Notes for PEYTON ROBINSON PITTMAN:
Peyton Robinson Pittman was owner of Hix's Ferry on Current River,
Northern AR. Owner of a plantation near Current River. Old town of
Pittman named for him and speculation of him buried in the old
cemetery which is now abandoned and neglected. He was a Doctor, a
postmaster, and first circuit judge of Randolph County.

Dr. Peyton R. Pitman settled at what is now known as the Old Pitman Ferry on Current River about 1811 or 1812. When the county was formed in 1835, he was chosen as the first county judge. He was at one time postmaster at the old Fourche de Thomas post office, and it is possible that he lived at that place even though he owned and operated the ferry and his large plantation.
