Hearts Over Heels
(a 7 part story about learning to love, learning to trust, finding out who you really are and learning to love again.)

PART 1: BEGINNINGS

"HEADS UP!" shrieked Alexia McCoy as she came whizzing towards the bus stop bench. The three old people, two women and a man, slowly looked at her a little startled. With a wild grin she picked up one foot put it on the bench and lauched herself over their heads in a truly spectacular skater move. She came down hard, but gracefully on the other side in a one knee landing and skated on.
Thats how it was almost every day, well not jumping over people, but skating. Skating was everything to 22 year old Alexia. Shed been doing it since she was five, her first pair of skates a birthday present she fell in love with. Her job at the local performing arts theater allowed alot of time for it too. She only had to work a few nights a week, but the pay was good and the job was fun. But now it was a warm saturday morning and she was on her way to the local park, complete with basketball courts tennis courts and even a pool.... well it wasnt really a pool. It was empty, and a skaters dream. It was huge with slopes galore and even some add ons the local kids put in. It wasn't full because the firevale town hall had given up on refilling it time after time when people pulled the drain so they could skate in it. But now it was all theirs and Alexia was on her way to meet her friends Jenna, Mackenzy, Leya and Kiyla.She glided through the gates of the park and over to where the pool was.

"Hey Alex" called Mackenzy, the first to see her.

"sup?" she called back.

She hopped down into the pool and skated over to her friends, and began to chat with them.

"you totally missed it, our own Leya Oneil aced a 540..." said Kiyla. Leya began to blush as the other girls cheered.

"Its wasnt that great.. i messed up the landing....."

"It was fine. not perfect but your going to nail it today." said Jenna.

"thats great Leya," said Alex, "but enough talking. lets skate." She took off for the far end of the pool and came back again going up one slope to the side doing a neat handstand into a flip over the side and raced by the others.

"Lets go" said Mackenzy taking off and following Alex's action. Soon all five girls were tearing around the pool and having a great time. More people came and joined them, watching or skating just like every other Saturaday. And usually a typical saturday would be followed by a typical Sunday.. but this weekend 10 lives were going to be spun around in whirlpool of emotion.

AJ slowly opened his eyes to sun streaming across his face. "what the hell..." he mumbled to himself. He always kept the hotel shades closed. He didnt like waking up damn near blinded. He rubbed his eyes and sat up in bed. Looking around he was confused for a few moments. "duh" he said to himself. He wasn't in a hotel room. He was in a tiny bedroom in a bed and breakfast on the outskirts of nowheresville. Or was the name of place firetown or firefly or something.... He couldn't remember, all he could remember was being here because of Howie's dumb idea.

"come on guys. we need to bond over our time off... its only two weeks. just stay in a quiet little place and get to be better friends like old times...." he had said.

It was true they did need to rebond. The touring had taken its toll and the guys were a mess, always snapping at eachother and being generally in a funk. They all agreed to it and now here they were in Firevale..

AJ hopped out of bed in his boxers and a wife beater and peeked out into the hall, it was early he didnt really expect anyone else to be up. He heard the blaring of cartoons downstairs and a laugh. It could only be Nick.

"God he still watches cartoons...." AJ said to himself with a smile.

"morning," AJ turned to face Kevin as he came out of his room into the hall.

"hey man.." He followed Kevin down the stairs and went straight for the kitchen. He was hungry and wanted some food. Brian and Nick were down there, Brian writing something on a pad of paper and Nick watching Tom and Jerry with the volume blasting eating frosted flakes.

"portrait of a real american boy." Kevin said glancing at Nick.

"shut up." He said automatically.

"look at this were all down here but Howie, whos idea this was, isnt...." Kevin said walking into the kitchen.

"Thats D for you.." AJ said. He pulled out some milk and grabbed the cereal off the kitchen table, he wasnt in the mood for cooking. He poured himself a bowl and walked into the living room, sat on the couch and looked at the other guys.

"so what are we gonna do today?" he asked.

"Me and b-rok wanna play some basketball." said Nick

"mmmmhm" replied Brian, head bent over the pad of paper and pen. He was in a poetry mood writing a new song.

Kevin walked into the room. "there's a park down the road.. I saw it when we were driving up here."

