| $ During the American Civil War the north and south's economies differed greatly. The Confederacy dependant on cotton was desimated by the Union blackade and Confederate money was worth very litte. The Union dollar flourished and made great profits off of selling captured southern cotton. After the march to the sea many of the deep south's railroads were destroyed and with the fall of the Mississippi by 1863 trade was difficult in the southern states. $ |
