseeker) but I can honestly say that I haven't jumped that many times in a haunted house since my childhood. This pay-per-experience event was definitely worth the five bucks I plunked down - especially since the park poured $250,000 on this one high-tech haunted house. It's located next to Two Face: The Flip Side. On to some more goodies:
-- That mystery ride in front of Shipwreck Falls? It's almost done and it's not gonna be much - just a generic octopus-type ride. Very disappointing! Oh well, at least it's going in a place that could definitely use it. The ride most likely will not open this year -- but 2000 is a sure thing.
