Gym Leader: Koga
Pokémon Type: Poison
Pokémon: Koffing, Level 37.
Koffing, Level 37.
Muk, Level 39.
Weezing, Level 43.
Overall, Koga isn't very tough. Bring plenty of Antidotes into this battle, because most of his Pokémon's attacks are poisonous (though you probably figured tGym Leader: Giovanni, leader of Team Rocket! Pokémon Type: Ground/Rock
Pokémon: Rhyhorn, Level 45.
Dugtrio, Level 42.
Nidoqueen, Level 43.
Nidoking, Level 45.
Rhydon, Level 50.
Many of his Pokémon are combined with other types, so bring Pokémon that can defend against many types. Your best bet will be a Grass, Water or Ice type. The Nidoking and Nidoqueen are the toughest of the group, so be careful. Once you defeat Giovanni, you will get the Earth Badge and TM 27. TM 27 teaches Fissuure, a move that may defeat a Pokémon in one hit.
Now that you've gotten all the badges, head west of town to find Victory Road. Gary will stop you and fight you again. Once you defeat Gary, head east and make sure two of your Pokémon know Surf and Strength. A guard will stop you several times along this road to make sure you have the badges. When you have them all, you can go past them all into the cave. Before the cave there is a grassy area where you can catch Pokémon. Ekans (red only), Arbok (red only), Sandshrew (blue only), Sandslash (blue only), Spearow, Fearow, Ditto
You will enter the Victory Road cave, where there will be several trainers and a big maze of rocks and ledges. (You will need at least one Pokémon that knows Strength to continue). Push boulders onto switches to continue. You can also do some last-minute Pokémon catching. Zubat, Golbat, Geodude, Graveler, Onix, Marowak, Machop, Machoke, Venomoth Note that there are two floors. If you can't find a particular Pokémon on one floor, try the other. As you progrss through the cave, you will find the last (and weakest) of the three legendary birds, Moltres. Use the same strategy to catch him as you did the other two.
When you exit the cave, you will be on Indigo Plateau. Go north past all the statues to a small building which is a Pokémon Center and Store. Stock up with plenty of Full Heals and Max Potions, then go through the north exit to the battle with the Elite Four. You will not be able to stop fighting until you lose or defeat all four. Be sure to bring several different types as well. A winning combo could be an Electric type, a Water type, a Psychic type, a Fighting type, a Ghost type, and a Grass type. 1st of Elite Four: Lorelei
Pokémon Type: Ice
Pokémon: Dewgong, Level 54.
Cloyster, Level 53.
Slowbro, Level 54.
Jynx, Level 56.
Lapras, Level 56.
If you have an Electric, Grass, Fire or Fighting type Pokémon, it will be very useful in this battle. Many of her Pokémon use Water attacks as well, so be careful. Once you defeat her, move on to Bruno, the next of the Elite Four. 2nd of Elite Four: Bruno
Pokémon Type: Fighting and Rock
Pokémon: Onix, Level 56.
Hitmonchan, Level 55.
Hitmonlee, Level 55.
Onix, Level 56.
Machamp, Level 58.
A Water, Grass or Fighting(!) type will quickly defeat his two Onix. As for his other three, use Flying or Psychic types. But be careful, because his Hitmonchan can use Ice Punch and Thunder Punch, two powerful attacks. His Machamp can also use Fissure. Move on to the next challenge.
3rd of Elite Four: Agatha
Pokémon Type: Ghost and Poison
Pokémon: Gengar, Level 56.
Golbat, Level 56.
Haunter, Level 55.
Arbok, Level 58.
Gengar, Level 60.
If you have a Psychic type, this will be the quickest battle, because they are all Poison types and thus weak against Psychic power. If not, try a Fire or Ice attack against her Gengars and Haunter, and an Electric attack for Golbat, and a Ground attack for her Arbok. Once you defeat Agatha, move on to the final member of the Elite Four.
Last of Elite Four: Lance
Pokémon Type: Dragon and Flying
Pokémon: Gyarados, Level 58.
Dragonair, Level 56.
Dragonair, Level 56.
Aerodactyl, Level 60.
Dragonite, Level 62.
A Fighting or Ice type will give you a major advantage in this battle. But many of his Pokémon's attacks are very powerful. If you don't have those types, almost anything else will work fairly well. For his Aerodactyl, a Water or Electric attack will take it out. Don't get too excited when you beat Lance, because you have one more challenge ahead. Your rival had beaten the Elite Four before you, and thus you must defeat him to become champion.
Gary attacks with a Pidgeot, Alakazam, and Rhydon. The last three will vary depending on what Pokémon you chose at the beginning of the game.
If you chose Bulbasaur, he will have Exeggutor, Gyarados and Charizard. If you chose Squirtle, he will have Arcanine, Exeggutor and Venusaur. If you chose Charmander, he will have Gyarados, Arcanine and Blastoise. One you defeat Gary, Prof. Oak will show up. He will congratulate you for defeating the Elite Four and say how disappointed he is with Gary. He will then record your Pokémon in the Hall of Fame. But when the credits start rolling, don't turn off the game. When the screen comes to "The End" press a button until the game resets.
Load your saved game. You will be back at Pallet, but otherwise everything else will be normal. Go north of Cerulean City and Surf to the cave that the guy was standing in front of earlier. He will be gone and you will be allowed to enter. You can catch lots of Pokémon here: Arbok (red only), Golbat, Marowak, Ditto, Raichu, Wigglytuff, Dodrio, Sandslash (blue only), Rhydon This cave is a very complex maze. But at the end of it is the Pokémon that destroyed the lab at Cinnabar, the mighty Mewtwo. If you still have that Master Ball, now is the time to use it. If not, you'll have to have a lot of luck to catch him. It's possible to catch Mewtwo without the Master Ball by freezing him, putting him to sleep, paralyzing him, and getting him down to virtually no life. Once you catch Mewtwo, pretty much all there is to do is catch the rest of the Pokémon you're missing. Try fishing everywhere and trade if you can't find another in the game (The two other forms of Eevee, the two other Starting Pokémon, etc.). Also, try talking to other people to find out if they have a Pokémon you can't otherwise find.
