Washington,DC concert 6/15/01

It was the most incredible experience of my life. These are the closest seats I've ever had at a BSB concert, row 17, center. Krystal was incredible as always, and surprisingly, Shaggy was actually pretty good. He did about 6 songs. The guys came on at around 9:00 Some of the highlights for me include:
-Kevin holding a bra
-Nick and Howie joking around a lot on stage. When they were all sitting down during "Time," they were hugging and rocking back and forth, LOL
-The "Old BSB" video clip. It was hysterical!
-Kevin's little shirt-lift when he was going down in the trunk.
-Meeting Lou, finally. Love ya, girl!
-Kevin ragging on Nick about the sea grass incident. LMAO
-Pelvic thrusts and crotch grabs.
-Nick talking to a little stuffed bug that was thrown on stage. When he was about to go down in the trunk, he kept saying "Should I go?" and having the stuffed bug answer him.
-Nick nearly being pelted with flying stuffed animals about 5 times, LMAO
-Somebody handed Kevin this gigantic paper rose, and he started playing around with it, holding it in his teeth like a tango dancer, and then leaning on it like a cane. Later, when they were all sitting down, Nick kept whacking Kevin in the head with it when his back was turned, and when Kevin turned around, he pretended he was talking to Howie, LOL.
-Nick to the fans: "We love you guys so freaking much!"
-The fact that the audience was so diverse. My friend and I had a 50 year-old couple next to us who came by themselves. I also noticed more guys in the audience. Take that, critics!
-Kevin in that tight blue wifebeater. I must have taken about 10 pics of him in that outfit.
Each and every song was so unbelievable, it's indescribable. The only downside was that they weren't able to use the bridge or the center stage, since we were in an outdoor arena, but the closeness of my seats made up for that. I was simply overwhelmed with the Backstreetness that was going on in that place. Everywhere I looked, there were smiles and laughter. It might be the happiest I've ever been. The energy and passion at that show just makes it more clear to me that no matter what they critics and haters throw at them, they will always shine through and prove them wrong. Lou, anything to add?

Review: Backstreet Boys fans loyal

Scoff at the boy-band craze if you will. Call it as yesterday as New Kids on
the Block and parachute pants.
Say you couldn't tell a Backstreet Boy from an 'N Sync-er if someone threatened to feed your toes to a Komodo dragon.
Just don't say it to the fans who attended Tuesday night's Backstreet Boys concert at the Bi-Lo Center.
The crowd, while smaller than at the Bi-Lo Center's two sold-out 'N Sync shows, was fiercely possessive and deeply protective of their five faves.
"I hate the term 'boy band'," said Lauren Williams, 14, of Greenville. "The Backstreet Boys write their own music. They deserve more respect than 'N Sync."
Rebekah Wilson, 20, of Asheville, wore her allegiance on her back: a homemade T-shirt reading "N Stink."
She views the Backstreet Boys as the originators and 'N Sync as the
Justin-come-latelys.
"The Backstreet Boys started on their own. They're not manufactured. They are about singing and talent ... and they don't hang out with Britney Spears," said Wilson, whose favorite Backstreet Boy is tattooed hipster A.J. McLean.
While the group may be all about the music in the eyes of their fans, Tuesday's show featured almost as much banter between the Boys and the audience as music. And of course, there was pyro a-plenty, as the Backstreet Boys' entrance was preceded by video of the cosmos and very real comets
exploding onto the stage.
The five guys arose on lifts below stage to soar above fans. Lowered to the stage, the singers performed a few robot-like dance moves, then leapt into "Everyone." It was a high-energy, thoroughly choreographed performance that nonetheless managed to feel a little less scripted-to-the-nanosecond than many pop concerts.
Throughout the two-hour performance, each member chatted with the audience, introducing songs or members of their backup band or talking about the charitable foundations each has established.
There were a couple of videotaped skits as well. One of them showed a group of geriatric Backstreet Boys, circa 2050, still talking about busting a move despite hip-replacement surgery. The other purported to take fans into the Boys' dressing area, where they bickered and fought over girls' phone numbers as they changed clothes.
