If you thought Pokemon Stadium was cool, wait until you get a load of the sequal, Pokemon Stadium GS. It's full of new features and tons of new pokemon. Some of the features are:
251 Pokemon
3D polygonal battle scenes with upgraded special effects
All-new gameplay modes, including new mini-games
Four-player battles
Compatible with Pokemon Red/Blue, Yellow, Gold/Silver and the upcoming Pokemon Crystal (Crystal is only available in Japan).
Data exchange vis Transfer Pak
Built-in EEPROM for storing Pokemon and items on cart
Factor 5 Voice Compression
This will be Japans 3rd Pokemon Stadium game and only Americas 2nd. Unlike the Americas 1st Pokemon Stadium (Pokemon Stadium 2 in Japan), players are no longer limited to the first 151 Pokemon. In case you haven't played the original, Pokemon Stadium enables owners of the Game Boy Pokemon games to upload their creatures to the N64 cartridge and use them in battle against other Pokemon players or the computer. While playing against human players is all about bragging rights, winning the different gameplay modes against the computer rewards players with rare Pokemon, like Eevee, Kabuto, or even the elusive Surfing Pikachu. These can be transferred back to the Game Boy games. Like the original, Pokemon Stadium GS will also come with a Transfer Pak, a Rumble Pak-like attachment with a Game Boy cartridge slot. Don't worry if you don't have any of the game boy games, you can still buy Pokemon Stadium GS and play it because it comes with Rental Pokemon just like the original did. The battle commands are executed basically the same way using the A, B and C Button. A brings you to the attack selection screen, where you pick from your Pokemon's four featured attacks by pressing on of the C Buttons. Pokemon Stadium also knows which Pokemon types are weak to other types. For example, a grass Pokemon is weak against a fire Pokemon, fire attacks are strong against ice creatures, etc. To go along with physical, hitpoint-depleting damage, some attacks can also cause lasting damage. For instance, lets say you poisoned a Pokemon using a poison attack, that Pokemon will stay poisoned and keep taking health points away from it until it faints. If you want to change your current battling Pokemon to another, you can press the B button to show you a list of the Pokemon you have with you, then you can change your current battling Pokemon with one on your bench. If you've played the original Pokemon Stadium, then you basically know what the graphics look like, but they will be improves some. However, there are a few new modes that shoudl capture the interest of Pokemon fans, such as the "My Room" feature. Players compete to collect items that are then stored in each Pokemon's three-dimensional room. There is also a slew new mini-games, including a Pokemon counting game and a Sprint-style overhead racing game starring Donphan. You can also expect a return of the standard modes, including four brand-new cups, a tweaked Free Battle mode, an extended Gym Leader CAtle and official Pokemon League tournaments. The fainting sequences are expecially impressive, as no two are the same. That's pretty impressive since there are 251 Pokemon. So overall, if you're looking for a fantastic game to buy, then I really recommend Pokemon Stadium GS. |
