Like the Red and Blue Versions, you can link your gameboy to another gameboy to battle or trade. And like the Yellow Version, you can link to a GameBoy printer to print out pictures from your pokedex. However, with Pokemon Gold and Silver you can also link up to an entirely different piece of equipment to the Gameboy Color's port, the new COLOR Pocket Pikachu. Pocket Pikachu is basically a color version of last year's pokemon pikachu, a step counting Tamagotchi like gadget that Nintendo released. As you take steps with your Pocket Pikachu, you earn Watts, which can be offered to pikachu in exchange for its affection.
But that's not all. After advancing some in gold and silver , a new option will appear on the starting menu, called "Mysterious Present." At this point, you can trade Watts in for rare and useful items by synchronzing your pikachu and game!
