Elton John first rocked the airwaves with his own unique brand of rock'n'roll pop in the 1970's. He is one of Britain's biggest-selling artists ever, having had over thirty Top 10 hits, and is a superstar in the true sense of the word.
As well as releasing the Princess Diana tribute song 'Candle In The Wind 1997', Elton John's music is ingrained in the minds of music-lovers. From early hits such as 'Rocket Man', 'Crocodile Rock' and 'Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player' to classics like 'I'm Still Standing', Elton John has always thrilled the crowds with his musicianship and delighted us with his lavish dress-sense.
Elton is also well known for his charity work particularly for The Elton John AIDS Foundation which supports programs dedicated to the prevention of HIV/AIDS and the improvement of care for individuals living with HIV/AIDS. The Foundation's Oscar party is one of the highlights of the Hollywood social calendar. The party must have had special resonance in 1994 when Elton, with Tim Rice, shared the Oscar for Best Soundtrack for the animated film 'The Lion King'.
Since 1994 Elton has donated all the royalties from his singles to charity, and was suitably rewarded by a knighthood in recognition of his tireless fundraising. Sir Elton has been a keen supporter of The Prince's Trust for many years and we are honoured that Sir Elton John will be joining us for Party In The Park 2000.
