Basic Tips
These nuggets of Yoda's wisdom (spare the comments on Yoda Nuggets, please) should help you survive and get past some key areas.
1) Act like a Jedi! Your lightsaber is nearly always your best friend.. It carves up battle droids, reflects blaster fire, and looks and sounds cool to boot. Also, use Force Push liberally, as it easily disables battle droids while your lightsaber removes their favorite heads.
2) Side step! Side-stepping is crucial to survival, particularly when facing bosses. Don't make yourself a standing target or you'll spend lots of time restoring games.
3) Destroying Destroyers: Aside from bosses and tanks, Destroyer Droids are probably the biggest pain in the Ewok this side of Endor. If you must fight them, there are a couple of tricks which might help improve your survival chances. First, try to blast them while they are still rolling (repeating blasters are good for this). Second, some Destroyers remain stationary after opening. Take advantage of this and empty a blaster into them from long, long range, eliminating their shields, followed by their sorry mechanical butts.
4) Use your resources! Always use tripod mounted blasters for droid turkey-shoots. Use Thermal Detonators and Proton Missile packs sparingly, as they are hard to come by. Also, be careful with Thermal Detonators they blow up real good! Run like heck after throwing, then return and sort carnage later.
5) Push buttons indiscriminately. We met nary a button that didn't help in some way. They open doors, reveal secrets, and give you stuff. There are absolutely no buttons that give wedgies, release poison gas, or drop pianos on you.
6) Talk to everyone! Always exhaust conversation trees, and don't be a pinhead about it. If you talk to a woman weeping over a lost child, and you're choices are 1) "How can I help?" and 2) "Eat Lightsaber!", you should likely choose option 1. Ask for help, ask if you can help, but don't ask for trouble.
7) Be observant! Watch for off-colored panels, crates, and wall sections, as they hide secret items, areas, or even passages to the next area you must reach.
8) Break stuff! Whenever you find stacked crates, push the top one to the floor. They will break, revealing useful items. Bear in mind you can move stacked push-blocks, and you may sometimes need to move push-blocks from one area to another.
9) Save Often! 'Nuff said.
Trade Federation Battleship
This is an easy level assuming you can find your lightsaber with both hands. It's very linear and almost impossible to get lost. Explore freely for useful items!
A droid-whackin' good time
From the negotiation chamber, explore the left and right hand passages, then head down the central path. Follow Qui-Gon when the destroyers come rolling in.
Escape left and follow the tunnel until you fall into the ventilation system. Navigate through here until you crash through the ceiling of a major intersection with several droids. Whip out your best friend (your lightsaber, you sick monkey) and lay waste to them. Enter the room to the right and clear it of droids, then drop to the lower area.
Press the button to open the door. Talk to the alien to learn how to get through the red security door to the hangar. Enter the nearby alcove and destroy the wires on the generator's right side, running like hell as it explodes.
Run out through the red door, saber swinging to block blaster fire. Charge the large droid ship and it will take off don't waste time trying to kill it. Hit the button at the base of the elevator and ride to the top, killing the droid on the platform and escaping through the tunnel.
Follow the tunnel, taking the first right and first left to a button puzzle. All you need to do is hit a button, move to the next, hit it, move to the next, etc., continuing until you've gone full circle. Now run back and go right to a platform. Hit the button and ride the elevator below. Kill any droids waiting for you and run right, continuing until you reach another platform with a button. Press the button to activate the platform.
You'll need to jump from a push-block to get here
Level 2 - Naboo Swamps
Your objective here is to follow your bestest buddy, Jar Jar Binks. As much as I'm sure you'd like to cleave Jar Jar's amphibian butt in twain, you can't, so forget it.
The bulk of this level is made up of jumping puzzles just follow Jar Jar! The first area you'll come to will have Jar Jar standing on a pillar. Move the push-block below into position to get to him.
Continue following Jar Jar. (How does it feel to be his monkey boy?) Eventually you'll come to a pit that you'll need to fill with a push-block. Once you've done that, jump in the pit and push the block to the opposite side. Jump onto it and double-jump to grab the ledge. On the other side you'll need to jump up and grab a line, moving laterally to your right. This is a tricky jump so you might need to make several attempts.