Another segment sent the singers to a round platform near the back of the arena, where they performed a couple of songs before sauntering down a boardwalk back to the stage, waving and blowing kisses as they strode the catwalk.
The band gave fans plenty of their favorite songs, too, from a slowed-way-down "I Want It That Way" to an energetic, super-dance-charged "The Call" to a harmony-drenched, almost a cappella "As Long As You Love Me."
The latter song is the key to the Backstreet Boys' staying power. Judging from the intense waves of devotion the crowd was sending to the stage, there's time left on the clock.

ORLANDO, Florida: As the Backstreet Boys neared the end of their pyrotechnics-filled, not-quite-sold-out tour kickoff here Friday night, the group's A.J. McLean reached out to a fan way, way out.
As McLean slapped five with audience members over the gleaming edge of a catwalk in the middle of the TD Waterhouse Centre, he noticed one straining hand out of reach. The muscle-tee-clad singer dropped to the catwalk's floor and stretched most of his body over the side, coming close to a painful fall as he managed to grasp his fan's hand.
Despite the slick trappings of Friday's show hydraulic lifts, trap doors, indoor fireworks, nearly as many costume changes as songs at its heart it seemed all about such intimate moments, all about sealing the bond between fan and Backstreet Boy.
The group began the show with requisite Jackson-family-style bombast a video clip of asteroids speeding toward the earth led to real explosions onstage and the group's eventual emergence in long leather coats, with synthesized thunder accompanying every movement.
Shaking their hips to a pop and slap bass line in the kind of synchronized boy-band dance that they've avoided in their recent videos, BSB kicked into the fan-worshipping song "Everyone" from Black & Blue. The track's lyrics are tailor-made to open a concert: "Let's get on with the show/ Turn the lights down low/ You were there from the start/ We know who you are/ and this one goes out to you."
Shrieks from the crowd mounted as the group and its backing band which ably replicated and expanded the studio recordings of each song moved into the hit "Larger Than Life," which sports an identical fan-praising message. BSB spiced it up with karate kicks and red-faced vocal intensity from Nick Carter and Brian Littrell.
After a song that doesn't thank fans even once in its lyrics the cheating-woman track "Not for Me" the group stopped the music for an interlude in which each member got onstage alone and , yes, thanked the fans.
"I get to talk to you first I feel so blessed," said Littrell, who vied with Carter as the group's most scream-worthy member. "We wouldn't have anything if it wasn't for the Backstreet fans."
Carter, resembling an Abercrombie & Fitch model with his new burly physique, used his moment alone with the crowd to poke fun at the numerous pre-teens in attendance: "I like your skirt. Did you get that at the Gap? Or was it the Baby Gap?" To their credit, a good portion of the audience laughed.
From there, the Backstreet Boys who also include Howie Dorough and Kevin Richardson (who had his hair braided in tight cornrows) ran through their formidable battle chest of hits, from "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" to their latest chart-toppers, "The Call" and "More Than That."
Despite Carter and Littrell's favored status, the group's performance was meticulously democratic. All five voices Dorough's sweet-toned belting, McLean's nasal funk, Richardson and Littrell's smooth crooning, Carter's gospel fervor were featured in prominent solo spots.
Carter's only spotlight-hogging moments came on his infamous "am I sexual" line in "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)," which he milked more strenuously each time he repeated it. The crowd, needless to say, did not mind.
The group even took up actual instruments for a while, with McLean banging away at percussion instruments and Littrell and Carter briefly strumming or at least holding guitars.
There were several pre-taped skits, mostly timed to allow the group to change costumes or for the crew to prepare special effects. One particularly meandering bit set in the dressing room appeared to be meant only to run down the clock while the group got ready for the night's neatest trick popping up on a secondary stage in the back of the arena to sing "Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely."
The second stage was close enough to the fans that the group was probably able to see some of the arena's dozens of empty seats, but the guys didn't sweat it. Eight years after forming, the Backstreet Boys appeared comfortable with their status as the longest-lasting boy band or vocal group, as they prefer even if 'NSYNC are bigger right now.
