The sun is our best example although we can say our Earth (just as other planets do) has a moon revolving around it also. The Sun is so large in our Solar System it does not move it mearly shift its position back and forth (like how our eye moves around in the socket or how a compass moves only slightly). Doppler Shift is detected when we see blue and red flickering light through our telescope. As the star wobbles toward the telescope it flickers a blue light, as the star wobbles away it flickers a red light. This evidence may one day help us find new planets in our Universe (possible new life forms). Today we cannot view the planets around their sun because the light created by the Doppler Shift blocks our view and all you can see is the center body. Their is a specially designed telescope called an Interferometer (four telescopes that focus the image into one) that can block out the Doppler Shift light so we can see the planets around the center body. Funding for an Interferometer telescope seems to be the problem. We have spent quite a bit of money develping the Space Shuttle (A 3 stage vehicle) and the hubble telescope only to find we need to change the design and/or the game plan. This has upset those who were convinced that their money would be spent to yeild definite results. Little did they know what the unknown would unyeild. An Interferometer Telescope will not be able to be constructed until the year 2020 at the current rate. If we had a good interferometer telescope now we could be well on our way to finding new life and/or planets in other solar systems. There are light years of space that man hasn't even attemted to discover. |
