| The members of the carp species are the most widely used and well recognized of all fish used in recreational and hobby pond keeping. These fish in their different subspecies can range from worthless for a bucket full, to individual fish being worth thousands of dollars each. | Game fish in a pond is a very controversial subject. In certain areas or jurisdictions it may be permitted while in others it may be totally illegal. Therefore it is best to check with local authorities before going about stocking gamefish in your pond. The same idea applies to taking wild fish from local waterways. Many places allow the use of gamefish but only if they are aquired from a registered hatchery or supplier and are never released to the wild.