The guys agreed on some b-ball for the morning and after dragging Howie out of bed, they got dressed and headed down the road. They scored an empty basket ball court and were soon involved in a pickup game. The game lasted awhile and later Brian and Howie split off to play tennis and AJ decided to take a walk. He passed by a pretty big crowd, wondering what was going on. After awhile he pushed his way to the front and watched as some amazing skaters raced around the bottom of a pool. A few of them caught his eye, they were girls for one thing, and they were good. One in particular caught his eye. She was dressed in baggy tan pants and a blue tank top, her long black ponytail whipping around when she spun on her blades. She was obviously friends with the other girls, calling out pointers and giving high fives. At one point she came right up to the side where he stood, flashing him a killer smile. He watched for quite a long time until the crowd started to wander away, it was already afternoon and he wondered w

"Alexia darling are you going to hog the popcorn for the whole movie or just the first part?" Mackenzy asked from her spot on the floor.

"Just the first part" Alexia retorted. They were all sitting around Jenna's living room, settling down to watch a movie.

"Did you see thoes five guys at the park? Where are they from?" Kiyla asked the others, "they were pretty darn cute.."

"Yeah especially that tall blonde...." said Leya.

Alexia remained quiet thinking about the newcomers, she felt something strange about them. They were going to bring something good to Firevale for her and her friends, she felt that. But she also felt that alot of heartache was on the way.... They began to watch the movie but each was off in their own little worlds.

the next morning....

"woah..... oh god this isnt cool.." AJ was slowly making his way down the steep hill to the park on a pair of blades hed gotten at a nearby mall the night before. Hell if you wanna talk to em join em.. Hed thought to himself. So he picked up some blades and a set of pads and a helmet. Now he was regretting it. He finally, unscathed, made his way to the park and clutched the chain-link fence.

"okay... so far so good... im here. im alive....." Now all he had to do was get into the park and over to the pool. He started to step through the gate and his blade went over a rock. He slipped, tried to regain his balance but tumbled to the ground, landing hard on his ass. "damn it!"

"Look out!!!"

Before he could turn his head he felt a swish of air go straight over his head, five actually. He looked over intime to see thoes girls land on the other side of him and continue on towards the pool. Only one, the one who had smiled at him yesterday, skated back over to him.

"uhm just to let you know, sitting right in the entrance to the park is not the best idea in the world..." she said looking down at him.

"I know... your likely to get run over by some pretty girls." he replied with a smile.

She smiled and offered him her hand to help him up.

"Im alexia..."

"and im alex." he said taking her hand and getting himself off the ground. "nice to meet you."

"Pleasures all mine." she looked over her shoulder and seeing her friends already racing around she was anxious to join them. "well c-ya..." She turned and headed for the pool but what was really on her mind was the fabulous stranger she had just met. Slowly but surley AJ followed her until he was at the edge of the pool. Carefully he sat down trying to look cool and confident. He got an uneasy feeling when he saw the five girls talking in a group towards the other end.

"Thats one of the guys from yesterday.... he skates... thats awsome!..." Mackenzy whispered to the others.

"maybe the rest of them do too...." said Leya whistfully. She was such a pushover for a cute guy with a nice personality, and if he skated, she was happy.

"and guys... Im the queen of england.."

"What are you talking about?" asked Kiyla.

"Okay that guy is such a poser. I mean come on we all saw him fall right on his butt." Alexia snickered.

"Ugh your so mean Alexia.. He obviously likes the idea of skating.. maybe we should help him.."

"Mack... he wants to meet chicks." Alexia replied. But a shiver went through her thinking of how much she liked the idea of the guy liking one of them, especially her.

"And thats so wrong? I'm going to help him." Mackenzy said skating off. She went over to him and sat next to him on the edge of the pool, not one to be shy she started talking.

"Hi my name is Mackenzy Greens.. You look like you could use some help on thoes skates. If you want some pointers feel free to ask me or any of the other girls.. Thats Leya Oneil, Kiyla Chastens, Jenna Andrews and Alexia McCoy.." She smiled at the slightly bewildered stranger.

"Uhm I'm Alex.." He stammered, "I guess I could use some help...."