Once you've reached the other side, drop and run across the logs, turning the corner to meet Jar Jar. He'll blithely march into a barrage of droid fire. Now is a good time to make use of any thermal detonators you may have (on the droids, not Jar Jar). Take out the crates along the back wall as quickly as possible they contain destroyer droids. (Tip: Use the heavy repeating cannon to your left!).
Once you've mopped up all the droids, follow Jar Jar and you'll meet up with Qui-Gon, ending the level.
Level 3: Otoh Gunga:
Your objective here will be to rescue Jar Jar, and killing Gungans is prohibited. (Hatred, after all, leads to the dark side.) You'll need to progress to the prison by locating the elevators to the lower levels.
Here's your first brachiation test
Like the previous level, this one is mainly comprised of rudimentary platform jumping and button pressing, with some timing-sensitive sequences thrown in. Fortunately, most of these are only mildly frustrating and not too difficult.
Talk to all Gungans, particularly those that are just standing around, and Force Push your way past any that would block you. You'll also get to make use of your Force Persuasion in certain conversations (the text will appear as a purple selection) to get past characters or convince them to help you. Again, whenever this is an option, use it. One Gungan will have a passkey you need he is three rooms away from the exit point of the first elevator.
Level 4: Theed Palace Garden
Begin by quickly jumping across the floating platforms to the northeast corner. You can also jump into the water and swim to your right, towards another platform. Once there you can run up the stairs and jump into the water again, swimming across to the opposite platform. Don't let yourself get sucked over the waterfall or you'll become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.
You'll have a fair mix of platform jumping and combat on this level, and you'll need to make use of Force Push to activate levers you cannot otherwise reach. Be sure to talk to any rebels you encounter -- they have information (such as a necessary code) and items (power ups) you can use.
We never found out if these fish were hostile...
Once you've fought your way to the Palace Gates, you'll need to take out a Droid Battle Tank. Run as quickly as possible and jump up to a doorway on your right. Kill the droid and take the health kit. Now stand on the ledge, but don't drop into the courtyard-this is the perfect position to kill the tank. Open up with ranged weapons and you can gleefully blow the crap out of it.
Then go right and jump forward to another ledge. Jump up to grab the ledge above and hoist yourself into a room. Push the lever to open the first gate. Go back to the stairs in front of the gate and you'll see a lever up and to your left. Jump onto the pillar and use your blaster to shoot the lever, opening the second gate. Enter to finish!
Level 5: Escape from Theed
You now must escape with the Queen. You can tell her to stay behind or follow you, but it's best to leave her behind to keep her safe. Unfortunately, she can be frustratingly stupid at pathfinding, so you may need to talk to her many times to get her to follow. On the upside, though, you can place thermal detonators under her dress and blow the hell out of everything in a thirty-meter radius, after which she'll get up and say "I'm only bruised." No wonder she's Queen.
The main obstacle to passing this level is the cubic buttload of battle-droids and a tank, which are guarding the courtyard (you'll come to it shortly after passing through the secret door). Before entering the courtyard, run and jump left, going around a corner and up some stairs. Enter the room and pick up the Naboo Fusion Coil and a water flask. You might want to save the Shield Pack for when you tackle the tank.
Thoroughly explore the area surrounding the courtyard (but stay out of it) to stock up on weapons (especially heavy weapons) and health. There are plenty of side paths, ledges, and rooms you can use to circumvent the courtyard until you're ready for it. Behind the tank is a button for the gate through which you need to exit. Once you hit the button, the tank will actively patrol the courtyard, and you'll need to destroy it to allow safe passage for the Queen.
Use the push-block to access these buttons
The best way to confront the tank (other than cheating) is to find the room with the R2 unit and go onto the ledge outside. Drop and run, hiding behind the planter in the courtyard. You can hide here indefinitely (the tank can't hit you). When the tank changes positions, roll out, shoot it (with whatever), then roll back to safety.
The area beyond the tank is guarded by droids, including destroyers. You'll need to fight your way through them, and be prepared for an ambush from both sides around the next corner. Now is a good time to use grenades and thermal detonators (don't blow the Queen upshe can only take so much, and the droids will target her).
The rest is routine droid-whacking. Talk to some rebels and escort the Queen to her ship. |
