Poem:
Pg 1. Title: If For Poets.
If you can state in clear and simple language, The things which other
people cannot say, Their fears, their hopes, their dreams and other emotions,
Which shape their and over them hold sway,
If you can picture real and lasting beauty,And treat upon the ugly things
as well, And if you in your serious creation The simple, undiluted truth can tell,
If you possess a healthy sense of humor, Which form the solemn face can
wipe the frown, And lift the heavy weight for just a moment Fromhim who
by his grief has been weighed down,
If you can utter thoughts so plainly, simply That all the common men can
understand, And yet imbellished with such perfect langauge That they seem
painted by an artist's hand,
If you believe that you declare to others, No matter whether they may
praise or blame,And do your best whatever you are writing, Then, poet,
you are worthy of the name.
