Notes: George Bond and wife Jane (Hazelwood) (Some think Jane Tucker) Bond were pioneers of Southern Ill., and came from Maryland about 1814, Thanks to the research of the Bond decendants by James Bond, and others, Donald Cluck and Velma Lucille (Allen) Libby, wife of Charles Logan Libby.

In the very early history of the Bond Family, we find George Sr. and William eldest son, operating a water powered grinding mill on the south side of the North Fork of the Big Saline Creek, commonly known as the Big Creek. It is located 1 mile south of Galatia, IL. Some of the big timbers can still be seen protruding from the south bank. George and Jane owned this tract of land. When George died, Jane sold this land reserving the mill site and 5 acres. William operated the mill after his father died. The grinding stones were made and shipped from England. Stones are 3 feet in diameter. The mill produced mostly flour and meal.

all in T8S R5E containing 140 acres.... and on or about the month of
March 1853, he departed this life intestate seized in fee simple of
the said lands, without having any widow or children or descendants of
children of his body, he the said Stephen never having been married
during his life. That the said Stephen, dec'd, left him surviving his
mother, Jane BOND, he also left surviving him, William, George, Isaac,

John Mac Bond chiseled out a type of tool and stabbed himself several times in the stomack, taking his own life. He was unable to live with pain that he was in. This story was told to us by Donald Eugene Cluck of Gallatin County, IL.