And anyway, the group's days of making or reclaiming fans don't seem to be over. "I'm like 18 years old now and I thought I was growing out of it," said one convert, Orlando native Janet Moyer. "But we went and it was totally amazing. Now I'm obsessed again."

On February 4, 2001 me and my mom went to see the Backstreet Boys at the Nassau Coliseum in NY. This was my first BSB concert in more than 2 1/2 years and it was hard to believe I was finally going to see them again. We left the house at 1:00 b/c we wanted plenty of time to get there since we live in CT and we had never been to the coliseum before. And like I figured we would, we got lost. Everything was going fine until we missed the exit to get onto the Long Islan Expressway. After that we had no clue where we were going and pretty soon we found ourselves in Queens, NY. Don't ask me how. We would stop and ask people how to get to the LIE and no one could really help. We would go into those little stores in the gas stations that are run by Indians and none of them spoke a damn word of english. I felt like I was in a foreign country. So finally after driving around for like an hour, we found the right highway and got to Long Island in no time. So after that it was a quick easy ride until we got off the highway in Uniondale where the Coliseum is. We drove right by the Nassau Coliseum!! So once again we were lost for like another 45 minutes but the whole time we were right in the area. So finally we found it and I was so happy! It was about 4:30 then. So we parked and got out of the car. There were some girls standing around, not many though. There was like this ramp that went down under the building into like a parking garage. So every few minutes a black van would go by and all the girls would start screaming like the boys were in them. I mean did I miss something here or what. Since when do the guys travel in vans? Well anywayz it was so freezing cold out so me and my mom got back in the car until about 5:50. Then we got out and waited in line for them to open the doors. They finally did at 6:30 so we went in and found our seats which were a lot better than I thought they would be. I was in section 210 which is a little high up and at the opposite end that the stage is on. So I thought I would be like really far away but surprisingly, I wasnt. And I wasnt on an angle or anything, I was looking right at the stage in the middle. So it was good and they werent that high either. At around 7:15 a guy from Z100 came out and introduced the opening act, Krystal. She is signed to the Backstreet Boys record label that they started called The Label. She did 4 songs. They were "My Religion", "Super Girl", "Angel" (I think!), and "I'll Be There" which I think is an old Mariah Carey song cuz it sounded familiar. She was pretty good, she plays the piano and she's different than your average teen girl singer. She was done before 8:00 I think so we had quite awhile to wait for the boys. They came out at about 8:45. They made quite an entrance! There was like this whole Armagedon theme. There was like big explosions cuz it was supposed to look like meteorites were hitting the earth or something. I dunno im not good at science. But anywayz they finally appeared and I was like oh my god I am here. I just couldnt believe it. They started with "Everyone" and then went into "Larger Than Life". Then they did "Shining Star". They really got the crowd going with those three songs. Their dancing was off the hook, I dont care what people say, they dance their asses off and they do a damn good job. During "Shining Star" Kevin disappeared and I was like omg where'd he go, is he hurt?! But then he came back out when the song was over and talked for a minute then they slowed things down and did "What Makes You Different Makes You Beautiful", then I think they did "Yes I Will" during which they danced with there shimmery canes. After that came "More Than That" which is one of my most favorite songs from them ever and I almost started crying b/c it was so beautiful live. Then came "I Want It That Way" and "Not For Me". Ya know, I didnt like "Not For Me" before but after hearing it live, I love it!!! It sounded so good and their dancing for that song was awesome!!! Then they did "Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely". After that they did the little skit where they decide they wanna change their costumes so they all get in the box and then they video comes on of them backstage in their dressing room. It was so funny, they were being so silly I was cracking up. Then omg omg omg they appeared on the end stage which was about 30 feet away from where I was sitting! And it was right in front of me so I had a perfect view!!! I have never been that close to them so sorry im like