Mackenzy laughed a little, grabbing his hand she pulled him off the edge and down into the pool. "It's really not that hard... you just can't be afraid to take risks..."

AJ nodded a little and did his best to skate over to the others without looking like a klutz. When he got over he "accidentally" bumped into Alexia. "sorry my fault..." he said, sounding truly apologetic.

"It's okay.."

"Where are your cute friends?"
"What are their names?"
"Are they coming here later?"

Jenna, Leya and Kiyla looked like expectant puppies waiting for his answers.

"well these girls arent very shy are they?" He thought to himself. "Well theyre at the bed and breakfast were staying at for a while, Nick is the blonde one, Kevins the tall dark and handsome guy, Howie's the short one and Brian is the square jawed one.." He smiled at his own little descriptions of his friends. "and they might come here later for a bball game.."

"Nick..." Leya looked whistful.

The rest of the girls laughed, Leya was definetly into that guy, which was good, she never had much luck finding guys she was attracted to. Not that she was snobbish, she was very cautious.

"Can we skate now?" Alexia whined, she never did have patience for guys, love, or any of that mush. She hated it in fact. Guys were trouble, always had been always will be and why should this oh-so-cute and sexy guy be any different?

Kiyla gave her a disgusted look. She knew alexia wasn't interested when she obviously should be. "fine lets skate."

The girls took off whizzing around AJ tried to join them, After awhile he got the hang of the gentle slopes and was getting pretty fast. Meanwhile the rest of the boys had awoken and were headed for the park basket ball in tow. Once in the park they happened to walk by the pool. They were suprised when they found not all five of the girls they had seen before but AJ.

"GO AJ! Get Your Mack On!" Nick yelled to him.

" I hate you nick!" he yelled back

Leya skated over and up on the side where the guys were, but being taken aback at the sight of Nick she stumbled and almost plunged back down into the pool. Luckily Nick reached out and grabbed her arm.

"Hey there.. be careful." He smiled at her.

"thanks..." Said Leya, blushing.

"I'm Nick..." He couldnt think of much else to say, he was busy looking into her clear blue eyes, eyes that matched his perfectly.

"I.. I...I'm uhm.... " Leya stammered

"Leya Oneil, and Im Mackenzy." Mackenzy had suddenly appeared beside Leya. "Mackenzy Greens but you can call me Mack." She smiled up charmingly at Kevin, who, even in her blades was easily a foot taller than she was. He smiled back a bit shyly.

Jenna and Kiyla climbed up out of the pool, intoduing themselves.

"Hi Im Jenna Andrews," doing a quick spin on her blades and bowing she finished, "pleased to meet you.."

"Show off. I'm Kiyla Chastens.. and im completly breathtaken.." She smiled playfully at them.

"Well Im Kev..." he started to drawl.

"Kevin, and Howie, and Nick and Brian." Mackenzy finished.

As the eight began to chat only two were left, unnoticed for the moment still down in the pool. Alexia seemed off in her own world, as she was skating past AJ and almost collided with him.

"woah..!" he started to flail his arms for balcance and just as he was about to topple over he felt a pair of arms go around his waist.

"you really need to work on balance" Alexia said as she helped him get upright.

"Thanks.." he said, flashing her a greatful smile.

"Yeah.." she was a bit speechless at the moment, that smile was amazing...

"so do you spend all your free time skating?"

She nodded, still at a loss for words. This is stupid, she thought, He's just a guy.

"Well thats cool I guess, but.. what are you doing tonight?"

"How late tonight?" she asked remembering her theatre rehersals.

"Seven?"

"Can't"

"Seven thirty?"

"Nope"

"Eight?"

"Eh.."

"Eight Thirty."

"why are you asking?"

"because I want to take you out..."

Alexia fell silent. It had been a year since any guy had asked her on a date. Everyone knew about Chris, they all knew about what happened between them. And how she hadnt trusted any guy since then.

"uhm.." She turned, and found the sixteen eyes of her friends and his friends boring holes into them. She felt very intimidated.

"Well?" He lowered his shades an inch or two and looked at her with his gorgeous eyes.

"Why not.." she said quietly. One date wont hurt she thought to herself, I hope not..

