Rising from the depths in a frothy rage, Kraken, a mythological sea-beast once held captive by the god Poseidon, will burst onto the scene as Orlando's longest, tallest and fastest rollercoaster. Better still, the Bolliger & Mabillard-designed delight, yet another thrill ride to borrow from ancient legends of gods and monsters, will be the second of that company's revolutionary "Floorless" coasters to open anywhere, following hot on the heels of Six Flags Great Adventure's wild Medusa.
We'll board the multi-hued Kraken after wandering through its lair past see-through eggs containing live eels, the critter's slithery offspring. Diving over the edge of a 149-foot-tall peak, Kraken will scream to a top speed of 65 miles per hour down a 144-foot drop and crank through seven inversions, including a Cobra Roll, a Zero-G Roll and several vertical loops. A good part of the 4,177-foot-long course will rise over a lagoon and we can expect three underground plunges, one of which will take us deep into the beast's subsurface hideout, creating a wave that'll soak bystanders. Very nice!