flipping out. They did "I'll Never Break Your Heart", "I Promise You", and "How Did I Fall In Love With You" all on that stage. Kevin was the one that mostly faced where I was sitting b/c it was a round stage. AJ and Howie faced me a lot too but Brian and Nick kinda had their back to my section a lot. Kevin kept waving though and I think Brian came over and waved too! I only got to take like 9 pictures of them there though b/c then my film ran out. So during "Time" which was next I was putting new film in so I didnt really get to watch it but the catwalk came down from the ceiling and they walked across it to get back to the main stage. Next they did "The Answer to Our Lifes", "All I Have to Give", "If You Stay", "Everybody", and "Get Another Boyfriend". Somewhere in there Kevin made an announcement about all the charities the guys have. Then AJ came out and said that they were about to do the last song which was "The Call". Then they said goodbye and yada yada but we knew they still had to do "Shape of My Heart". So about 5 minutes later they came back and did it and then that was it! It went by so fast and I didnt wanna leave!! They put on such an amazing show. I feel bad for people who didnt get tickets to this tour b/c you are really missing out on something incredible. Just everything about the show rocked. It was by far the best concert I have ever been to and well worth the $75 per ticket. The special affects were awesome and the guys looked hotter than ever. Aj just shaved off his goatee a few days ago and a lot of people dont like the way he looks but I do. He had his hair in corn rows which looked really good. Howie looked better than ever too. They all did. I was really likin Nicky's sexual dancing. I could just keep going on and on. Theres songs on B&B and didnt care for b4 but after hearing them live, I love them. You havent heard B&B til you heard it live!!! Their show has come such a long way since I saw them back in 1998. Now I have their stadium tour to look forward to! Anywayz the show was over at 10:30 so that wasnt too bad and we had no trouble getting out of the parking lot on to the highway. We got a little lost cuz it was hard to see in the dark and there were times when we thought we were going the wrong way but we finally saw a sign that said Connecticut Welcomes You and we were so happy lol. We got home a little before 12:30. So even though it was a bitch getting there and back, the concert made up for it and I would do it all over again if I could

2/5/01 concert
The concert ended up starting late because they decided to be nice and wait for all the damn slow people who took a long time to get there because of the snow. I was there at 7:10 (earlier than the other 2 nights LOL)
The concert was even better than the other too nights. I was really into it, especially because it was my last one. They were all into it too, especially Nick. Damn that boy was getting freaky LOL. The highlight of the show was when I snuck to the backstage again and Nick was on my side this time. He is SUCH a flirt it's not even funny. Ok well it is. lmao. He was right in front of me when he sat down on the edge of the little stage. LMAO @ me pushing the security guy to go see him and Nick like waved his hand like its ok, leave her LMAO. So he sat there and mouthed the words while Brian was singing I Promise You, it was so funny, During "it seems like everyone we know is breaking up" He mouthed the words and pointed to himself and me during everyone we know, and then during breaking up he put his hands together, said breaking up and he pulled his hands apart. He was so flirty and adorable I said awwww and then he winked LOL. He is turning into Howie LMAO But he just sat there and was winking and singing. He is so freaking dramatic, and he reminded me of someone I knew but I cant put my finger on it. He wasnt acting like silly Nick when he was sitting there he was acting like a man, it was actually kind of scary. Sure some of his looks reminded me of when he was younger but he's changed and it was kind of weird, but I guess it's all part of him growing up *sniff sniff*
Another funny part was when Aj was saying that there was only one song left (before the call) and I screaming out AJ, YOU'RE LYINGGGGGG!!!! And he heard me LOL. He gave me a look like shhh dont give it away lol. It was cute.
But Nick looked especially good, he had his hair spiked up most of the time. I thought they all looked good, Aj still looks funky to me.
But damn! The dancing was insane, Nick got so into it. He was shaking the Jb and grabbing Thor ALL the time. Forget about Bri, Aj, Kev, Howie and Nick, this was the JB and THOR show LMAO. j/k I screamed for all the guys. It's gonna be weird not seeing them tonight after I saw them 3 times in a row.