"Great!" AJ replied, ecstatic she had said yes.

"Yeah..." she slowly skated backwards away from him.

He stood there smiling, not noticing her awkward reaction. But her friends did. Leya spoke up.

"why dont we do a group thing." "late dinner and a movie..."

"sounds good." said Mack, catching on quick.

Alexia looked up and realizing the others must have been asked out too she was glad her friends were quick to agree to Leyas idea. "sure.." she said.

So it was set. At Eight thirty they were to meet at the cineplex at fire valemall. The guys had explained they needed to go right in and couldnt wait outside, they didnt want to be noticed. The girls didn't mind.

"Do we have to see something scary?" Leya complained as they walked to the mall.

"Hey it was Nick's idea," said Kiyla "He probably hopes that you'll get scared enough to have to jump in his lap."

Leya Blushed and fervently adjusted hes long black casual skirt and blue tank top.

"Oh chill Leya," Jenna said, "we're only kidding."

She, Mackenzy and Kiyla looks as if theyed planned their outfits together, all in black pants and different fox jersey's. Alexia trailed behind them looking as if she was walking the green mile. She had wanted to come in her favorite baggy pants and a t-shirt but her friends had decided otherwise. They arrived at her house early and spirited her from the shower to her room and turned her into a beauty queen. She was dressed in a pair of hip huggers and a royal blue halter top, her hair was down and curled a bit, instead of her usual straight pony tail, she was even wearing makeup. She shuddered and looked around, fearing she would get disapproving looks from guys on the street.

They reached the movies and got in line only to find that the guys had bought their tickets and were waiting for them in theatre two. They walked into the theater which was unusually empty for a Sunday night. Little did they know the guys had rented out the entire theatre just for them.

"Hey girls," said Howie, walking over and slipping an arm around Kiyla, "don't you look lovely."

"Thanks" said Kiyla, smiling.

AJ swooped in on Alexia, "you look gorgeous...." he said, and meant it.

"You dont look to bad yourself." In fact, she thought, you look completly and utterly fantastic.

Everyone stood around chatting, hitting it off quite well. They were settling into seats when Mackenzy felt something hit her from behind.

"Hey!" She turned around only to find Nick, a box of snow caps, and a giggling Leya.

"Sorry," said Nick, "I was aiming for kev.."

"Oh real mature Nick.." said Kevin without turning around.

"It is." He clocked him in the back of the head with a few more candies and Leya was quick to help him.

"Oh that is it." kevin turned around and began to pelt them with Skittles as Mac gladly helped him.

"Ouch! Hey...." Kiyla exclaimed, getting hit with a stray skittle. She grabbed a fistful of popcorn and returned the throw.

Brian and Jenna cleverly hid, hunching down in the seats, ocassionally letting a gummi bear or two fly.

"Hey Alexia! Catch!" Kiyla flung a sticky-wadded up air head at her.

"Ew!" Alexia ducked, just in time for the airhead to hit AJ in the fore head.

The fight was really on. They were hopping seats, flinging candy and popcorn at eachother, and laughing uncontrolably. Alexia was climbing over a seat to avoid Leyas fistful of milk duds when she slipped and started to fall. AJ rushed foward and caught her just as she was about to hit the floor.

"Are you okay?" He asked.

"Yeah.. yeah I'm fine.. thanks..."

"No problem" he said smiling a little at her.

After that, the lights finally dimmed, and they settled back in the candy strewn seats. Nick was helping leya pick sticky junior mints off her skirt, Kev and Mackenzy were helping eachother get popcorn out of their hair. Jenna and Brian were brushing sugar off their shirts and Kiyla was helping Howie get the Milk duds out of the back of his shirt. AJ and Alexia sat quietly watching the movie both thinking about AJ's catch. They had both felt something there but Alexia just couldnt admit it to herself. They watched the movie quietly for 2 hours, a brand new thriller called the Last Vampire and their attention was on the screen throughout it.

After the movie they headed out to dinner at one of the few trendy places in Firevale called Liquid Blue, they had a pretty calm dinner, chatting away and everyone getting to know eachother better. After dinner they split up and the guys began to walk the girls home. That would be merely the end of their first dates. but the very beginning of some very serious, and special relationships.
